Stocking up the Christmas cupboard!

A lot of us add bits and pieces to the 'Christmas cupboard' or in the weeks/months running up to Christmas.

Let's all share what we have stashed so far here, whether it is sweet or savoury, alcoholic or soft, store bought or home made.

Also feel free to share bargains of the Christmas classics (I can't believe how much Terry's chocolate oranges are this year!).

We don't have people chip in but to be fair some other family members also take their turns hosting so we'll be hosted by my brother and his family for New Year, and another family member tends to do a party around the 28th. It does mean some relatives (SIL I'm looking at you 🤣) never reciprocate hosting and don't contribute but overall it doesn't feel so bad hosting 20 people if we also get to be hosted in return.

Ah that’s great then , the load and cost is spread around . We always hear of these poor souls hosting large numbers every single year and it doesn’t seem fair .

I managed to get a new tin of French confit duck, which will be a lovely dinner with DH one night over the festive season. (I can only get it in one supermarket where I am, and it’s not cheap, but sooo tasty).

I’ve just had a baby so stocked up in advance. So far we have:

Homemade sloe gin in the cupboard, homemade Christmas pudding in the cupboard and cake in the tin.

I’ve bought a small box of posh chocolates from Audrey’s, 2 tubs of roses, one of Quality Street, one M&S box of milk chocolate truffles, mint chocolates, chocolate gingers, a box of Turkish delight, a half bottle of champagne and some biscuits for cheese, plus some GF ginger biscuits and GF shortbread (I’m coeliac).

I’ve ordered pre prepped veg, stuffing, chipolatas with bacon and a GF chocolate Yule log from M&S for collection on Christmas Eve to make life easy in case we’re very sleep deprived, and ordered a ham from Dukeshill. DS (6) just wants a chicken and we’re not going to argue with that this year as it’s likely just 4-6 of us on Christmas Day.

We’ll get sherry, Baileys, mulled wine, fresh fruit, cheese and pickles/chutneys, crisps and biscuits, seafood, bread nearer the time.

I love a Christmas cupboard! I’m re-using an old F&M hamper, stowed away in a spare room, as my Christmas treat store (as I would otherwise never resist temptation). I have just started to fill it this weekend:

M&S Christmas Coffee (ground) and Spiced Tea
M&S Very Merry Munch (and a pack of mini chocolate peanut butter cups to add in)
M&S Big Mix chocolates (I cannot go back to Roses nor Quality Street)
Pate de fruits jelly sweets
Lindt coconut sticks
M&S Cranberry sauce with Port (was lovely last year)
Box of shortbread and assorted chocolate biscuits
Jacobs cheeselets
Biscuits/crackers for cheese + jar of quince fruit cheese
Grissini and breadsticks
Christmas pudding
Glass bottles of Coca Cola and Diet Coke
Appletiser (so 80s/90s!)
Bottle of Coole Swan (I prefer it to Baileys!)

I need to buy a jar of pickled onions and piccalilli (to have dabbed on Boxing Day pork pies), plus mincemeat and the fresh bits and bobs for Christmas.

I am also on the hunt for a lovely indulgent Yule log or similar chocolate cake, in case anyone has recommendations!

Following for ideas!

We always keep Christmas fairly simple with just the 6 of us but I think this year will be even more pared down as I'm on MJ so the usual stuffing myslef at Christmas doesn't appeal but I'm looking forward to little tastes of lovely things.

We have a Christmas cupboard but there not alot in there yet (baileys and table crackers so far) but I've got ocado booked and a list saved on ocado ready to add to basket nearer the time once more Christmas stuff comes into stock

WhineAndWine1 · 09/11/2025 17:11

I bought the Waitrose Christmas Tiramisu Torta looks fab and I had a £12 off voucher for m&s foodhall so got two boxes of biscuits for £1.

cityanalyst678 · 09/11/2025 17:13

I bought 3 boxes of chocolates and proceeded to take them out of the cupboard and we have eaten them. So not going well

I did this with one pack of fun size chocolate bars before Halloween. Was horrified when I realised I had got down to the last Freddo Blush hence hiding the Christmas treats away, out of sight, out of mind.

cityanalyst678 · 09/11/2025 17:24

I dare not buy anymore chocolate….

