Stocking up the Christmas cupboard!

A lot of us add bits and pieces to the 'Christmas cupboard' or in the weeks/months running up to Christmas.

Let's all share what we have stashed so far here, whether it is sweet or savoury, alcoholic or soft, store bought or home made.

Also feel free to share bargains of the Christmas classics (I can't believe how much Terry's chocolate oranges are this year!).

@rainbowunicorn22 Reading this thread and googling it would seem M&S Big Mix are the tins of chocolates to go for, but just looking on Ocado and it seems they are gone! Already? FFS Mumsnetters give us a chance! :D

HappySonHappyMum · 13/11/2025 09:32

So far I have:
Tub of Heroes
After Eights for the dinner table
Christmas Crackers
Jar of Cranberry sauce
Terrys Dark Chocolate Orange - because it is so superior to the Milk Chocolate version!
Christmas Pringle tubs
Turkey Foil
Advent tealights

JBJ · 13/11/2025 12:02

Nothing yet, although I have bought a leg of lamb, which is in the freezer, ordered a three bird roast from M&S to collect Christmas Eve and reserved a Morrisons slot, so fairly organised by my standards! I don’t really get much stuff in though, apart from for the day, plus I’m suffering from gallstones so won’t be able to indulge much this year anyway!

Inspired by M&S Merry Munch, I've decided to put together my own luxury version. Salted pretzels, choc peanut clusters & premium mix nuts from Aldi. Random juicers & fizzy ones £1 each currently from Tesco's. Reeces' peanut butter cups (large pouch £2.75) also from Tescos. Not keen on choc popcorn so will skip that! I've spent approx £12 on 1310g . The Merry Munch tin costs £10 for 460g and my version is a more luxury one and I have prettier cake tins

That is genius!

Bjorkdidit · 14/11/2025 08:52

I'm also impressed by the DIY Merry Munch.

I've already got some blonde chocolate coated almonds from Aldi or Lidl and a load of dried fruit and nuts in the baking cupboard that need using up.

I think I'll get a couple of extra bits and put something together myself.

Trying a reverse Christmas stock. We have so much booze in the house, overflowing the wine rack and stacked in odd cupboards. I’m planning to take a photo of it all and as part of our prep decide what to drink over Christmas. Visitors already warned to not bring any more. Appreciate they might feel off turning up empty handed so hope by involving them it will gain some traction.

we have got in the habit of sticking up from Christmas and then bring gifted more do have completely lost track of what we have.

Sigh.

No one said getting older would be like this.

I need to do this with our alcohol too. It doesn’t matter how much you tell people not to bring anything as you have it all they still do!

Can't you give the.booze to local hamper charities for Xmas or keeping it to donate to school tombola and things like that ?

Yes we’ve got rid of some that way. Everywhere asking for raffle or tombola prizes has been given some. I think I just need to drink more wine 😉

Mikart · 15/11/2025 08:43

10 boxes of crackers from Fine Cheese Company arrived yesterday. There are 2 of us.

SkankingWombat · 15/11/2025 11:30

We don't do much shop bought snacking over Xmas (the leftovers are too good and plentiful), so I don't get much of that, but I do like to spread the cost for ingredients, pre-made stuff, and booze. There are always good offers on early and you can freeze a lot of yellow stickered stuff.

So far, we have:
Sausage meat
Pigs in blankets
Rib of beef
Coquilles St Jacques (have 2, need another 2)
Salmon pâté
Box of M&S party food
Xmas pud
Stollen
Chocolate-covered marzipan
Bucks Fizz
Cheese biscuits
Homemade cranberry sauce

Work in progress: homemade crème de cassis

Still to buy over the next few weeks:
Wine
Crémant
Kids' choice of 'fancy' soft drink
Ham
Red cabbage (to make in advance and freeze)
Remaining Coquilles St Jacques
Smoked salmon
Some other party food bits if spotted yellow stickered
Prawn ring(s) (need to make freezer space first though!)

To order for delivery:
Turkey
Cheese

I've bought quite a few packets of mince pies too, but these have been for general consumption/packed lunches as DH & DCs are obsessed with them. I've had no expectation each pack would make it past a few days in the house! Ditto bags of nuts.
The last 2 years my Xmas week shop has been very cheap, because it has mostly been just fresh fruit and veg. It means I can be in and out of the supermarket quickly, without any worry about not having what I'm going for (they always overstock veg).

there is plenty, some of it really decent stuff that the family have gifted us over the years. Feels right to give them the chance of drinking it with us, as a follow up to their original gift.

Looking forward to enjoying it with them, so long as they don’t bring even more.

2 of us ate just over 2kg of cheese last year. Crackers are essential.

Better get my Christmas order in before the carboncino sells out 😂

Peridot1 · 15/11/2025 12:23

We started the Christmas cupboard.

DH ordered a tub of Celebrations with the supermarket shop last week.
Today I got DS’s advent calendar - he’s 24. Just likes the Cadbury one.
I also bought a small iced Christmas cake - used to make one but it’s only DH and I that eat it and it’s expensive and hangs around for months. Last year I just bought a small one and we ate it and enjoyed it.

Also bought some Christmas cards. Don’t send many now but the village all do them.

ThisTaupeZebra · 15/11/2025 14:16

Managed to get a good haul this morning while my son spent an hour in a class, and I think I might be nearly there...

I now have:

Sweet
Kinder Surprise Father Christmas' for 6 December
Terry's chocolate orange (the cheapest I have found is £1.75 in Lidl)
Guylian Seahorses (found them in Poundland for £3)
Snowman shaped marshmallows (gifted)
Bendict's Bittermints
Lindor Balls
Medjool dates

Savoury
M&S crackers x2
M&S piccalilli
Jar of pickled onions
Tub of Twiglets
Tub of Pringles
1kg of nuts for roasting
Those boxes of pretzels you get in the individual compartments

Drinks
J20 Glitterberry
Coke
Lemonade
Apple juice
Fino sherry
Sloe gin currently steeping
Blackberry, bay, black peppercorn gin, also currently steeping

Has anybody seen those giant jars of Branston Pickle with the Christmas themed label on them? I haven't seen those anywhere so far this year.

I'm looking at aged Comté
Colston Bassett Stilton
Delice de Bourgogne or Brillat-Savarin
An ash-rolled goat cheese
Keens cheddar
Something soft and stinky as suggested above.

They are so much nicer than roses etc and £12 for 1.1kg is pretty affordable. I got a tin last week in store.
I implore everyone to buy them.

Collected my freebie Waitrose treat of Cinnamon Knot biscuits and bought another packet for good measure (I liked them when I sampled them from last year)

LOL I have literally just returned from Waitrose with my freebie ‘little treats’ Cinnamon Knots too!
