Thread 6 - the one where things are getting organised

This post is a work in process and if you have any links you’d like to share or would be good to add then please do let me know. The general consensus for the thread is to share any bargainous links, ideas and/or discount codes or information. No affiliate links (is that the right word?) And any referral links to the separate thread linked below. This is a warm, friendly, kind and cosy corner of mn filled with Christmas cookies and hot chocolate - let’s keep it that way!

If you have any referral links then please post on this thread https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/christmas/5212180-bargain-referrals-thread-7 and share around the joy/referral perks.

Hope you're all well. I've just put in a big Temu order for stocking bits and bits for work. They gave me £8 off my next order yesterday as two orders I had are arriving late and, when I contacted customer services about something, they also gave me a 20% off voucher, so I saved £20 on my order!

@hugsandpugs @FredaFox I linked an Etsy seller on the SBS thread - she's excellent.😊Someone else bought from her recently and recommended her as well on the 'Make My House Smell Like Christmas' thread.

She does Jo Malone and White Co. dupes (candles and wax melts) that are quite cheap so definitely worth checking out as PP advised! Honestly I cannot recommend her enough as she also does Mix N' Match orders so you can pick multiple scents to have in the same box.

No free samples, I'm afraid. But one of her wax-melts gave me over ten hours of scent😍

Thanks! I’ll check them out. I like northern soul scents but always looking for others

@Tryonemoretime digital photo frame with photos preloaded? We got MIL one last year and it went down well. Gave DH's siblings the login details so they can also send pics of their families and keep it updated.

Our children bought him one. They upload photos to it. He doesn't switch it on....

Was it a Dreamland heated throw? They've just replaced mine because it stopped working as they have a 2 yr warranty. I just emailed them, they asked for prove I had bought it (luckily found an old Boots email) and they sent a free postage sticker, returned it and two days later they delivered a new one.

Yes dreamland but I’ve checked and I’ve had it 4 years so definitely need to replace. Thanks though!

George are doing 70% off clothing sale. On Friday it was 50%, forgot to order, went on early today got a couple hello kitty tops for £3! Selling out quickly it would seem, good few baby items also.

It's the same shop as before! As you can probably tell I absolutely love her scents😂

I would like to order from here but have never used Etsy before! I can't work out how to order different scents per box, if that is a thing?! The pictures show different melts in the box but I can only see a option to choose one scent. Can anyone help? I'm probably being thick!

Does anyone know if they’ll be bringing out KPop Demon Hunters dolls out (Barbie-style)? Seems strange that a toy company hasn’t picked this up as they’d surely sell out!

I read somewhere that there probably isn’t time for them to bring out official demon hunter dolls. I was looking on Etsy uk and people are selling some versions on there which I was considering buying. Have you seen those?

The 'option' to pick is 'Custom Order' which is usually at the very bottom of the list of Scents. There should be a little box under all the options marked 'personalisation'. If you click on that you should be able to type in a little message listing the scents you like.

Let me know if that works 😊

Edited

Thanks for this, just to add you can 'buy' an extra 10÷ off the sale with the (completely pointless) loyalty points if you go into the rewards section on your account.

Problem is, he has memory problems (not dementia) and finds technology difficult. He only goes out when I take him (though is on the rota for rare outside visits run by the care home). Our children bought him a Pictureframe and puts photos on it, but he seldom switches it on.He used to love DIY and whisky but his hands are trembly and he's had a tricky relationship with alcohol. He's such a lovely man, but it's difficult to buy him anything!

If his room is on the ground floor maybe a window bird feeder?

BeaLola · 12/10/2025 18:06

Tryonemoretime
My Dad 94 loved the big tin of chocolates I did for him - think Kit Kat, mats bats, Maltesers , galaxy - something to eat with his cup of tea

Does he have a view into a garden - you could buy a bird feeder and some seeds (B&M or Home Bargains) and he could watch all the wildlife each day

Knowledgeable ladies of MN I need your help please?
DD (age 25) has had a major flare up of her eczema during the last year so I am looking for recommmendations for toiletries, make-up etc. Looking for stuff that doesn't look 'clinical' so price is not important. I just want her to be able to indulge herself as she has always loved beauty stuff. Ideally we could get some sample products to try first. Perfume is not a problem and she can just squirt it onto her clothes. Has anyone any suggestions please?.Price is not an issue I just want to help her feel good again.

