I’m feeling nostalgic and as I was a teenager in the 90s and an avid diary writer, I have evidence that I had the following for Christmas in 1992 (from friends and family):

a lockable vanity box
a new diary from WHSmith
a velvet floppy hat a la Blossom
a black velvet bomber jacket
Tribe perfume
a Purple Ronnie mug
a Body Shop Mostly Musk gift basket
Almay eyeshadow and lipstick
Boots Natural Collection shower gel and hair conditioner
Roxette album
Bath pearls

And in 1995:

a portable TV for my bedroom
Priscilla Queen of the Desert soundtrack
Charlie White perfume
Sun and moon hanging decoration
101 Uses for a Dead Cat book
A new diary
Little beanbag frog ornament
Boots Natural Collection wooden make-up set
Now compilation album
Boots Global Collection Turkish delight lipbalm

Can anyone else remember what they got? (With or without the use of a diary to check) I love how the lists above really sum up the pop culture of the time.

Things that come to mind.

A Walkman. My mum saved up cigarette tokens to get it. You saved the tokens all year and could exchange them for items from a catalogue. Di e anyone remember this?

Charlie and exclamation spray.
Boots natural collection
A lockable diary
A karaoke machine
A video recorder
Lots of stationery
A CD or a tape. East 17, Take That, Mr Blobby
A mood ring
Jewellery from Argos
Toiletries from the little local chemist
Always a selection box

Did you use your Mr Frostie multiple times per day as I imagined as a child in the 90s who didn't get one.

No. I used it once but it failed to grate the ice, so after a few hours I got a cup full of water.

I think I remember the 80’s more for some reason.
In the 90’s I do remember getting a cd player and a guns n roses cd one year.
A black velvet bomber jacket. (had a green one too)
Trolls
Body shop white musk
Charlie Red
In 1997 I got my first mobile phone. An Eircell ready to go. Huge thing with a pull out antenna.

I remember “shell suits” were the rage in 1990
and having one for a Christmas present. You could hear the rustling with anyone walking wearing a shell suit

Forgot about them. Mine was black, pink and turquoise. Picture of me and my old school friends and most of us are wearing them!

In the 90s I loved my tower CD player. First CDs were M People, Wet Wet Wet and Now 28.

Loved my Sweater Shop jumper, anything Dewberry from the body shop, the animal soaps from body shop, Exclamation perfume.

I loved the 90s

charlieinthehaystack · 23/12/2024 08:48

loved Bang on the Door had it everywhere was quite good so many characters
loved all the Charlies Red was my fave

saltandvinegarchipsticks · 23/12/2024 09:08

I had a Lolo ball and I loved it, it was a bit of a disaster for me though as I’ve always been the type to fall over my own feet, so I did have quite a few Lolo ball related injuries.

Cosmetics To Go is a blast from the past, I remember me and my friends at school break time flicking through the catalogue. I think they were forerunners of Lush, if I remember rightly.

My mum used to have Body Shop dewberry lip balm. It smelled soooo good that one day I ate it. I can still taste it now when someone brings up dewberry and that was over 30 years ago when I was a fairly small child.

Hahah dream phone was also something I played at a friend’s house, and never would have told my parents - too raunchy for our household!

I remember the soap you mentioned! I also remember those little balls from body shop the were kinda soft plasticky things with liquid bath bubbles/shower gel inside that disintegrated in hot water. I wonder if they still sell those? 🤔

I can confirm that Lark London are selling the bath pearls!

I was aged 9 in 1990. My presents from parents were usually lots of clothes from shops like Topshop and Oasis (not the band),
CDs like Beck, Manics, Oasis (not the shop), Pulp, Sash, and the Now compilations.
Also Body Shop stuff (RIP, gone but never forgotten) and lip balms.
When I was in sixth form, I also asked for pretentious books like Sartre and Kant.
However I was never too old for a Cadbury’s selection box (always eaten for breakfast on 25th).

From friends, usually Purple Ronnie stuff or more Body Shop, more lip balms, ban the bomb signs and horoscope pendants on those black bootlace style necklaces,
and a Ronnie Mackintosh (Art Deco) silver necklace from my best friends when I was 16 in 1997.

From my grandparents usually make-up and make-up/toiletry bags, compact mirrors, Slipper Socks, hair accessories, those micro handbags that were in fashion in the 1990s (before we all got Smartphones the size of a transistor radio).

Sooo envious of your spy stuff, I was obsessed with Harriet too! Only had a b&w composition notebook though.

Ahaha I also asked for a typewriter like the one she had, and couldn't understand why santa didn't bring it 🤣 apparently vintage typewriters were harder to come by than I thought!

MyStylish40s · 23/12/2024 11:21

Spice Girls and Peter Andre CDs, Rimmel lipsticks, platform trainers. I can’t remember much else!

they were so noise when you walked, mine was black and blue I think

EdTeach · 23/12/2024 13:57

Some stand outs I remember:
Make Up Magic doll
Wild Hair Sindy and her matching Wild Hair Studio
a CD player - with the Mr Blobby CD!
always a Bunty annual and a Beano annual
Disney Pocahontas dolls and all their accessories, which was amazing!
My very first pair of dangly earrings were a Christmas present from my sister, probably in 1994. They are sparkly hearts from Elizabeth Duke! I still have them and actually wear them fairly often.

popandchoc · 23/12/2024 15:35

A princess barbie that eyes moved, we named her shift eye barbie.
A doll that was massive and could walk if you held its hand.
Soaps from avon in my stocking.
A pocahontas doll play set.

MrsSethGecko · 23/12/2024 15:43

I remember in 1997 I had:

A box of Spice Girls themed chocolates
Avon perfume
A lot of A4 lined paper for writing on
A diary with perfumed paper
A Miners makeup set that had gold nail polish, bronze lipstick and silver eyeshadow
Body Shop "Oceana" basket with soap, moisturiser and perfume oil.

imnotthatkindofmum · 23/12/2024 15:52

Body shop banana shampoo.

AppleKatie · 24/12/2024 10:10

And Facebook has just reminded me of the ‘Atmosfear’ game. That too 😂

Cantstopthenoise · 24/12/2024 10:25

A stereo in 1993 (I was almost 12) which saw me through my teens, the biggest surprise was that it had a CD player so you can imagine my face when I opened a Take That CD - I had asked for the album thinking I was getting it on tape. After that it was always dance compilations or albums of whatever groups I was into that I got on CD (I loved Boyzone, Backstreet Boys, Steps and Five after Take That split up)

Adidas popper trousers and a Reebok sweatshirt when I was about 15.

Fashion Wheel and Spirograph when I was still into toys, I would have been about 9 or 10 then.
