Christmas starts next month

I know I can’t be the only one excited about the fact that we’re now in July, which means all those Christmas goodies will start sneaking their way on to the shelves at the end of august (admittedly a little prematurely). 😜

Now I have a child I absolutely love Christmas again, and I hated it for years. That, combined with the fact it’s been too hot for all of us to get a good nights sleep I’m a little more excited than I should be at the prospect of a Christmas countdown.

This is exactly why Christmas is the only board I have hidden.

It's horrendous that Christmas starts this early. I don't like to see anything related to it until Advent. Which this year is 30 November.

JifNtGif · 01/07/2025 07:33

What? You have some serious issues OP

MissEloiseBridgerton · 01/07/2025 07:33

This is insane. Christmas does not need a 5 month lead time FFS. At least let summer end before starting on Christmas.

stealthninjamum · 01/07/2025 07:35

There are so many threads to comment on, why pick this one?

op, ignore The Grinches. My kids are teens now so Christmas is less exciting but I used to love doing the Christmas preparation- even in August!

Op, you might want to get this moved to the Christmas board.

minnienono · 01/07/2025 07:36

I haven’t had my summer holiday yet! I don’t consider Christmas until the clocks go back!

LindorDoubleChoc · 01/07/2025 07:41

Put it in the correct topic ffs.

Me too (re hiding the board) and yet it doesn't work because of stupid threads like this!

AbzMoz · 01/07/2025 07:44

Aug seems far FAR too early, IMO, but each to their own. As my birthday is in Nov, we do have a family ‘rule’ to ignore Christmas until after that. In reality we will end up buying goodies, going to Chistmas markets, and having a few festive drinks/dinners before it, which I will (very much jokingly!) complain about (often as I’m guzzling a mince pie).

u3ername · 01/07/2025 07:46

The only point of Christmas is to cheer you up during the coldest, darkest month of the year.
You are spoiling summer and Christmas, and everything in between, starting it now.

Tweetypie30 · 01/07/2025 07:50

I saw some Christmas cards in a National Trust gift shop yesterday. It’s far too early!

But it's clearly from the title what this is about so why not just ignore? I hate all the chat about the royals so have that board hidden. I just ignore any rogue royal threads in chat.

MidSumner · 01/07/2025 07:51

Im pleased you find happiness in it, however, could you share your happiness on the Christmas board?!!!

it would help if MN followed their own 'rules'.

most of us don't want to think about Christmas or winter in a heatwave on the 1st of JULY.

Because it's a perfectly legitimate response to a thread that is so untimely to point out that there is a board specifically for this so OP can get it moved over there.

I hardly ever see anything about the royal family except on that board as it goes.

Bjorkdidit · 01/07/2025 08:14

There's no reason for Christmas to start until after Bonfire Night IMHO.

If people need to 'spread the cost' there's always the option of saving up, plus quite likely reducing what you buy - if it feels like a financial burden (or too much of an effort) then you're probably spending/doing a lot more than necessary.

LittleCosette · 01/07/2025 08:19

What about enjoying the here and now in your LO’s life instead of wishing it away for Christmas?

ObtuseMoose · 01/07/2025 08:22

Give over. Christmas begins and ends in December.

annzen · 01/07/2025 08:48

I love your enthusiasm to get excited in July. If it brings you joy, what the heck, go for it!

I go away around 15th December and back mid January or so (retired now), to somewhere that while Christmas is celebrated, it is very low key and uncommercialised. Good weather too. Nothing would keep me here over the season. But each to their own.

HarrietBond · 01/07/2025 08:52

I absolutely love Christmas but I don’t want it to start in summer. It only feels special if it’s a December thing, otherwise I’m bored of it and also somehow stressed. I do buy things over the autumn to spread the cost and when I see them, as I have a few children, but I don’t see that as a real part of actually enjoying the season.!

Sarah2891 · 01/07/2025 08:56

WTH.
If it was up to me Christmas mentions and items in shops would be banned until November.

nessiethecat · 01/07/2025 08:56

I don’t understand. The topic of this post is clear from the title so if you don’t want to think about Christmas just keep scrolling! Embrace what brings you joy OP

Well, not really. The title could as easily be leading to a complaint about it. And it's in a general discussion board so open to, well, general discussion.

People have opinions on it, which is to call op’s post ridiculous.
Op’s allowed to post what she wants and people are allowed to tell her it’s preposterous.

That’s how individuality in civil society really works - not by ignoring the nonsense.

Thedevilwearsprimarni · 01/07/2025 10:32

haha, some of you are a bit touchy. Getting so angry about this being in chat and not Christmas. There’s all sorts of shit on this site I can’t be arsed with so I just scroll. Would take you far less time to do that then write your little pissy messages getting yourselves all worked up.

ho no ho.

You’ve taken what I said and created a very strange fiction based on nothing. Odd
