OK, so you all went on a bloody posting frenzy!

Can someone add the countdown from today to make it easier tomorrow? Thanking you!

I make 3 puddings for our dinner (which is on a day at some point after Christmas, depending on how it falls, as we have all day buffet on the day itself): traditional, a chocolate cherry one and usually some kind of cheesecake as a lighter option. I made a lovely lemon one last year which I'm tempted by again as it was so nice!

It'll be Scones, crumble and possibly lemon drizzle on boxing day
I might do a different crumble on Christmas day plus a tart of some kind?

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 28/09/2025 15:26

I like the idea of doing desserts but 99% of the time everyone is too full !

I make a trifle ( they need time to mature so if it sits in the fridge it's fine . Just takes up a load of room)

Apple crumble , I cook and freeze the apple and make up the crumble mix then freeze these separately. Quick to defrost and cook .

Steamed syrup pudding . Rather than Christmas Pudding ( which no-one likes ) it is easy to mix and I do individual ones so they cook quickly on the hob. And you get Raw Cake <bonus>

DS likes ice cream with toffee sauce and Crunchie , he's not a cooked pudding fan. DS doesn;t eat chocolate, but likes baked cheesecake .

NoWordForFluffy · 28/09/2025 15:31

We're a family of tiggies, 70. We will squeeeeeeeze dessert in, come what may! 🐷 🤣

We don't like any traditional puddings like trifle, mince pies, Christmas pudding etc

NoCheesesForUsMeeces · 28/09/2025 21:44

swamp are you me? I'm also a Covid-trained barber for DH and someone who ignores the state of my car knowing it'll definitely annoy DH first and he'll end up washing it 😂

Christmas dinner at my mums isn't Christmas without a trifle (even though she doesn't actually like them).
At ILs it's always a choice between some sort of treacle pudding and a chocolate cake type thing with an assortment or custards, creams and ice cream.

For us it's generally whatever we fancy. Differs every year that we're home.

Having LO has changed things a lot - We still don't have an actual plan for Christmas Day. I think we're avoiding it because I know DH wants to go to ILs and I want to stay home.

swampwitch0 · 28/09/2025 22:05

@NoCheesesForUsMeeces 😄
We stay at home now and if people want to, they can come to us - which they do ☺️
Christmas eve is our at home fanily day.
I don't mind so much what happens after that 🎄

Morning!

I took a - rather heavy - tumble today whilst out with the dog. Smacked my face off the ground, so that's really sore now. As are my right knee, hand and shoulder. 🙄 Thankfully it's my Monday off this week, so I don't have to work. It's a good job the dog knows his way round, as I can't even recall the first 10-15 minutes afterwards! 😩

It's lovely and sunny now. I was meant to be painting the garden fence, but for now I'm just taking it easy on the sofa.

Oh no! @NoWordForFluffy
Should you get checked out if you have some memory loss?
Lots of rest and ice on any swollen bits!
I'm just pottering about today...been to check on mum, done lots of health appointment related admin for her and dh, ironing the shirts I forgot yesterday 😬, washing, tidying...rock n roll
Dd1 is out doing supply work (no idea where today, she left early...)
Dd2 is supposed to be working on her portfolio
It's bright and sunny here today 😎

NoCheesesForUsMeeces · 29/09/2025 15:00

Swamp I would usually have no issue with doing the same as you but since LO came, DH seems to feel like we should see family but he doesn’t particularly want to host. Not sure why - I’m more than happy for people to pop in throughout the day.
Pre- LO we actually spent quite a few Christmases abroad and it was so nice and chilled. I miss it and look forward to LO being old enough for us to do that again.

Fluffy are you ok? That sounds like quite a tumble!

NoWordForFluffy · 29/09/2025 15:08

I'm OK, if you like double black eyes, a sore right knee, sore right shoulder, sore neck and a battered face. DH has bought me flowers (second time ever)! We have no vase. 🤣🤣

We stay at home and host whoever wants to come, Meeces. It's much easier that way. 🎅🏻

Hello! 🎄

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 29/09/2025 18:17

Ouch @NoWordForFluffy
that sounds painful and no doubt tomorrow you;ll find your bruises coming out in full glory and discover the areas you landed on !

