When are you putting your tree up?

We are away for two weeks over Xmas- from 20/12.

Last year we didn't bother with tree etc but I want to this year.

When is too early to put it up and decorate? Keen to max out our benefit and enjoyment of the tree relative to effort!

I don’t think there’s a right answer to that tbh.

We generally decorate the first weekend in December. When we’ve gone away for Christmas I’ve done it right at the start of the month regardless of the day of the week.

When would you like to do it? When do you have time to do it?
I’d probably aim for very end of November/start of December.

November 27th for the past couple of years because of a poster on here as a remembrance.

Gettingbysomehow · 03/11/2025 10:18

Never I have no room for a tree anywhere unless I start moving furniture about. Occasionally I have a small table top one but now the DS has left home I can't be bothered.

ShodAndShadySenators · 03/11/2025 12:16

If we were going away for Christmas but still wanted to enjoy the tree during advent, I'd put it up in the last week of November. There's a lot of work in our tree so I'd want it to be worthwhile.

But really, you put yours up when it suits you, you don't have to answer to anyone about it so might as well?

Abra1t · 03/11/2025 12:36

Not for at least six weeks.

Next couple of weeks here! Love Christmas , most magical time of the year 🎄🎄🎄

Mydogisagentleman · 03/11/2025 12:38

24th December. Down 26th

Glitterballofdreams · 03/11/2025 12:39

The last weekend of Nov. The kids are already asking 😂

harryhole · 03/11/2025 15:42

@Summmeeerrrrisherenearly030933939 thanks. You've made my day 😆

@Mydogisagentleman it'll take us half a day to get the tree up and decorated so really not worth putting it up and taking it down 48 hours later!!!!!

Up on 20 December down on 6 January

FastTurtle · 03/11/2025 16:06

6th December.

AnonKat · 03/11/2025 16:08

Normally the first friday in December. But im due the start of December, so im thinking the 15th Nov this year.

HollyhockDays · 03/11/2025 16:15

Second weekend in December I’d prefer a bit later. Comes down on New Year’s Day.

I cannot get on board with them going up in November.

ErlingHaalandsManBun · 03/11/2025 16:18

Ours has always gone up the first weekend in December.

Kids have now grown up and left home but I will still decorate the house when I usually do. For me I love the run up to Christmas more than the actual day. The weeks proceeding are full of Christmas TV specials, Christmas movies, planning, stocking up, reading Christmas books, pouring over the Xmas Radio Times, Christmas songs and that lovely feeling of contentment that the big day is approaching that I always feel. Everything makes me smile and my decorated house makes me feel happy. Feeling 'christmassy' is lovely 😄

I almost feel a bit sad once we reach the day as I know that my Christmas decorations will soon start to annoy me instead and I won't be able to wait to get them down again. The magic is gone. Before we know it everyone will be back at work/uni and the bleak shit show that is January is almost upon us. Nothing to look forward to other than cold, dark, shit weather and being slightly broke and feeling a bit fat and frumpy 😅

SisSuffragette · 03/11/2025 16:34

Last weekend in November, as it's right at the end this year. Otherwise we'd wait until the first weekend in December

CuriousKangaroo · 03/11/2025 16:37

We do the first week of December. TBH that is probably still too early for our tastes, but it builds excitement for DC so we do it anyway.

weareallqueens · 03/11/2025 16:40

Probably the 12/13th. I’d do it the week before but DH will probably put his grinchy food down. 😆 Stays up till around the 5th though.

Lavenderandbrown · 03/11/2025 16:48

This year up weekend of November 21 and down weekend of Jan 3 It varies a bit year to year but I too prefer the time approaching christmas day. I love coming home from work and turning on the tree. Also my young adult dc will be at home from the 19th and I want all decorating done by then so house is festive but also so I can mentally move onto food preparations. I think late November is becoming more and more popular

OllysArmyRidesAgain · 03/11/2025 16:50

Never before the beginning of Dec as that is DD's birthday (even if she is now an adult and not living with us). This year I will aim for 5/6/7 weekend, but can see it slipping a week. Tree will be down by New Year's Eve as I like to wake up on NYD with a tidy house ready for me to stick to my resolutions.

On the 2 years we have been properly away for Christmas and not back until well into the NY I have not put up a tree, just a few decorations, that are quick to put away as soon as we get back.

EllaPaella · 03/11/2025 17:00

We usually do ours the first weekend of December. I love having the decorations up but November is too early for me.

Openmouthinsertfood · 03/11/2025 17:59

I've had mine up a few weeks already. 🎅

BrendaSmall · 03/11/2025 18:02

Middle of November after our daughters birthday
Always take it down 27/28th December before husband goes back to work

isthesolution · 03/11/2025 18:11

End of Nov

Peridot1 · 03/11/2025 18:16

Early December. I can’t do November although I think we started the process at the end of November last year.

I’m going to keep ours more simple than normal this year as we are away from the 27 Dec to 6 Jan. I normally go totally overboard.

Blackbookofsmiles1 · 03/11/2025 18:20

Middle of November, down around 3rd January
