OK, so you all went on a bloody posting frenzy!

Can someone add the countdown from today to make it easier tomorrow? Thanking you!

Gym this morning, then I'm going to cover some dining room chairs.this evening we are going to watch The Thunderbolts on Disney+

Really enjoyed thunderbolts...

NoWordForFluffy · 06/09/2025 21:44

OK...where the hell does all the bloody washing come from?! I just put the washing away from the last few days and there was a ridiculous amount! Aided by it being an amazing drying day today, so everything washed this morning is dry and put away already. The afternoon's wash is on the line and can stay there now! Neither of us will be getting it in, as we can't be arsed. 🤣

DH has been doing some of the final bits in the bathroom today (we've put a shower in over the bath); just a couple more little jobs to go until it's finished.

I want to paint the bathroom tomorrow, plus it's bathroom(s) cleaning day as well. Rock'n'roll weekend all round!

Oh, I hear you @NoWordForFluffy
I think there must be people living here I've never met! (Borrowers?)
I'm shattered.
Dd1s bf is here this weekend.
Dd2 is mooing about when she should be doing work for college.
I'm just too tired to cajole atm 😔

NoCheesesForUsMeeces · 06/09/2025 22:17

Definitely with you on the washing here too Fluffy. When it was just me and DH it was 2 loads per week - essentially work clothes in one, PJs, towels, underwear in another and an extra one every other week for bedding if it didn’t fit with the towels.
We’ve added one child and it was initially at least a load every other day but since the potty training it’s been a load per day plus ad-hoc ones when there’s accidents (I literally washed every pair of pants, shorts and shoes who owned over the course of the first week 😩). I can’t keep up with it - and we don’t have a dryer.

Not a very rock & roll weekend going on here either. Housework and a walk today, plus a trip into the attic to put the fans away and pull down my winter WFH stuff (a wrap, foot warmer, blanket etc).
Tomorrow I think we’re going to see my dm and there will be more cleaning, and may be gardening if I can motivate myself. Exciting stuff.

Christmas-wise, I did buy a bundle of stuff on Vinted for LO today - 2 jumpers, a tshirt and 2 pairs of Pjs, all Christmas themed Xmas Grin

I am sure my laundry baskets are breeding grounds , if I could sell them to a zoo they could pop them into their Rare Animal Enclosures and they;d be knee deep in exotics !

I did a white towels load , light delicates , my work cloths are in now .
Yesterday was dark non delicates ( DS gym stuff , underwear , socks )

I have to do DH T Shirts then I;ll have a dark delicates .

And somewhere I need to fit in the monthly clean maintenance wash ( did the DW yesterday ) .

If I turn my back , it;s like the Dr Who Weeping Angels . They are suddenly empty to full .

I feel a recycling even upon me . I need to clear the rail in the little room for my coats ( in the attic ) when they come down . And put my summer clothes away .
But there's loads of DH clothes that need sorted out . I often take any scruffy ones out and recycle , he doesn;t notice .

Into the hundred and single figures Xmas Grin

I have ordered a couple of things for DD ( earrings and a nail polish .)
I made a start on DS Dec 1st Box . TShirt that he wears at night . I always get him some of those graphic design TShirts and some leisure trousers . He;s not a pyjama wearer .
I'll look in Next for his socks/underwear and sports shop for gym socks .

Magnoliasunrise · 07/09/2025 08:17

Morning.

I'm with you all on the washing, its absolutely crazy. I do think my DC and DH put stuff in the wash that isn't dirty or smelly though just because they can't be arsed to hang it back up.

I went to the garden centre yesterday and if any of you are near a Hillier garden centre they've got a fabulous plant sale on. I got some fuschia for £3 (reduced from £12), salvia for £5 (reduced from £15) and weigela for £7 (reduced from £20) - the guy at the till said loads more coming in on Thursday coz they are clearing out the nurseries. It's still a good time to plant as the soil is warm and ages before Winter.

Washing about to go out and an enormous pile of ironing shouting me.

swampwitch0 · 07/09/2025 09:58

Our local garden centre/nursery closed (literally stopped trading overnight..) so its a bit of a trek now and even though we went to one yesterday thegvobly had around half a dozen quite poor rose shrubs.
So, David Austin to the rescue (its a gift)
Re: stockings; my dd always get fancy/brand name knickers, fancy soaps/shower gels, face oils, cleansers and earrings.
Dd1 loves unusual t shirts/hoodies so I get a lot from redbubble and geeknation.
Books are always given.
Dd1 is easy - in fact I'm pretty much done for her.
Dd2 is trickier...I've only got her 1 book so far 😬

NoWordForFluffy · 07/09/2025 11:27

I'd have those type of things as additional presents in the sack, not stocking gifts, @swampwitch0. Our stockings aren't huge, so I'm on the look out for little things to go into them (along with many different forms of chocolate / sweets!).

I love seeing how we all do Christmas differently!