Thank-you

PS Love these threads. Thanks to the original posters.

La Roche posay ‘lipikar’ range is lovely and gentle.
Technology like a LED face mask really helps.

Make up brands are hit or miss. I needed new foundation and went into John Lewis where one lovely assistant went around four counters and got me a few days sample of each. Bobbi brown weightless is currently working well.

We got my aunt a clear one of these. She’s on the first floor but the handy man kindly stuck it on and fills it most weeks - we buy him Easter eggs, Halloween sweets and Christmas chocolates to show our thanks.

@ArthurChristmas22 I’ve sent several from Bloom & Wild over the years and they have always been well received. A couple were repotted and are still going. If you haven’t used them before, the referral code is pretty decent- there might be one on the referral thread already, or I can put mine up.

Yes please! That's exactly what I was looking for x

Amazing, thank you. I will give it a try!

I just did an order with Flying Tiger. Lots of stocking filler bits for £1-3.
I got boxing reindeer and nutracker pens £3 (these were a bit a few years ago with DH and his brother both in their 30s!). They also had donut, hamster and alien ones some were reduced.
Giant chocolate coin £1.50
popping Candy chocolate elf sticks £1.50
Christmas marshmallow gummie stick £2
4x magnetic Christmas bookmarks £1.50
3x Christmas embroidery kit £6

Just to prewarn you, their packaging was poor when I last received an order from them. So much so, a few photo frames arrived in pieces.

The box contained little to no protective packaging inside the box. Considering it was travelling from another country, you would have thought more care would have been taken.

I hope they have sorted it out by now, and all your items arrive safely.

@HeatingFiddlersorry could I please have the name of the Etsy seller?

zacsGranny · 12/10/2025 18:50

I'm looking for wrapped adult sweets to fill something I've made.
Love Lindor but they work out pricey for the amount I want
£5.50 for 200g is the best price I've seen so far.
Also found a box of Cherry Liquers for £3.50 which held 12 sweets.
Any suggestions or better prices please?

Hello,

I posted this on the stocking fillers thread too but just in case anyone knows.. I wanted to get DP a few mini aftershaves for his stocking rather than a big one as he quite likes a few different brands (Boss, Diesel, Paco Rabanne etc)

Does anyone have recommendations for where to get mini aftershaves please that are still presented nicely? Thank you ☺️

Not quite what you are after if you want to be able to pick minis of his favourites but this might be a good idea? Discovery box - they have lots to choose from

Please can anyone give me suggestions for a 97 year old man in a care home? He's not keen on chocolate and no booze, please! Thank you.

@Tryonemoretime we used to buy my great uncle things from Bettys tea room. They went down well - obviously depends on your budget.

Oh yes true. I did get a few pence extra off and paypal are doing cashback on George also.

Could you not wait for the offers on the big tubs of roses/ celebrations etc?

Roses are actually on a club card offer in Tesco at the moment for a fiver

TherebytheGraceofGodgoI · 12/10/2025 20:03

@Tryonemoretime maybe discreetly find out whether he likes boiled sweets. My Mum is in her 90s and would be so disappointed to have some given to her. She says that was all they could get during the war and for some time afterwards and she’d rather ‘something better’ although she does enjoy a mint after her meals.
My suggestion is for a tinned whiskey cake, this seems to go down well with elderly men in my family. I’ve tried it and it is lovely.

Heated throws are £32.98 in Costco. Anyone can join their online only membership which is £42.00, but you would probably easily make that back in savings througout the year.

I don't work for Costco, I just shop there a lot!

Edited for typo.
