Does anyone know whether suitcases will be heavily discounted on the amazon prime day sale? (Random, sorry)

Also, I'm thinking of buying a real Christmas tree this year (first ever!) - how long do they last please? If we go away over Christmas, will it develop mould and maggots?

Sorry 🙈

InbetweenDreams · 05/07/2025 23:18

@youreactinglikeafunmum real trees 2-3 weeks max. I’d usually aim to get one about a week before Christmas and keep it up for the 12 days of. If you’re the type to take it down sooner you might get away with getting one earlier, but if you’re away till early Jan I wouldn’t get earlier than a week before!

@Sideorderofchips I’ve got a fair few bits, especially for the kids. Nothing for the grown ups yet and nobody is finished.

Well done @Tooteefrootee! I think you’re probably winning haha

No it won’t go mouldy, but if you don’t water it regularly (every 2/3 days at least), it will die and drop all its needles.

We normally get our real tree up by 1st December and it lasts no problem until it comes down on 5th Jan. We usually go Fraser fir, but had either a nordmann fir or Norwegian spruce last year (I can’t remember which unfortunately)

Get a nordman fir. We always get one first weekend of December and don't take it down until after new year. We'll water it once or twice in that time if it's running low. Very few needles drop compared to traditional Christmas trees too.

That being said if we were going to be away for any length of time over Christmas I wouldn't bother getting a real tree if I wasn't there to make the most of it. Our 8ft usually costs about £65.

Aw can’t believe I missed the Aldi offer! I literally shop there every week 🫣😭🤣 yes Christmas or November birthday but will hold out for Black Friday thanks for the heads up! 💛

Beauty bay also has some laneige bits on sale, and quite a good range of other things.

If you're buying Fenty, their website has quite regular decent sales.

ruralwanderer · 06/07/2025 08:21

I've not started yet 🙈 No clue what to get for either child as they've not long had birthdays and they've both had a new bike this year as they cycle to school and had outgrown their previous ones.

TheWeeDonkeyFella · 06/07/2025 09:15

@youreactinglikeafunmum if you would like to keep a tree going after Christmas either directly in the garden or a pot outside, buy a potted 'pot grown' tree. This means the tree roots are intact in the pot it's been grown in.

Mom2manykids · 06/07/2025 10:13

Anybody else hoping for some good prime day deals?

Where are you buying an 8ft tree for £65 please? In my part of london, it's over 100 😭

Nordman fir, thanks x

Okay, will have to Google how to water 😭

Thank you - that's the main thing, I dont mind it getting dry but didnt wanna come home to all sorts in my flat!

Will remember to take lights off the tree as it can be a fire hazard

Super excited about it actually - i mean the price for a good quality fake one from balsam Hill is a few hundred - and i just thought, this way i can have the proper Christmas experience with dd and pay just over 100 for a real one

Plus its collected for free, as long as I cut it in half 🤷‍♀️

ChristmasMad1 · 06/07/2025 10:37

I know this is a Christmas thread but it's my uncles 50th in a few weeks! Budget is up to £50 not sure what to buy. Likes Manchester United, already done the tour etc. also likes fishing and has all the equipment. Any suggestions?

A long way outside of London.

It's the natural Christmas tree company - near the border with Wales.

watchuswreckthemic · 06/07/2025 11:05

@ChristmasMad1does he drink? What about a nice whiskey or bourbon set?

watchuswreckthemic · 06/07/2025 11:06

@Mom2manykidsi am! Mainly for inspiration all although I am looking for a digital photo frame for my mum

😅 I won't embarrass myself by asking for delivery

I think that the price is reasonable tbh, the amount I was gonna spend on a good quality fake one, plus having to store it every year - might as well treat me and dd 🥰

He likes a beer now and again but he doesn't drink much unless out with his mates

Whatthecluckingcluck · 06/07/2025 12:28

@watchuswreckthemic they aren’t the cheapest but the Aura photo frames are fab.
We now have 5 of them as a family, and they have all been brought since last year.

Poonu · 06/07/2025 13:00

@Whatthecluckingcluck so you recommend any particular frame? Do they ever go on offer?

Yes, I bought two small trees from Tesco for by the front door and they're enjoying life in their pots outside. Currently going through a growth spurt!

(If you have them indoors, don't put them near radiators / heat sources, as they won't be happy with this even with roots.)

TheWeeDonkeyFella · 06/07/2025 13:53

I've a couple in the garden that I just repot into slightly bigger pots each year too @NoWordForFluffy Then come Christmas time add a string of battery lights and they're decorations again! (outdoors, I don't bring them back inside after that year).

Yes hoping for Yoto but not sure Amazon is the best place to find it; last year my two were too young for it and I skipped past all the info and now I’m trying to remember where the best deals are 😬

youreactinglikeafunmum · 06/07/2025 13:57

What are people buying their 6 year old children this year, what's the 'in' gift? x
