The Christmas Bargain Thread No 2 - The one where it all went very fast

RainbowZebraWarrior · 05/09/2025 18:32

Posting on behalf of @Reastie as I'm guessing she's busy and the last thread was almost full.

This post is a work in process and if you have any links you’d like to share or would be good to add then please do let me know. The general consensus for the thread is to share any bargainous links, ideas and/or discount codes or information. No affiliate links (is that the right word?) And any referral links to the separate thread linked below. This is a warm, friendly, kind and cosy corner of mn filled with Christmas cookies and hot chocolate - let’s keep it that way!

If you have any referral links then please post on this thread <a class="break-all" href="https://_[[//https//www.mumsnet.com/talk/christmas/5212180-bargain-referrals-thread-7" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/christmas/5212180-bargain-referrals-thread-7 and share around the joy/referral perks.

Does anyone know where I can get a play kitchen for my tall 6yo dd please?

I am thinking to just buy a wide one and increase the height using bits of wood

We got someone local to make one because none fitted her. It was no more expensive than a shop bought one.

XiCi · 14/09/2025 10:11

I still cant get the Sparks discount to work on the box, either on the App or online. Really frustrating. I might pop into store today. The 20% discount makes it really good value.

mumofoneAloneandwell · 14/09/2025 10:11

Just got a text telling me to sign up for the Next sale - they gave me a time slot

Apparently 50% off xx

Kent but coast line area

Thank you - might just have to try and go at 10pm to a closer one 😪

Lidlisthebusiness · 14/09/2025 10:15

I second Knoops hot chocolate, best I've had.

NoWordForFluffy · 14/09/2025 10:18

I don't know if this is account specific, but here's a 20% code for Lakeland if you spend £50.

Does anyone had any ideas for some nice baubles? Personalised or not. I wanted to give some as gifts this year as we have a baby's first Christmas and soles losses in the family I though could be marked with a nice bauble to remember. Thank you!

Tom Martin do some lovely ones. Not cheap and dont really do discounts.

IAmLadyWhistledown · 14/09/2025 10:26

Spent a half hour scrolling through thread 1 and now my shopping is well under way! 🥳

Quick question, we are going to purchase a Nintendo switch OLED edition this year for DS7, really don’t want to purchase the newest console as it’s his first type of gaming device and it’s so ££££.

Anyways, does anyone know if there’s discounts on Black Friday for the Nintendo OLED usually? I’ve checked camelcamelcamel just wandered what Smyths, John Lewis etc might be like for discounts..

Thank you! 🎅

Would this box be suitable for young adult girls? I have girlfriends of my boys to buy for.

Maybe try Next beauty boxes (you can remove the outer labels that say "birthday" or "thank you". Boots also have a few advent calendars suitable for teens, younger people.

The MN beauty advent thread would be a good place to ask, the pisters on there have a wealth of knowledge https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/style_and_beauty/5407893-2025-style-and-beauty-advent-calendar-discussion-spoilers-thread-5?utm_campaign=thread&utm_medium=share

@Daisiesanddaffodils24 I’d say yes- some nice classic products in there for someone in their 20’s

If they’re late teens I don’t know if it would be considered too old though

*Pisters = posters 😁

IlovePond · 14/09/2025 10:41

@Daisiesanddaffodils24 - personally I think that box is ‘too old’ to buy as a gift for young women. Plus, unless you were going to rebox, the lettering inside and outside the packaging is just not right for the situation.

This might work:

Or this:

Also this one, but only if you know they are into Korean skincare:

If they are friends with each other, you could get two different sets so they could potentially do swaps of items if needed.

When our DS's were young we always bought their gaming things from Cex. They're reconditioned. Come with a years warranty and their customer service is really good. They have different ratings so if you went for A rating you'd still be saving money and a 7yr wouldn't know it wasn't shiney brand new! DS's are a lot older now and buy their own things but they always get phones/airpods etc from there.

It is great value. Just received mine today. Can be broken up and used as stocking fillers too IMO.

sparkle58 · 14/09/2025 11:12

Already posted this on Beauty Chat but thought it might be useful here:

CLARINS are doing Sample Sunday today, 9 free samples with every order.

Simply select 3 samples at checkout and a selection of 6 bestsellers will be added to your bag.

Think cheapest item I can see is a cleansing mousse for £11.00 so you could get this and 9 samples delivered for £12.85

Second this. We get most stuff from there. They are brilliant.
even old consoles Nintendo rarely discount

We got this one last year the best deal I found was very. If you open a very credit account it is 20% your first order and you can just pay for it straight away rather than put it on the account.
I waited last year for Black Friday and there was no better deals than this

Can anyone recommend any nice hot chocolate? I used to get hotel Chocolat in the past but not been that impressed wit them lately...

I like the Green & Black's cocoa powder. Just need to sweeten to taste.

Wolfcub · 14/09/2025 12:01

Excellent I needed stuff from Clarins anyway and using points I got free mascara, plus a free gift, plus the 9 samples - you still only get to choose three of the samples by the way

I can really recommend the Kbeauty box from Boots. It's a really lovely gift, contents are great , looks so much more expensive than it is. I bought it for my niece's birthday and she was over the moon with it

Blessedbethefruitz · 14/09/2025 12:51

@IAmLadyWhistledown We used the new customer 20% discount for credit account for our switch as it works out best even after black Friday. Paid in full by PayPal immediately as I don't do credit. Its a great time to get a switch though, the games should be plummeting in price now that the new version is out. We also buy physical cartridge games on eBay, ds6 doesn't care that they're not still in plastic, and a lot are so much cheaper there :)
