Evening!

I'm tired after today, but the buffet was a success. Tomorrow it's dinner!

Everyone seems to love their gifts, which is always good. 😊 Bed soon as it's all go again from the morning!

192 we spent yesterday digging the foundations for a greenhouse. Not the right day, but we only hired the electric sieve for the weekend.
DS cooked burgers on the BBQ with DH so that was good and I made some cheesecake ice cream.

NoCheesesForUsMeeces · 16/06/2025 11:39

Another one here who’s in a never ending Groundhog Day. I feel like I spend my life planning cooking for a 3yo, cleaning the kitchen and picking things up from one place and putting them away 😩

Im doing some KIT days soon and I’m so weirdly nervous. I don’t know why, where I work is great, the people I work with and for are lovely and flexible but I feel like I have first day nerves.
I’m also unexpectedly spending a lot of time wishing we could win lots of money so I wouldn’t need to go back. I don’t get it, I like my job and I’m not cut out to be at home full time at all! Confused

It is like Hades in my car , Temp gauge getting to 28 c Xmas Shock

I will whinge when I have to leave home 10 minutes early to defrost the windscreen and drive to and from work in the pitch dark. ( something along the lines of pit ponies see more daylight than I do !)

Same here 70!! My car read 29 degrees yesterday.

DS, who has finished his GCSE's and is basically alternating between lying in the garden, eating and wandering the streets with his buddies, said "isn't this weather fantastic?" I thought "its not that fantastic when you're stuck in a stuffy school with not a single breath of air"

And its going to get hotter 😓

NoWordForFluffy · 18/06/2025 08:30

The good thing about the 'grim' north is that we do tend to be a few degrees cooler than the south! So it's warm here (and clammy!) but not near to 30°. Yet!

I do die a hot death running with the dog, mind you!

Boiling here too and I’m on the train on the way back from my KIT day in the office. Was nice
to go in but commuting in this heat is just horrible 🥵 26° today and going up to 29° tomorrow and Friday so I’ll be hiding indoors.

Plus side to the heat/sun is that my strawberries and cucumbers are going great guns in the garden and I’ll hopefully get some tomatoes soon too 🤞🏼

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 18/06/2025 18:18

Our tomatoes are doing well too Meeces they just need to redden , not all all the same time of course , a few a day then I pick some fresh off the vine .

Some of our clinics are so hot ( and I;m in PPE which doesn;t help!) I need to keep drinking water or I;ll just dehydrate like a little prune .

TheWoollybacksWife · 18/06/2025 19:13

This is what's waiting for me on Saturday. The upside is that the laundry baskets are pretty much empty, the downside is that I don't have much energy.

Ho ho ho...here we go round again! Countdown to Christmas 2025, thread 1
NoWordForFluffy · 18/06/2025 19:41

I have lots and lots of baby tomatoes on my vines, which is good. Far more than the total number I 'achieved' last year. I'm looking forward to them growing and ripening.

My bought chilli plants are pathetic though, so I'm not sure I'll get any this year.

We've been doing loads of washing while the weather is good. I do love an empty washing basket!

Morning y'all
Took DS to work and got breakfast (Greggs Tradition)
Washing in the machine , and after my coffee I will galvanise myself to do some tidying .
Trip to Costco later - no Christmas Stock (yet Xmas Grin ) but come September , they're in full sail . !

Stompythedinosaur · 20/06/2025 09:37

Hey, can I join?

The weather is hot and yet my thoughts are turning to Christmas planning! I feel a bit behind, I'm usually an all year planner, but it's been a busy few months.

I've just had a new Christmas cardigan arrived. It's one I couldn't justify the cost of new before Christmas, so I've got second hand now. I'm very pleased! I wore it around the house yesterday, just to admire it.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 20/06/2025 10:17

Welcome @Stompythedinosaur

Love the Christmas Cardigan Bargain !
I was eyeing up a "Nightmare Before Christmas" bedsheet on the George at Asda site ( I know there's "Christmas" in the title but it is a Hallowe'en film IMO )
She could use it for a couple of weeks in October (every year for the next thirty years )

Sooooooooo throw your hat in the ring :
Die Hard Christmas Film or Not Christmas Film.?

Lights the touch paper and tiptoes away ............

NoWordForFluffy · 20/06/2025 10:22

There is only one right answer to the Die Hard question (and it's not the one Meeces will give, but we let her stay anyway!). Xmas Grin

I mean, any film is a Christmas film if you want it to be! Lord of the Rings is a Christmas film in our house because we always watch it at Christmas!

But agree the Nightmare Before Christmas is a Halloween film!

Well , yes , I mean what is more Christmassey than John McClane climbing down a chimney ( air conditioning tunnel) bearing gifts (A lighter ? Thanks John but I don;t actually smoke )
In a vest .

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 20/06/2025 16:13

That was quick . The moderators must click on it and think "FFS HIM again" on the Christmas Countdown.

NoWordForFluffy · 20/06/2025 19:11

A soon-to-become dirty vest at that.

I believe @Stompythedinosaur sat on the fence a wee bit there re Die Hard! 🤔 Xmas Grin

Still the "Booths Christmas Book" ( for non softy Southerners ) , The Snowman LooRoll and Sainsbury Bakery Shortcrust Mince Pies to consider ......Xmas Wink

NoCheesesForUsMeeces · 20/06/2025 21:20

Thanks Fluffy - I'm amazed I haven't been thrown off the thread yet but there's no changing my mind Xmas Grin Although my sister considers Chitty Chitty Bang Bang to be a Christmas film because she's watched it every December since she was little (another film I'm not a fan of).

I can't think about Christmas right now. I'm perimenopausal and the heat is causing hot flushes and a lot of redundant rage here. Oh and of course hay fever and migraines so my focus is on getting through the heatwave and out the other side without being too outwardly miserable 🥵🙄

DH has just told me it's the hottest day of the year (so far) , ..thank you DH.
He cut the lawn yesterday evening so the garden looks nice now . I did some passive weeding (bindweed , it's a bugger)

Hopefully all the animals from horses to hamsters and everything in between are keeping cool . Our MaleCat has taken himself off to his hideyspace in the borders where he;s cool and protected .

FluffyDog will be out at daft o'clock then flump in a shadey spot Xmas Grin

IDareSay · 21/06/2025 08:40

The cooling beds for my dogs are being delivered today so expect the end of this hot weather forthwith.

NoWordForFluffy · 21/06/2025 08:51

Yep, we've been out and we're now back, chilling in the garden before it's too hot! I just tried to brush him a bit, but he wasn't having any of it! I still got a fair amount of fur off him for the birdies to use!

We have a cooling mat for FluffyDog, which he slept on last night.

The sheet / bedspread combo has worked a treat. Neither of us have been over-hot the last few nights (it was 25° in our room when we went to bed last night!).
