Out of interest when do you eat the sausage rolls? Boxing Day?

We like to do a bit of a buffet dinner on Christmas Eve so most of them get polished off then, while they’re still hot. The rest are perfect for snacking on during Christmas Day, when you’re peckish but don’t want to fill up on a sandwich. And if there are any left, Boxing Day, with cold meats and bubble & squeak.

It’s nearly 4:30pm here on Christmas Eve.

Because we buried our 21 year old daughter 6 weeks ago, today at 6pm, I invited her friends and family to join me at her resting place to come together again as we remember our beloved girl this Christmas.
It will be a quiet time to reflect and comfort each other at this difficult time.

I can’t begin to imagine how you must be feeling. I’m so sorry for your loss. I hope everyone gathering together brings you some comfort.

Sounds nice for Christmas Eve. How is anyone peckish after Christmas dinner ? 😬 Maybe my portions are too big.😂

I made a veggie version for Boxing Day last year- I put leftover stuffing and dried cranberries and torn up mozzarella into some ready made puff pastry. Was good.

Why has it taken over 3 months? I started getting ready in December. Try that next year.

I think if you’re budgeting and cooking ahead it takes longer. I host a big event for work second week of December so I don’t do anything until then. This year I didn’t do anything until last Friday middle of the night. Half an hour on Ocado and JL websites and it’s all done. But that is a luxury.

So sorry you lost your DD. I hope you have a peaceful Xmas. 💐🧸

In my opinion, christmas is total overkill

There shouldn't be three months of hype leading up to it.

It's getting out of hanf

It depends how you want to do it.
I like to keep in touch with elderly relatives and distant friends, so I send cards.
I like cooking, so I make my own cake, mince pies and sausage rolls.
I use it as a chance to give the house a massive blitz.
I really enjoy making a wreath and bringing greenery in, so I do that.

I could do none of those things, and just buy a few gifts and put a tree up.

I'm so sorry. That must be very hard to bear.

Doyouthinktheyknow · 24/12/2024 19:41

@LoudPlumDog I’m so sorry for your loss, that truly is awful. I hope time at your DD’s resting place with loved ones will bring some modicum of peace and comfort for you💐

Gliblet · 24/12/2024 20:59

Okay. Cards are written, presents wrapped, there's no food prep to do because we're going to my parents' tomorrow and they insist they've bought everything All the laundry's done, the house is tidy, I've washed up. I have a creeping sense of unease about the lack of last minute panic that I'm trying to address with crumble topped mince pies...

greengreyblue · 24/12/2024 21:02

Sitting now watching Christmas bake off having been to the pub with DH and adult DDs. Need to wash my hair then bed. Happy Christmas all and if you’re not in a happy place I wish you peace and a better new year.

Crikeyalmighty · 24/12/2024 21:38
