What are you getting your 8/9yo girls?

What are you getting/what have they asked for?

I know that DD is definitely going to ask for Labubus, Sticki Rolls, Horrid Henry books and Robux. I think that she might ask for a switch but unsure on that right now.

Following for an 8.5 year old granddaughter.
What is a Roblox?
Where do you buy a genuine Labubu?
Why are kids obsessed with lip balms?
What should I buy from Sephora for 8.5 year old? Sol de Janeiro?
Advice please? Help?

Roblox is an online game. It has a bad reputation but can be locked down and monitored. Most kids around this age are obsessed with it. You can buy Robux ( gaming money) to buy things for the games.

Lip balms I think are the precursor to other cosmetics, I don’t see it any different to me sneaking my mums lippy when I was little.

Sephora- Massive American cosmetics shop, all the rage with teens, tweens and most women into beauty products. My 8yo got bored in it when we took her older sisters, she got herself a lip liner just to buy something, but I do know 8yos obsessed with many of the beauty products. The products I’d be happy to buy my 8yo can be bought in boots. If my 8yo wanted something specific from Sephora and you don’t live near one I’d buy something from boots that is also sold in Sephora and then buy a 2nd hand Sephora bag from vinted so she thinks it’s from Sephora.

Sol de Janiro - is popular but can be bought in lots of places. To me it’s an overpriced body spray and products, but it’s not stopped me buying it for my DDs as they love it.

Genuine Labubu I think can only be bought from Popmart.

This is what I’ve got my 8yo:

Dressing gown & slippers
Bike
Penguin polly pocket
Penguin book
Stitch Lego
Buddy the Elf eye shadows
W7 perfumes
Cup hottie
Stitch duck
Stitch stamps
Penguin necklace
penguin cushion cover
Tub of makeup sponges
P Louise - blush and lip gloss
Sketch books & Colouring pencils
Diary
Cotton pad and bud holder
Eye shadow brushes
Mini makeup bags
Spoolies
Spray bottles
Hair care shampoos & towel wrap
Tiger from k pop demon hunters
Mix of beauty/cosmetics - under eye gel patches, hair brush, lip balms

I’ve Preordered and hoping will arrive before Christmas Zoe from K Pop demon Hunters Funko Pop

On order - reindeer from 99 nights in the forest, fake juicy couture tracksuit from shein and hair accessories.

DD likes to try and be like her older sisters but has eczema so I don’t let her buy skincare and use many cosmetics. She has a “routine” so she can be like them and her friends but it’s all dermatological skincare

Slime, more multiple tubs of slime in all varieties. We will be drowning in the stuff but she loves it.
Books, she loves reading so I will have a good look in The Works for bargains and Waterstones for some more specific titles.
Will top up with stocking fillers from B&M - lip balms, nail varnishes, bath bombs, etc. - she's into that kind of cosmetic stuff but the kids' versions with Stitch or Swizzels flavours rather than Sephora.
Craft and drawing stuff - again, will see what is going on B&M and The Works
We have a good balance of being chilled on screen time and still playing but she already has a tablet and Switch.

I've bought my 9yo a stunt yoyo plus a book of tricks to accompany it, a pair of wireless headphones and some Xmas Haribo so far. She'll also get some more books, pretty stationery and art stuff, and probably a small piece of equipment for her sport that will upgrade the current one which is now very tired.
There will be more, but I'm also at a bit of a loss until she gives me her ideas list in the next week or two. She still plays with toys, but we have so much of the ranges she likes (Lego, Barbie, Silvanians, Playmobil) now DD1 isn't interested anymore and has passed all her collections over to DD2 on top of what DD2 already had, I really don't want to add to it. She does like body sprays and lip balms, but has bought enough of her own with pocket money that, again, we really don't need to add to it! Otherwise, she isn't interested in skincare etc (thankfully!). She has a few plants in her room, which she loves, so I may get her another to add to her indoor jungle.

My dd is 8, nearly 9. She’s hard to buy for as she doesn’t really play with many toys anymore, she mostly plays Roblox, minecraft or is reading or crafting things at home.

Shes getting lots of crafty bits, paper, card, stickers etc along with some Robux and a Starbucks voucher.

She loves capybaras so I’ve got her a capybara Hug-a-Lump and some capybara stationary.

Shes asked for Guess Who and I’ve got her an Airup bottle and some pods, she’s got a couple of Demon Hunter T-shirts and tickets to a K-pop concert and her main present is a Yoto and I’m hoping some cards will be on sale for Black Friday so I can get her a little selection as she loves a bedtime audio story.

Where are you getting a badge making thing from please? I think she’d love that as well (her birthdays in March so if I buy too much in the run up to Christmas some bits get allocated as birthday presents!)

Have you bought the K-Pop Yoto card? I’ve just ordered for my DD!

gggrrrargh · 02/11/2025 07:36

I love this thread! My daughter is 9 in January and I was finding it hard to think of what to get what we don’t already have etc - there are so many great ideas on here. Thank you

TheGriffle · 02/11/2025 07:49

@CazMcD it’s on my list!

