Brilliant news, Woolly!

Is DS off to uni? I can't quite work out how he's 18 now, when I remember him starting secondary!

Congratulations Woolly! I have been reading the A level thread - its making me nervous for GCSE results next week 😬

I am powering through the washing, I've done 7 washes over last 2 days, its getting silly. I am doing short washes though and spreading pants/socks out on garden table as run out of line/clothes horse room.

I saw an advert for Baileys Cinnamon Swirl today in Sainsbos so that might be the first thing to hit the Christmas cupboard. Actually I think I may already have a Christmas pudding in there.

Woodwanderer · 14/08/2025 14:42

To those of you who put their ornamental pumpkins out in September , when do you take them down? In time to put the Christmas decorations up? It would be nice to have them out for 3 months but I’ve normally only had them out on October .

Alevel results today and I have a happy child. Actually 2 happy children as one of DD1's pupils got an A*. Out for a celebration dinner tonight.

Congrats!!! ✨️

swampwitch0 · 14/08/2025 16:59

I've also cleaned the kitchen bin, recycling bin and tumble dryer filter today.
I've also taken tge hoover apart and cleaned it.
It really bugs me that you have to clean the things that clean things!

Congratulations Woolly. Have a great time this evening.

Still nice and quiet out , I've just taken DS to work .
Taking the car to the garage then hopefully onto Costco .
Not been there for a while buy I'm running out of things that I stock up then forget about for a while . Binbags, Astonish powder, Cadburys Dairy Milk, loo roll , olives, massive blocks of cheddar , ......and a million other things that will randomly throw themselves in the trolley !

Magnoliasunrise · 15/08/2025 08:18

Nice and quiet here too - just popped out to get a few bits. It feels like lots of people are away on holiday, love it as the roads are empty.

I've got one last wash in then I can see the bottom of the laundry basket, YEY. I'm rationing everyone to one outfit this weekend.

70 did you get DDs Greggs breakfast? I was thinking about their cheese pasties yesterday for some reason.

NoWordForFluffy · 15/08/2025 08:25

Almost everybody is away on holiday this week, judging by the number of out of office messages I'm getting at work!

It was quiet when I took the dog out at 6.30 too. We barely saw any other dogs / owners (he loves saying hello to other dogs!).

Our nearest Costcos are both a pain to get to, so we only had a year's membership and let it lapse, after only going once. If we had a nearer one, it wouldn't be so bad. Everything feels like it's a mission to get to from here, mind, thanks to our position and lack of road infrastructure to escape get anywhere fast.

Well done on the washing, Magnolia! It's no mean feat.

Congratulations to Woolly offspring! Luckily mine are well past that stage- but I do remember getting lots of support on this thread when they had GCSE and A level results.
For various reasons, work is going to be especially busy in the autumn so I have started Christmas shopping and ticked off all bar one nephew and started on stocking gifts. The Christmas vodka is infusing and I have made crab apple jelly (partly to delay tidying the pit of doom spare room.

swampwitch0 · 15/08/2025 17:19

I popped to tk maxx today unexpectedly.
I got 3 more Xmas gifts! Just small things but I was pleased.
It feels odd to see punpkins/Halloween stuff in the shops when its 28 degrees out 🫠

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 15/08/2025 19:01

No Greggs today Magnolia we had to be out and about going places.
There's some Aldi Pain au Chocolat ready to cook in the freezer .
Or I might be nice tomorrow and make pancakes .

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 15/08/2025 19:06

I had a look at the TKMaxx Hallowe'en stock , some nice mugs , set of four but I don;t need more ( can hardly fit them in the cupboard with what I have ).
Though I am convinced now - I need an Autumn Wreath (DH will roll his eyes ) and I can hang my Skellington Jack (Nightmare Before Christmas) model up for Hallowe'en itself .

Costco - it was busy so wafted by the Christmas offerings there were a few , mainly the Nutcracker and big light type .They don;t usually get going till Sept .

swampwitch0 · 15/08/2025 20:09

@70isaLimitNotaTarget
I almost bought an autumnal snoopy mug, but resisted.
I've got a cupboard full of emma bridgewater mugs that I love.
I did buy an autumnal candle though 🍁🍂😃

ConstantlyCooking · 16/08/2025 08:19

131 I am hoping to fit in trips to TK Maxx and Costco before I go back to school. We need prosaic household stuff, but I am sure so interesting oddments will ‘fall into my trolley’!

GrannyWeatherwaxsBroomstick · 16/08/2025 10:55

I love Costco, definitely spend too much there, but it is only 5 minutes away so my closest supermarket.

swampwitch0 · 16/08/2025 10:55

Off to ikea today...

I'd probably join if it was that close, but we have to travel about 40 minutes, so it's just not worth it.

IKEA is somewhere else we don't go, as we have to trek to Warrington for that. It's a mission!

DH just told me that M&S Ireland have 20% off until Wednesday (as they still haven’t managed to get online again yet!). Unfortunately they didn’t have what I wanted in store last week - but I’ll be downloading sparks app just in case they have it by Wednesday.

DH and I have decided on DD’s present, sitting over coffee this morning. Now just need to get it but plenty of time.

Exciting! What is it?

We have also been to IKEA recently. I think that for Christmas I will buy my older children a kids sofa that we saw there, it’s v expensive but I think it’s lovely

Unfortunately, I think this is my oldest child’s last year of believing in Father Christmas- even though she’s very young. Because she has two friends who have told her that it is your parents , which I am rather upset about.

I was looking today at some A/W fashion ( I know it seems madness as it is tropical here and everyone is pootling about in vests/shorts ) , I can see a lot of chocolate brown in the shops which is nice as it;s kinder that black and it isn't the Must Have Wine Red from last year.

I saw a skirt online (but it wasn't instore ) might order that .

Once the schools go back the shops will be quieter and I can start buying some things to put away .
DD has given me a couple of ideas ( isn't she a good girl Xmas Grin ) makes her present buying easier .
I bought some lipbalms for her Dec 1st Box and I might buy socks for DS when I buy the skirt .

I made soup with some of my tomatoes , delicious .

BiddyPopthe2nd · 17/08/2025 09:11

Yulebeback she wants a pair of Birkenstock clogs - the closed toe style. And they will suit the style she’s moving towards generally.

The plans for yesterday evolved over the day - DH didn’t really want to do his real work, so new lights were put up and the ivy covering the back wall in the garden got its 2-yearly trim (he really does need a 2nd pair of hands for both). I did make more progress in my papers pile as well. So I am somewhat stiff and sore today. Supposed to be going to a retirement drinks tonight, but I am wiped out, so need to try and get a nap later.

BiddyPopthe2nd · 17/08/2025 09:12

(DD turns 20 over Christmas so is actually somewhat harder to buy for nowadays).
