I don't know about anyone else but I find I struggle to think of gift ideas for myself (I have bday just after xmas so I get double trouble).

I've always found these threads quite helpful in sharing what others are getting for inspiration. I hope to maybe get a couple of these things if I'm lucky...

I'm 48.

I have a selection of books on my list, mostly non fiction. Spinosaur Tales and Floating Home being two of them (about Spinosaurids and living on a boat respectively).
A new handbag
Some of the Blond of Amsterdam Efteling collection. Specifically the Hansel and Gretel bowls and plates.
A lego set. Haven't decided which yet.
Savage Garden board game.

I'll be in the Netherlands the week before Christmas so keeping mostly keeping my options open.

Scottishskifun · 10/10/2025 11:05

39 here I've asked for a Garmin watch (the cheaper end) from DH as my previous watch broke and can't be fixed.

Other thing on my list - some reusable hand warmers and some bath salts.

BarryKentPoet · 10/10/2025 11:07

I have a few of these prints already but I'd like the Vosene one Punk Haus Print

This uttterly gorgeous Fair Isle jumper from Bosie

A new Mina Lima book for my collection - or ANY of the prints/accessories because they are ALL gorgeous!

Any book from my wish list

A voucher for Six by Nico for any of their tasting menus

44 here
I've asked for a hoodie with "fitness instructor" on it as that's what I do now.
On my amazon list which I share with DH are a number of books, jodhpurs, welly socks, fluffy shoe liners. Not very exciting, sorry!

I don’t get why this list would be ’weird’?! It’s normal stuff.

almost everyone here listing 5-10 things they want for Xmas, why so many? What is the point in so many things?

All right, Captain Sanctimonious, calm down. Feel free to ask your own family to buy you a hessian sack and a glass of water, if that makes you feel better.

It’s just a thread for people to say what sort of things they might like to receive, in an ideal world, on Christmas Day. Nobody is saying they need all these things, or that they expect to get all of them or even any of them.

As for ‘the point’ in these things, as far as I can see from looking at people’s lists, people have mostly asked for things that will be useful (eg coats, jumpers, boots, tools), things that will enhance their lives slightly by adding a little touch of luxury / frivolity / sensory enjoyment to their day (eg perfume, jewellery, food), cultural experiences (eg concert tickets), or things related to hobbies and pastimes (books, fitness equipment, Lego, puzzles). All pretty normal human joys, I’d have thought.

ChocolateCinderToffee · 10/10/2025 09:34

I’m mid-60s and single so I buy most of my own gifts. I’m having:
new slippers
nightdress
artisan chocolates from a local company
expensive yarn to knit a cardigan
scent
gold earrings
a couple of books

I do love your username, I’d love to have some chocolate cinder toffee 🤩 what a great idea!! So many single people I imagine don’t bother and don’t treat themselves. They should do just as you. A time to spoil yourself a wee bit. Have a fab Christmas and I bet that posh cardi you’re going to enjoy knitting will be awesome 🎄 xx

WannaFOffOnHoliday · 10/10/2025 15:18

Some nice warm Christmas socks

Dliplop · 10/10/2025 15:20

I’ve been adding things I can’t quite afford to my list for months!

  • skinfix moisturizer and cleanser
  • a local expensive body butter
  • protein powder (the one I really like is too expensive, I can afford blech ones)
  • A few food things from overpriced places - gf cinnamon buns, raw vegan taco dip 😂
  • Casio smartwatch but still looking at other brands
  • trangia gas burner for my camping stove
  • bar mitts for my bike
gift cards/annual passes to some good attractions for my family

I should find sweaters I want and add them since I don’t have many left in decent condition, and might get specific about chocolate and local fancy cider

The first year we were married dh had never done Christmas lists and he had money to burn, I got every single thing on my list and was mortified! Years later and on a budget I can only dream

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 10/10/2025 15:27

64 here and a birthday not long before Christmas so I need to keep thinking of things (because the kids are asking).

A new mouse for my laptop (I'd like a new laptop actually, but that's a bit beyond their budget).
Jodhpur boots as my old ones have a hole in
Thick fluffy socks for winter dog walks
Some boxes of lovely chocolates (I'm allergic to chocolate that's too dark, so it's hard to get nice chocolates that don't have too much cocoa in)
Some gorgeous artwork (DIL is an artist and another DILs mum is an artist too, so plenty of scope)
Pots, bits and tools for my garden
Heated throw

friedaddedchilli · 10/10/2025 08:12

You can have mine. It’s been used once and is gathering dust. So props to your DH.

and mine 🙈

I did not! And I have just ordered them so thank you! Reviews do seem to say that people have slept on their side with them so I’m hoping they won’t be uncomfortable

@Mrsplants and @GenerateNewUsername thanks for posting about the earbuds. I’ve bought them for myself too! OH snores and instead of scrolling my phone at 2:30am, I’m going to try listening to a deliberately dull book or the Shipping Forecast to get back to sleep.

PeachyKoala · 10/10/2025 17:34

33 here and a space nk advent calendar, cloud nine straighteners, an owala bottle, a few books and some lush bits!

SummerLightning · 10/10/2025 17:35

I love this thread. I want or should I say I would like:
Some of those dumbbells that clip together so you can vary the weights (expensive)
Air fryer
Mountain bike goggles
Mountain bike bar ends
Tennis shoes
Trainers (not decided which yet)
Expensive knives
Socks (always)
Books

SummerLightning · 10/10/2025 17:35

Oh and I am 48

Poisonwood · 10/10/2025 17:53

I’m 46. The children will choose books for me off my book list, and I know their secret - they are sewing me an eye pillow for my yoga…they even dried lavender for it earlier in year bless them. We only do a couple of things each.

sofaRunner · 10/10/2025 18:02

crazeekat · 09/10/2025 23:28

age 50. I want a decent metal detector

oh wow! me too - well, actually I need a entry level one for DH. Any recommendations would be really appreciated!

KittyRannaldini · 10/10/2025 18:05

I'm very boring with presents and would like tea towels, slippers and a new copy of Eliza Acton's Modern Cookery.

Edit- am 44.

MonkeyTennis34 · 10/10/2025 18:07

Me and DH have decided to cut back this year so I’d like:

A full length (to the floor, quite hard to find!) dressing gown.

A box of Hotel Chocolat fruity chocolates

That’s it!

Depending on how tall you are, the Rosie fluffy dressing down in M&S is very long and cosy

Ellmau · 10/10/2025 18:30

I always want books, and supply a list to interested parties.

ranoutofquinoaandprosecco · 10/10/2025 18:37

Ooh I’d like a new jumpsuit from
Sweaty Betty (currently on sale so I have sent a link to DH).
A kimchi jar to I can start making my own.
A new fur coat from Scamp and Dude.
All the marzipan and licorice.
Vouchers for massages as I’ve currently got a dodgy shoulder!

To add to the reasons for long lists - I've got a lot of kids and they all want to buy me something, so I need at least five items, then there's my brother who buys for me and my best friend with whom I exchange presents. I have to think really hard on the lead up to Christmas!

I don't have a partner, so at least that's one I don't have to suggest to.
