What are you getting your 8/9yo girls?

purplespink · 27/10/2025 19:23

What are you getting/what have they asked for?

I know that DD is definitely going to ask for Labubus, Sticki Rolls, Horrid Henry books and Robux. I think that she might ask for a switch but unsure on that right now.

Lego, tickets to see Six and some art and bath stuff for her stocking. And a Beano annual.
We're going away for Christmas this year so trying to keep it minimal!

AlexaBeQuiet · 30/10/2025 23:45

Following for an 8.5 year old granddaughter.
What is a Roblox?
Where do you buy a genuine Labubu?
Why are kids obsessed with lip balms?
What should I buy from Sephora for 8.5 year old? Sol de Janeiro?
Advice please? Help?

Notsolittlebutstillsoyoung · 30/10/2025 23:46

Not sure, but it'll be mostly toys. We will get her a new (kids) tablet as hers is very old and glitchy now (she uses it for reading kindle stuff mostly).

She's still at the stage where she hates even brushing her hair and moans about washing her face, so definitely no beauty stuff here 😂.

She plays a lot, but mostly imaginative play that doesn't require much stuff, so I'm going to have to do some thinking. Probably a couple of board games and not sure what else. Possibly a rug for the playroom that looks like the one from Bluey.

My child is quite 'young' for her age but I find it depressing how many kids her age don't seem to play at all any more. Not that I want a debate on that here, they are all different, and that's fine.

Nothing from Sephora 😂
Roblox is an online game, they can use real money to buy things so they want Robux/gift cards.
Labubus are on the way out.

DrMcDreamier · 30/10/2025 23:47

My daughter will be 10 and asked for the our generation hogwarts express. I’ve also got her an American girl doll, the Lego horse and some lush bits. Shes very much straddling toys vs other bits but I’m desperate to maximise her childhood. Oh and lots of books

I have an 8 year old and childmind 7-9 year olds and they all play all day - playmobil, lego, dolls, roleplay cafes.

Hope you don’t mind me saying but I’m not sure Six is suitable for 8/9 year olds. There’s some quite adult themes and bad language. I took my DD when she was 11 and we loved it, but even at that age I thought any younger would be too young. Just a heads-up in case you weren’t aware.

Blondeshavemorefun · 31/10/2025 01:19

@Dandelionsfordinner well aren’t you a helpful poster

anyone who mentions iPads /gaming/switchs /branded or named goods etc is imm a bad parent as not toys

and body spray. Well yes as my daughter is heading towards puberty as many are in her class and doesn’t want to start to smell after pe or forest school or gymnastics which she does a lot of

not really sure how that makes me or her a chav but pmsl

DoYaKnowTheFiveLamps · 31/10/2025 02:28

I’ve a nine year old niece and I’m getting her a Labubu keychain (I think they’re a bit mad looking, but the kids love them), a diary and gel pens, fluffy socks and chocolates

Upsadiddles · 31/10/2025 02:30

Mine is getting an instant camera, crocs, a potion kit, books, a cuddle cushion, and some craft sets. Her stocking will have some makeup, lipbalm, art supplies, a card game, fidget toys, sweets, and she’ll get some PJs and some clothes.

Other things she’s mentioned which she may get from family include heeleys, a smart watch, sticki rolls, jewellery making kit, and slime.

She has no interest in getting new toys, but does still play with her LOLs/Barbies, and she’ll play with the toy kitchen with her little sister. She got a switch last year doesn’t play on it all that regularly at the minute, but we do enjoy a family Mario kart tournament and spent a good chunk of Christmas Day on that, even grandparents had a go. It got quite competitive 😂

Roblox is an online game where you can play lots of mini-games with friends.
You can get Labubus from the Popmart website or in geeky shops like Forbidden Planet
I personally wouldnt go to Sephora for an 8 year old, I’d go to Boots and grab a Soap and Glory or Nivea set (saves money)

purplespink · 28/10/2025 07:58

@Teresetayes she has, couldn’t believe how small they were when they turned up!

Complete rip off but she was delighted with her "rare" figure

No idea about why the obsession with lip balms! Though I do remember collecting lip balms and coloured rubbers back in the 80s at a similar age...just not as much choice then!
I can't get my dd to wash her face so its definitely not a skincare aspect!

TardisDweller · 31/10/2025 21:27

Dd is young for her age and still loves toys. She's only asked for a toy puppy thing, art supplies and a barbie.
In her stocking she'll also get books, squishmallow bits and pieces, squish alongs, lip balm, a mini backpack, nice stationery, stickers, a squishy, a craft set, marbles, fluffy socks and something with kpop on that I still need to decide/find.

Cornishmumofone · 31/10/2025 21:54

my daughter has just turned 9 and will be getting a Microbit and various accessories and some Lego. She’d love an American Girl doll, but we can’t afford that.

CeeCeeDeeBee · 31/10/2025 22:22

Which potion kits are people buying? I think my DD would love one.

Check on market place, I got the school for 15 pounds and when we collected the woman gave us three dolls to go with it!

unicornsandchocolate · 01/11/2025 18:59

My 9.5 year old is getting a karaoke machine or a netball net as main gift. Other gifts (from grandparents, aunts & uncles etc - they always ask us to buy for the kids) are:
Label maker
Clothes: stitch sweatshirt & gymnastics shorts
Books
A swimsuit
A boardgame (probably The Traitors)

Last year she got Hogwarts Lego and loved it.

boredsolicitor · 01/11/2025 19:39

can I ask what a microbe is? I looked on Amazon and it looks like an electronic kit? I’m looking for inspiration for niece 8!yrs old. Not sure if this would be too grown up?

debbiewest0 · 01/11/2025 20:16

Fimo. They spend ages making little animals and then playing with them 😊

there is a different brand kit that’s really good too. Klutz mini clay world puppy adoption truck - gives you really easy instructions to follow to make all your pups. We then use the book with our fimo.
