Christmas starts next month

I know I can’t be the only one excited about the fact that we’re now in July, which means all those Christmas goodies will start sneaking their way on to the shelves at the end of august (admittedly a little prematurely). 😜

Now I have a child I absolutely love Christmas again, and I hated it for years. That, combined with the fact it’s been too hot for all of us to get a good nights sleep I’m a little more excited than I should be at the prospect of a Christmas countdown.

What about enjoying the here and now in your LO’s life instead of wishing it away for Christmas?

You think I should take him out of the cupboard I keep him in then?

I dont do Xmas so I have none of the angst about what to buy people i dont like or buy enough food to stock a food bank.
I used to but not any more.

You’ve taken what I said and created a very strange fiction based on nothing. Odd

Merely trying to preempt it whataboutery.

If you dare to say that Christmas shopping wait until umm, near Christmas, then there's the inevitable 'your privilege is showing, some people can't afford to pay for all the crap that most people don't want everything from one or two pay packets'.

Cynic17 · 01/07/2025 11:10

No it doesn't - it starts on 24th December, just like it always has, FFS.

nessiethecat · 01/07/2025 11:15

@u3ernameOf course people can post about whatever they want and reply to whatever they want. I don’t think they should be replying if they only have negative, rude things to say. Surely all this sunshine is making people feel happier and friendlier. I can’t understand pissing all over something that brings someone else joy like this.

BIWI · 01/07/2025 11:19

Are you being deliberately goady @Thedevilwearsprimarni? Because I can’t see any other reason for starting a Christmas thread now, that’s not in the Christmas topic!

Are you going to tell us all to #BeKind now?

CCmumsnet · 01/07/2025 11:28

We have moved this thread to the Christmas board for other Christmas loving MNers to enjoy!🎄

nessiethecat · 01/07/2025 11:30

@BIWINope, go ahead, enjoy being miserable

NuffSaidSam · 01/07/2025 11:31

You're a bit late to the party OP. We've had the tree up since mid-June!

We're a week in to our 6 month advent calendars already.

Please tell me you have your son's 6 month advent calendar at least?

HundredPercentUnsure · 01/07/2025 11:31

Talking about Christmas whilst in this heat, are you Aussie?

I’m not miserable at all! Just think it’s daft expecting everyone to post sunshine and unicorns. Or to be told such.

There's also nothing miserable about enjoying the seasons and the passing of time as it comes and not wishing the year away to a time that is still 5 months away from being relevant.

holysmokee · 01/07/2025 12:20

See I’m not at all mad about your post, I think if it makes you happy that’s cute, but as someone that loves the holidays and celebrations in general (especially with kids) you’re missing out on so much if you’re skipping straight to Christmas!

Our plans look like:

International friendship day on the 2nd of August- I celebrate this to the nth degree. Party or play date, gifts for friends and generally celebrating our friendships.

Summer bank holiday and summer holiday in general- Garden party, BBQs, summer activity day.

Decorating for autumn- making everywhere feel cozy and warm when the leaves start to fall.

Diwali- We always go and witness the celebrations even if not actively celebrating.

Halloween- Christmas doesn’t start until Halloween week is over and there’s been a short rest for me. Go all out on Halloween if you’re too excited for Christmas, it’s sooner!

Pre advent- buying presents, sorting decorations, lights, booking seasonal events etc.

and then it’s time for advent, Christmas and new year.

HarrietBond · 01/07/2025 12:55

I agree. Not that I celebrate some of the above! But there’s nothing wrong with saying that a five month Christmas doesn’t fill you with joy. I love it and I like it to be special and for me that means it’s relatively short lived. Between then and and now there are lots of other things to enjoy.

RainbowZebraWarrior · 01/07/2025 12:58

I just had this thought this morning as I went to my local shopping park.

My Spiced Shortbread will arrive in M&S on around 1st September.

Also, I bought loads of stuff in the H&M summer sale and was pleased to note that a load of plum / burgundy and black more autumn / wintry looking clothes were being put on the shelves.

Hurrah!!

Wheelz46 · 01/07/2025 13:12

Well I am excited OP, done my kids list last month ready to start ordering and hiding stuff 🎅🙌

How the fuck is it goady? Honestly if someone saying they are happy and looking forward to something bothers you then that's very clearly more about you than me.

If in January I start a post saying count down to my summer holiday in July starts here, is that going to upset you for being goady too?

Shit, I don't. Haven't even started getting the lights on the house yet.

I've let my child out of the cupboard so he can have a glimpse of sunshine but I'll pop him back in again soon and get online to buy advent calendars.

OP posts:
Thedevilwearsprimarni · 01/07/2025 13:20

Not going to lie, it's actually making me laugh how people genuinely seem to think my poor child is not getting to experience the joy of summer and everything in between, just because I've said I'm looking forward to Christmas.

If only you could see my camera roll, this kid isn't missing a thing.

Painrelief · 01/07/2025 13:20

I hate how the seasonal stuff moves in the uk . It’s 30c outside but you can struggle to get a pair of shorts come end of July coz they’ve all been out since March yet you can buy a Christmas card and the Halloween shop will be open ? Ridiculous.

Longtimeloiterer · 01/07/2025 13:22

You might wait until after the school hols and the outlay for school uniforms. That in itself does for the budgets of a lot of people.

Not to mention the kids will change their minds as to what's popular over the holidays too

glittereyelash · 01/07/2025 14:09

I'm the opposite I used to adore christmas and now I simply can't stand it. Something awful happens every year. Enjoy the excitement all who still get that Christmas buzz!

FountainofTruth · 01/07/2025 18:41

I'm excited too OP. Booked panto last month as there was limited availability left. I've had emails in the last couple of weeks inviting to book up for light trails and early access to book Father Christmas. We aren't doing either this year but I have booked a few days holidays in December already. I'll admit I've also had a look at availability for a lodge in Scotland over Christmas, never done this but always fancied the idea. I do like to plan somethings in advance (I've already booked a getaway for 2026).