FluffyDog will claim you didn;t trip over him "I'm 100% innocent" he;ll say "she tripped over fresh air/her own feet/shoelace"

My cats would happily trip me up on the stairs, whistle and make it look like a terrible accident (and blame each other as they are identical )

Join us Fawn
'tis building up nicely to the festive season ,
DD and I were going through our list of Must Watch Christmas Films / TV shows

Love Actually (Hugh Grant at his finest)
Last Christmas ( Emilia Clark)
Lost Christmas (Eddie Izzard film)

This Is Christmas ( utterly cheesy film with Alfred Enoch)

Dr Who - the Next Doctor
Inside Number 99 The Devil of Christmas
League of Gents Christmas Special

Before Hallowe'en we need to watch
Psychoville
Whitechapel

If there's ttime
Muppets Christmas Carol
Die Hard .

NoCheesesForUsMeeces · 29/09/2025 19:04

Sacrilege on the ‘if there’s time we’ll watch Muppets Christmas Carol’ 70 Xmas Shock My poor meeces with no cheeses!

Must watches for me are Muppets Christmas Carol and both Home Alone films. Lower tier must watches are the classic CCF - I quite like Christmas Land and Christmas Inn (I think that’s what it’s called) but if it has a career focused woman going home/getting stranded in a small snowy town I’m ins

Must watches for LO will be Arthur Christmas and The Grinch.
DH doesn’t have any but will sit through Elf and Nativity.

Fluffy a pint glass or a glass jug will work as a stand in vase (or in my case, a glass storage jug which was supposed to be for spaghetti.
I hope you’re feeling better soon, that sounds very painful!

For Christmas I think it’s harder now as we have almost all family nearby which was never the case before and my parents are no longer together.
All ILs lived away and we could cross my family off in one hit as my Dsis would always be at my parents.
Now half the ILs are within 15 minutes of us, my parents aren’t together and I wouldn’t get trust them in the same room together, and my Dsis has decided to stay home most Christmas days. It’s a PITA

NoCheesesForUsMeeces · 29/09/2025 19:14

Forgot to add as must watches for LO - both The Snowman and the Snowman & Snow Dog (lost count of how many times we watched those last year) and we’ve already watched some Barbie Christmas something or other 🙄

Dozymoo42 · 29/09/2025 20:30

Love Christmas films!! my faves are it’s a wonderful life , Home Alone 1&2, Scrooge the Disney version 😊 and I am quite partial to the cheesy hallmark ones!

swampwitch0 · 29/09/2025 20:40

I heartily recommend "The Knight before Christmas" on Netflix.
Absolute
cheesefest, its so bad its gooood

Oh no Fluffy that sounds awful, hope you're feeling okay today?

We watched Last train to Christmas last year which was really good and a bit different.

Yes Meeces I'm in with you on the " jilted American career woman going back to her idyllic swiss chalet village style snow clad hometown where there is some sort of traditional Christmas pageant being arranged and having an "unexpected" romance with the local hottie that she never noticed in the years she spent growing up there ". Love them. Channel 5 is brilliant for those. I will generally do my Christmas wrapping to one or three of them as you don't need to pay close attention 😂

ThatRealFawn · 30/09/2025 12:29

I must admit the Channel 5 films are almost a daily occurrence for me on the run up to Christmas! Most of the time they’re on in the background while I’m doing something else, my TV is permanently stuck on C5 in December. My favourite Christmas films are the Santa Clauses, I do love Tim Allen.

NoWordForFluffy · 30/09/2025 14:10

Thank you everyone for the good wishes. I've spent the morning in A&E, as the night's sleep aided by codeine brought out all the aches and pains, plus some corking-looking bruising, so I thought I'd better get checked out.

Good news is nothing is broken. I had x-rays and there were NBIs, so I've been sent home with strong painkillers. I'm very relieved, even though I still hurt like buggery!

If I can be stay awake (debatable!) I might stick a Christmas film on! 🎅🏻

swampwitch0 · 30/09/2025 15:57

Oh @NoWordForFluffyI'm glad you got checked out x

I felt rotten and still had a headache, so decided I should get looked at. At least I didn't lose any teeth...could've been worse!!

OP posts:
NoCheesesForUsMeeces · 30/09/2025 16:08

oh Fluffy, as a clumsy person, I hope the bruises and aches get under control soon. Glad you got checked out, always better to be safe than sorry, especially given the headache/loss of memory.

DH pointed out yesterday that I’ve got Christmas things hidden away all over the house so I need to go around and collect them, put them in one place and hide them away. May be a job for later when LO is asleep