It's raining here now. I got the washing in about 2 minutes before it started. That's me peaked for today. 🤣

That's why we do the Dec 1st Boxes @NoWordForFluffy Xmas Grin

My DS is a Dec Birthday too (so thinking of two lots of presents )

DD likes some branded clothes ( CK / VS type ) underwear .
And she likes to use her new beauty items throughout December . She's less bothered about having a load of presents on the day . And it;ll be things she's chosen (either sends me a link or when we go out )
Her Dec 1st Box things I can choose so she has a surprise .

DS wouldn;t consider clothes and loungwear as a present but it needs replaced (actually I wouldn't want a load of socks'n;pants as a present unless I asked for them ).

When they were little the stocking on the bed was to keep them busy on Christmas morning at 5am . And the Christmas Eve Hampers to wind them down in the evening . (Though many people on MN hate them ! )

NoCheesesForUsMeeces · 07/09/2025 18:55

We’re still figuring out how we’ll be doing Christmas. LO is still young so last year a stocking with a magnifying glass, superhero mask, chocolate, flip book, plasters (don’t ask) and a yoyo was plenty, but he was totally overwhelmed by the amount downstairs.
This year I’m thinking similar for stocking and just less overall.

I didn’t do any gardening, the rain has been non stop all day. Dm treated us to a pub roast which was really nice and aside from that we’ve been alternating cleaning and playing.

It’s the proper start of my new 4 day week tomorrow and I feel weird knowing it’s a work day but I’m not working. I’m sure I’ll get used to it 🙄

swampwitch0 · 07/09/2025 18:59

There would be revolution in this house if we didn't do stockings 😃
There will be fewer parcels downstairs this year as I genuinely have no idea what to get them and - thankfully - they want for nothing 💙

We do do stockings. But they don't have stuff in like yours. The kind of thing you listed would be additional sack presents. Stocking gifts in our house are low value / small things which fit into a normal sized stocking! Much like the stocking Meeces did for her LO.

We would also be less than popular with no stockings!

Ooooh @NoWordForFluffy I don;t know if you drift into the Style&Beauty threads but the ones about the Beauty Advent Calendars are an eye opener !

<<Disclaimer : I am not stylish but in a dim light I am beautiful not likely to scare horses >>
<<Disclaimer 2: People can spend their money however the Jeff they like >>

The High End Calendars , the ones that cost £400 and contain £1,000 value of product . A daily gift (like a perfume , a face cream , high end eyeshadow type ) would be a stand alone gift , not a drawer filler .
I know for some people this will be their present from their DH or DSister . Or just a To Me From Me present .
But people get so jaded "What another Elasticiser / Ren cream/ black mascara " and do swaps or eBay .

It really puts the pressure on the retailers . And a shed load of wasted packaging !

I wouldn't dare comment , I;d get my hands and head to play with Xmas Grin

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 07/09/2025 20:15

If I gave my son a wedge of money and a Cadbury Selection Box I;d be Mum of the Year Grin

swampwitch0 · 07/09/2025 21:14

Re: beauty advent calendars...
I got a next one a couple of years ago and really liked it, I it shared with dds.
But, we are still using some of the stuff...like body mist, hair masks..so won't be getting another this year.
I also don't give gift cards anymore (costa, Waterstones, cinema etc) as they just get shoved in a drawer and forgotten here 🙄
In fact, dd1 had a cineworld gift card from 2 years ago and the company have gone bust!.
Sigh...I love a book token 📚😊

Evening!

Today was a strange day. Long and not productive! And I'm in the office tomorrow, so will be even less productive. I'm glad it's only once a week!

It's been dry today. Bit chilly where the sun isn't on you though. The washing got dry though (our towels and the light Christmas towels / tea towels). I appear to have MANY of these. I'm curious as to why so many of the Christmas tea towels are fun size though! Xmas Confused Decorative more than functional, I feel!

OP posts:
70isaLimitNotaTarget · 08/09/2025 19:13

I do have Christmas tea-towels ( now there's a surprise!) but they're red/white stripe candy cane . So 'festive' rather than Christmas

I bought a couple of Hallowe'en dishtowels , black cats .

swampwitch0 · 08/09/2025 20:05

Lots of washing done today.
I'm watching Netflix, with a Fluffy blanket on in front of my fireplace complete with fairylights ✨️

Magnoliasunrise · 08/09/2025 20:54

Sounds cozy Swamp.

I've also got lots of christmas tea towels but I need to sort them out as I think some of them are stained from mopping up red wine!!!

DavidKeanu · 08/09/2025 21:03

I've bought some Sesame Street Christmas wrapping paper from Typo and I'm so pleased with it. 😁

Morning!

It's definitely feeling autumnal, hung some washing out at 6.45am and it was CHILLY.

Started back at work yesterday and the school I was at (I move around) was near an Aldi!! Yippeee so I managed to get the Lacura moisturiser and the Poppy and Barley perfume. Cheap as chips.

That wrapping paper is very cute but sadly my DC past cute wrapping now.

NoWordForFluffy · 09/09/2025 07:27

Morning!

Office day today, so I'm currently on a train. Definitely cooler / autumnal today. The early morning light is more orange as well.

I still managed to overheat on my walk to the station though. Sodding peri!
