@WimbyAcei ordered 2 of the crayola sets. They arrived yesterday and are massive. Ive had to put them in the loft to store!

Thanks, it is a twin party so should work as a joint present I think 👍🏻

Hello hoping someone can help me with an idea for a friends birthday (this thread has saved me before!) She is in her late forties expensive taste, fairly traditional, loves dresses, big fan of a facials but has local person who goes to fortnightly to have, also loves her adult kids and her dog! Previous presents which have gone down well gluggle jug, posh pjs, exxy smellies - anyone got any genius thoughts please? 🙏

I saw this book recently, I put it in my basket thinking it would be perfect for my friend who sounds very similar to yours. Unfortunately the hard copy has now sold out, my friend would love it as a coffee table book. I still think the paperback would be good.

ive also bought her hard back fashion books on icons like Chanel, Dior etc.

My friends a bit like this so we get her vouchers for her favourite facial place

There’s a sale on at Emma Bridgewater pottery and there are some mugs down to £8 from £25. Some Empress Grey Tea & a couple of mugs would be lovely.

Edited

That's a good call. I got this for my SIL (similar to OP's friend) and it went down well.

Thanks @Sideorderofchips . I was only thinking yesterday I need t go through the resent cupboard and start planning Christmas. I was even considering starting my wrapping in the summer holidays to have a less stressful autumn/winter!

Many moons ago when I was pregnant I knew baby was going to come early end of August/into September. Didn’t know if baby would be in hospital for weeks so I had everything bought, wrapped and labelled by the end of July.
So no harm or shame in doing it.
My only tip is use sellotape, actual branded sellotape as other inferior ones (and esp the sticky circles) don’t last for months so they ‘unwrap’ themselves.
((And daughter is now nearly 18, only spent 10 days in hospital so it wasn’t necessary but meant I didn’t have to do Christmas shopping with baby!)).

I’m currently doing the same thing.. not for those reasons though.
my baby is being delivered early in August if I make it that far so we don’t know what our hospital stay will be like… what I do know is I may not be out before the older children go back to school.

so to help everyone out I have pretty much done everything already in terms of getting them ready to go back, birthdays and basically just doing everything now because of the unknown just in case.

That's a great tip - thank you.

And if we’re talking sellotape, let me once again extol the virtues of a sellotape dispenser. It’s been cheaper and probably will be again but I’d happily pay double - you will genuinely wonder how (or why) you ever did without one at home.

This exact model has changed my life. No joke. No exageration. Seeing you link it made me think maybe I need a back up just in case?! That level of commitment.

Wildlynx · 30/06/2025 21:53

Mountain warehouse 20% off MWSS68. Worked on the sale item I tried as well as full price.

Yalz · 01/07/2025 00:05

Boots has some baby outfits at 70% off, which might make good presents.

I can’t link them, but search under “Sale” and they appear.

Slater22 · 01/07/2025 07:12

Thank you all so much so many amazing ideas - this thread is so helpful ❤️ 🙏

If you like the idea of coffee table books, Costco does a range of them https://www.costco.co.uk/Home-Kitchen/Books/The-Catwalk-Collection-by-Thames-Hudson-in-5-Options-YSL-Chanel-Dior-Chloe-or-Louis-Vuitton/p/514736

New lines added to the george asda sale. Just been into my local and it was carnage! Women working together with their prams blocking the rails so they could get full lines of items.....no doubt to sell on! I don't like that type of greediness, much prefer this thread with lovely chat and sharing bargains!

Do people really make enough money doing that for it to be worth their while?

I couldn't believe what i was seeing honestly! They prob think though even making just £2 per tracksuit (for example) one woman easily had 20, so that's a profit of £40. I couldn't be bothered with the hassle to be honest.

I saw that once right at the end of the M&S sale in Oxford. It was back in the day when they reduced things a lot just to be rid, and everything was marked down to 50p - things were never that cheap where I lived.

My experience was almost the same as yours, but the rails were blocked off by shopping trolleys from the Food Hall downstairs and two shoppers were just dumping loads of things in there and preventing others from getting close.

I love a bargain, but couldn’t be bothered with that.

Yalz · 01/07/2025 15:01

John Lewis has further reductions on some of its sale stuff. There’s a lot under the Gift tab which might be suitable for Christmas.

Sone good bargains in womenswear, too. I have just ordered a dress for £16 which was £55 and a top for £18 which was £59.

They still have the annoying thing where lots of the cheapest things are delivered from store only, with postage at £4:50, and I can’t work out if it’s possible to order more than one of those - not even two spools of the same ribbon. I’ve noticed that in haberdashery and kitchenware, but I’ve not really looked anywhere else. I suppose that’s why they are still available to buy. This may mean it’s worth a trip to your local store, if you have one.