VelvetThunder · 02/11/2025 07:55

Kpop demon hunters funkos, + hoodie and some stickers etc.
Lots of stationery items + notebooks.
New tom gates book.
New balance trainers.
She'd also like some amazing digital circus stuff, so it'll be stickers and a soft toy probably.
Harry potter Lego.

Richtea67 · 02/11/2025 08:00

Mine has asked for various soft toys, Dr Squisy squish maker, peachy baby cloud slime, some new earnings, robux and a set of fold up gymnastic bars for her bedroom. She also asked for a vanity case with some make up.

fruitfly3 · 02/11/2025 08:39

Roller skates
Riding lessons
A baking subscription
tie die t shirt kit
hoodie with thumb holes (at her request)
books
Circuit kit
wreck this journal
flip 7
sky Jo
stocking is small toys and games, sweets, nail varnish and earrings

ForTipsyFinch · 02/11/2025 08:42

My 8 year old has
kpop demon hunter hoody’s x 2
Zara stitch ‘ugg’ boots
stitch headphones
stitch interactive toy
Sanrio earrings (Argos)
scented jewellery making set
make up set
robux voucher
a few arts and crafts sets

She doesn’t have a ‘main’ present and doesn’t really play with toys. Will go to primark and get some pjs and Sanrio things too.

SomethingFun · 02/11/2025 08:57

So far I’ve got dd Six and High School Musical tickets and then some stocking fillers - Primark fake Snow Angel shimmer body spray, shower foam and some Harry Potter stationary. I’m going to get some books, an oodie, a board game I’ve seen in Waterstones by the guy who writes Bunny vs Monkey, bath bombs and lip balm.

I haven’t had ‘the list’ yet though but she does have a birthday as well coming up and her gps are happy to buy off the list so she will get plenty of the tat she says she desperately wants 😁

Tunisia2025 · 02/11/2025 09:10

For everyone whos children are liking k-pop demon hunters, they are doing live shows all over the uk, I have my 8 year old dd tickets for christmas so if its something they may love its worth checking if they are doing a show in your area

hinterkitten · 02/11/2025 10:01

We’re trying to cull soft toys as it is, though those are the main “toys” she likes. Maybe very specific jellycats or squishmalllows. Lego mainly gets ignored and all the Sylvanian families have recently been put into storage- I think if she had a sibling to play with toys/role play with her she’d be more into them, but her friends mainly want to play video games or dress up. She wants a giant shark blanket she can wear and I’ll probably get more costume type things.

She’s mainly into gaming/crafty things so probably Robux, air dry modeling clay, maybe something related to coding/editing if there’s something there that can be made into a gift! Things like stop motion kits have been great in the past, but the 3D pen from last year has only been used once.

The wild card thing I’m considering this year is a beginner’s sewing machine as she’s shown interest and there’s a place nearby that does sewing lessons on machines for 9+, but I know nothing about sewing so not sure she’d have the support at home to get into it!

She’s not that into clothes/shoes (except crocs which she has lots of!) but wanted a sensory hoodie with squishy things at the ends of the sleeves, and generally likes “satisfying” sensory fidget things (she’s neurotypical). She’d also like an indoor sensory swing chair but that would need a frame as I am not confident we’d safely attach it to the ceiling! We just redid her bedroom to be more grown up so I think she’d like things like fairy lights and ways to hang photos.

She just got trainers, wireless headphones and a Stanley cup when visiting her grandparents last week. She isn’t that into labubus but did want a Dubai chocolate labubu last week too. They might get her a Switch 2.

Possibly tickets to the K Pop Demon Hunter disco here, or a Girly Pop show.

She’s not very exposed to social media, or interested in makeup/skincare so far (but some of her friends at school are so it trickles in).

Gemi33 · 02/11/2025 10:27

A few people mentioned lip balms / scented nail polish / make up - any particular recommendations?

SkankingWombat · 02/11/2025 19:34

Gemi33 my 9yo (and 11yo) like any lip balms in the flavour of brands of sweets/ice creams etc (like Love Hearts or Refresher bars), but I've also had success with Burts Bees. The 11yo also likes a little tin of Vaseline, but that's mostly because it's so versatile and can also be used to ease any dry patches of skin or sore spots where her swimming cossie is rubbing (both due to the joys of competitive swimming). I get the sweets-favoured lip balms from B&M.

My dd got the dr squish maker for her birthday and it was a massive hit!

RolandOnTheRopes · 03/11/2025 18:53

@debbiewest0 that clay mini dog set looks great thank you!

Well received presents for DD 9th birthday were Our Generation Hop In Dog Carrier Set and Photo Creator Instant Camera both from Smyths toys. She also loved the Squishy maker set last Christmas, and Galt toys beading/jewellery sets.

There’s a puppy treat truck as well. My girls have both and made loads of corn dogs and treats for their pets to eat!
