When are you putting your tree up?

We are away for two weeks over Xmas- from 20/12.

Last year we didn't bother with tree etc but I want to this year.

When is too early to put it up and decorate? Keen to max out our benefit and enjoyment of the tree relative to effort!

December. I don't mind how early in December but it has to be December. It's usually around the 5th.

WineBeforeWhine · 03/11/2025 18:37

Ours goes up the weekend before Christmas. Any earlier and it’s too soon.

TeddySchnauzer · 03/11/2025 18:43

I’ve never understood putting it up early. Defeats the object of the Christmas period, surely?

Fishingboatbobbingnight · 03/11/2025 18:45

Our has always gone up the evening school broke up for Christmas.. as a celebration that Christmas had begun.. still keep to that even though they are in their 20/30s… they come home that weekend and we still decorate together..and go to a carol service on the Sunday xx

TeddySchnauzer · 03/11/2025 18:46

Historically and traditionally, it was always put up on the night time of Christmas Eve and down on 6th January - ya know, for the actual 12 days of Christmas. These days it seems to be a race to get it up as soon as summer ends and then to be the first to take it down on Boxing Day?!?!

DogInATent · 03/11/2025 18:48

Weekend before xmas, or maybe the weekend before that.

Wigtopia · 03/11/2025 18:49

Some years it’s not possible but aim for 1st December and book it off work if it falls on a weekday if we can!

MsMillyMollyMandy · 03/11/2025 18:50

Ideally up the weekend before Christmas and down on January 6th

GRCP · 03/11/2025 18:55

Last weekend in November for us this year!

SwirlyShirly · 03/11/2025 18:59

Last Sunday of November in our house

SouthLondonMum22 · 03/11/2025 19:01

Mine went up on Saturday!

mrscotton · 03/11/2025 19:08

29th Nov but only because my husbands birthday is the 30th & its my nephews birthday the first weekend in December so we are going out to a local national trust place to look at their christmas lights. Our little boy (3) is already asking when Santa is coming.

CharlotteCChapel · 03/11/2025 19:15

Well probably do the tree when we come back from seeing family pre Christmas. So mid Dec, the rest of the decorations normall start coming out on the 1st.

MightyGoldBear · 03/11/2025 19:28

Last weekend of November for us this year. It can take us a while to get them all up.
Anything to make the gloomy dark nights more bearable.

ITSSSSCHRISTMASSS · 03/11/2025 19:37

Putting the tree up and decorating is spread over a couple of weeks, I have health issues so do it bit by bit. The boxs will come out in the next few weeks to acclimatise and I will start on a good day, usually towards last week in November to first week in December.

Wompet · 03/11/2025 19:44

November 22nd this year. The first day of Christmas is always the Strictly Blackpool special!

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 03/11/2025 19:48

December 24th. Same as every year.

Swissmeringue · 03/11/2025 19:52

Second weekend of December. We have a real tree and I want it to still look good by Christmas.
I LOVE Christmas and go all out on the decorations but, to me, it's special because it's short, so I wouldn't want to go too early. If we were away over Christmas I might consider decorating first weekend in December rather than the second.

Ours has always gone up the first weekend in December.

Kids have now grown up and left home but I will still decorate the house when I usually do. For me I love the run up to Christmas more than the actual day. The weeks proceeding are full of Christmas TV specials, Christmas movies, planning, stocking up, reading Christmas books, pouring over the Xmas Radio Times, Christmas songs and that lovely feeling of contentment that the big day is approaching that I always feel. Everything makes me smile and my decorated house makes me feel happy. Feeling 'christmassy' is lovely 😄

I almost feel a bit sad once we reach the day as I know that my Christmas decorations will soon start to annoy me instead and I won't be able to wait to get them down again. The magic is gone. Before we know it everyone will be back at work/uni and the bleak shit show that is January is almost upon us. Nothing to look forward to other than cold, dark, shit weather and being slightly broke and feeling a bit fat and frumpy 😅

This is me to a tee, although we put ours up the last Sunday in November.

MaloryJones · 03/11/2025 20:29

1st December

Cardiaga · 03/11/2025 20:43

This year it's going up first weekend in December, coming down 1st January. I need my Christmas cozy this year !

elviswhorley · 03/11/2025 20:43

It goes up 1st November for us. It's beautiful in the corner and we're all chilling in the lounge right now with it with its lovely lights on. Bought some new decorations today and my oldest put them up. It feels like a really lovely family time for us and it's our new baby's first Christmas. I take it down on NYE.

no one can stop me. Whatever. I do what I want!

FairViewRosie25 · 03/11/2025 20:51

I really really want to put it up this week as my god daughter & fiancé are coming at the weekend before going to Oz for 3 months. However DH says no. Should I beat him till he gets it out of the loft.

but the object of the xmas period is having the tree up

Never I have no room for a tree anywhere unless I start moving furniture about. Occasionally I have a small table top one but now the DS has left home I can't be bothered.