Our Christmas stash is in the garage. We've done well at not eating the stuff we can't see. Some stuff has failed to make it to the garage, however! 😬

I've got Lindor chocolates for stockings £5.50 Sainsbury's.
Giant Toblerone bars for stockings £4.50 Sainsbury's.
A box of orange matchmakers. £1.50 B&M
Chocolate oranges £1.75 Aldi I got milk chocolate and mint chocolate but they didn't have any dark chocolate ones.
Feraro Rocher chocolates for mil stocking. £7.50 Morrisons.
Thornton chocolates £7.

I bought a large joint of leg of pork and put in freezer.

ATM I'm more focused on buying gifts for stockings.

Mikart · 09/11/2025 20:23

So far I have:

Sweet
Terry's chocolate orange (the cheapest I have found is £1.75 in Lidl)
Guylian Seahorses (found them in Poundland for £3)
Snowman shaped marshmallows (gifted)

Savoury
M&S crackers x2
M&S piccalilli
Jar of pickled onions

Drinks
Fino sherry
Sloe gin currently steeping
Blackberry, bay, black peppercorn gin, also currently steeping

I'm probably going to add Benedicts Bittermints and a pack of Lindor this week.

Sainsbury's seems to have the best deal so far this year at £5.50 with a Nectar card each.

Blackberry bay and black peppercorn gin?! Can you share the recipe?

We had one today while I was making 48 mince pies! 😬 Xmas Grin

Iceland are doing the chocolate tubs at £7!! £7 for half the amount, crappy swaps and not even a decent tin!

The pickled onions, Picalilli and Branston Havel entered the house, along with various biscuits and horrible stinky Twiglets and Cheeselets.

Dp was watching the football yesterday and having a brandy (poor lamb has a cold, the worst ever cold, etc etc) and was eyeing up the Christmas unit…
I reminded him about the year we ate all the tubs and had to replace them.

Im fairly certain he sulked briefly 😁

pushthebuttonnn · 13/11/2025 02:46

So far I've got:

6 Wines (rose, white , red)
Cider
Beer
Baileys Original
Chocolate orange Baileys
Coca Cola
M&s big mix tin
M&S fudge
After eights
Haribo tub
Selection boxes

Will go to M&S / Tesco nearer the time for chocolate logs etc

user1497787065 · 13/11/2025 04:39

I’m reading this with interest. I’ve always wondered who buys all the chocolates in the first aisle at Tesco and it’s Mumsnetters. Our Christmas sounds so dull in comparison. I buy no chocolate as I would eat it, we always have wine in but I no longer drink it. I cook a Christmas turkey for supper on Christmas Day and that’s it.

cleo333 · 13/11/2025 04:49

Good idea

Empress13 · 13/11/2025 06:29

Box of reduced Heroes ….. the end lol

muddyford · 13/11/2025 08:23

Tub of Heroes (reduced)
2l Baileys (reduced)
Rolled turkey breast from butcher (reduced - they do this every November) plus bacon
Four bottles of bramble whisky maturing
Three bottles of apple and cinnamon whisky ditto
(Last two items will last ages)

It looks as though we'll be in an alcoholic stupor well into New Year.

Onefortheroad25 · 13/11/2025 08:41

Jesus I have nothing!
3 selection boxes and a tub of Hero’s!

sueelleker · 13/11/2025 09:08

I love Lavolio chocolate-covered fruit and nuts, and back in September they were doing a 2-for-1 offer on big tins. So I've got those; plus various nuts (salted and chocolate covered) I like nuts!

evtheria · 13/11/2025 09:10

1 box of McVities biscuits (the gold box, specifically)
1 bag of Tesco speculoos popcorn
1 bag of Tesco giant salted pretzels

…aaaand that’s it 😅

rainbowunicorn22 · 13/11/2025 09:25

we had a conversation the other day about tins of chocolates ie Roses, Quality Street etc and have agreed not to buy them. we go away for a non-Christmas, and last year we opened them on 'Xmas day' afternoon; we were very disappointed. they were barely covering the bottom of the tin, so this year I am looking out for favourite sweets and chocolates to take with us instead.
