I’m feeling nostalgic and as I was a teenager in the 90s and an avid diary writer, I have evidence that I had the following for Christmas in 1992 (from friends and family):

a lockable vanity box
a new diary from WHSmith
a velvet floppy hat a la Blossom
a black velvet bomber jacket
Tribe perfume
a Purple Ronnie mug
a Body Shop Mostly Musk gift basket
Almay eyeshadow and lipstick
Boots Natural Collection shower gel and hair conditioner
Roxette album
Bath pearls

And in 1995:

a portable TV for my bedroom
Priscilla Queen of the Desert soundtrack
Charlie White perfume
Sun and moon hanging decoration
101 Uses for a Dead Cat book
A new diary
Little beanbag frog ornament
Boots Natural Collection wooden make-up set
Now compilation album
Boots Global Collection Turkish delight lipbalm

Can anyone else remember what they got? (With or without the use of a diary to check) I love how the lists above really sum up the pop culture of the time.

Furby, tamagotchi and a babyliss crazy braid (which tangled my hair) are my only memories… born 1990

Devilsmommy · 22/12/2024 23:00

@HangingOver I had dream phone. It was pretty pants really 😂

Noidea2024 · 22/12/2024 23:00

Early 90s, I was still very much on my Sylvanian phase, but in 1993 I got a pink mountain bike and hideous aqua towelling dressing gown. From 1994, there is a photo of me with a cardboard star lamp and dark blue moon mirror, Natural Collection toiletries, a bottle of Tribe perfume, some Impulse body sprays and a Sweater Shop Sweatshirt.

1997, I am got Encarta (thanks parents!), a cross-stitch tiger kit, an electronic nail buffing set and a 'Bow That's What I Call music' CD

CrocCottage · 22/12/2024 23:02

Tribe or Charlie Red perfume - every year!
Impulse body sprays
The Body Shop satsuma shower gel
Point Horror books. I was an avid reader (especially teen horror type stuff) & mum used to find the best books from 2nd hand bookstores. She also got me the vampire diaries books well before it was made into a tv series.
Plasticine (I loved that stuff well into my teens!)
loads of art stuff and cool art sets.
one year I got this awesome fashion design one, where you could create new designs with stencils.
Another year it was a paper marbling art set. That was so much fun, I was obsessed with it.
New clothes. I still remember this gorgeous silver sparkly dress with spaghetti straps. My mum had seen me looking at it longingly in new look, so she went back and got it for me. I wore it all the time.

My ‘big’ presents throughout my teen years were a new mountain bike, a cd player and a new tv with build in vhs. I loved that tv. It was one of those mini ones, I took it to uni with me & had it for many years after!

Anyone remember the slightly transparent tangerine soap for Body Shop. Damn that was good.

I wanted a hamburger phone SO much.

And Dream Phone. My mum thought it was common. Jokes on her as I played it obsessively at my friend's how and that was probably why I was such a tart in high school 😁

Hahah dream phone was also something I played at a friend’s house, and never would have told my parents - too raunchy for our household!

I remember the soap you mentioned! I also remember those little balls from body shop the were kinda soft plasticky things with liquid bath bubbles/shower gel inside that disintegrated in hot water. I wonder if they still sell those? 🤔

Comedycook · 22/12/2024 23:03

Pink pearlescent Reebok stacked trainers. Loved them so much

God that stuff was eye watering!

May have been mid to late 1980’s thinking about it

Runnersandtoms · 22/12/2024 23:10

I don't remember much about my big presents from that time but I remember my brother having a Boglin, and a really noisy Masters of the Universe vehicle. I do remember that all my friends and I used to buy each other Body Shop lip balms and animal shaped soaps as a default.

Retrogamer · 22/12/2024 23:13

Over the course of the decade

A typewriter
Mega drive
Galt craft kits
A weird Mario sliding puzzle in the shape of a can
Charlie body spray
Vhs of miracle on 34th st.
Wendy house

NellyTimes · 22/12/2024 23:15

Early - mid 90s would have been:
Gladiator's Fact File.
Shoot Annual
Replica kit for the football team I support, plus other merch
Always a pack of audio and video tapes
Suchard chocolate
Bruce Springsteen's greatest hits CD
Meatloaf - Bat Out Of Hell 2 on CD
Bath pearls
Dewberry spray (obvs) and animal shaped soaps from the Body Shop
Black suede bomber jacket
Probably a silk shirt as well as I was obsessed with wearing them

Littletreefrog · 22/12/2024 23:16

RealHousewivesOfTaunton · 22/12/2024 22:59

Bath pearls for sure, probably the dolphin-shaped ones from The Body shop.

A Barbie carriage.
A Barbie campervan.
A Mr Frostie. I was that child whose parents bought them one.

Did you use your Mr Frostie multiple times per day as I imagined as a child in the 90s who didn't get one.

I remember getting one of those plastic sunflowers that danced when you played music in 1990!

Omg what was that thing 🤣, I was about three I think and obsessed with it!! I still remember my mum hiding it. Did it have a button in the middle of the flower to activate it 🤣

Oh yes, the Point Horror books, how could I forget! Would definitely have had some of those, I loved them and read them all.

Also had a load of Fimo modeling clay which I attempted to make jewellery with.

LeaveALittleNote · 22/12/2024 23:18

I remember getting a sun and moon painted small chest of drawers to store makeup and trinkets in. It was so so nice - I actually regret getting rid of it.

Lots of Body Shop sets.

Ali G on vhs.

A Boots Natural Collection wooden box with eyeshadows in.

Always a “selection box” I think they were called, with a bar of Crunchie, Milky Way and a few other chocolate bars.

A Wallace and Gromit money box.

AlwaysTheRenegade · 22/12/2024 23:20

I remember getting an only fools and horses video, groovy chick stuff, Tammy girl underwear, Mr frosty that I broke with dry roasted nuts when I didn't have ice 🤣 and one of those inflatable sofas that everyone wanted but was bit at all comfortable, the seams were so sharp! 🤣

MumChp · 22/12/2024 23:21

Books for university- all 6 years of studies.

evtheria · 22/12/2024 23:24

Highlight: Sony Walkman. It was black and came with a little mic you could clip onto your shirt, so you could record things. Many mixtapes/pretend radio interviews were made!

whatever1980 · 22/12/2024 23:24

1990- a Karaoke - I had no idea what it was. My mum saw people queuing outside Dixons and she asked them what they were queuing for - when they said for karaokes she had no clue either but joined the queue.

A Smokey quartz ring from Argos

Crimpers

A watch where you could change the colour of the ring around it

SoySaucy · 22/12/2024 23:26

i don’t remember from one particular year but I do remember various ‘main’ presents that I got as a child in the 90’s

white furby,
snow white dress up costume,
a little flocked covered bear that had a bottle attached and it made sounds and smelt like vanilla (think it was called a loveable bear?)
’Alexa’ Diva stars mini doll,
Rapunzel Barbie,
‘Jam and Glam’ rockstar Barbie (with silver pleather trousers and coloured stripes in her hair)
Spice girls cassette (and t-shirt)

Haha! You have just brought back my Dream Phone memories. I remember all of my friends obsessing over it and I couldn't have cared less. Makes sense as an adult as I’m gay haha.

Happyhibiscus · 22/12/2024 23:29

@evtheria Yes the Sony Walkman, absolutely loved mine.
so many things I’d forgotten about.
I had a lovely top and skirt from coppernob one year, also loved Benetton and nafnaf stuff.

itsalwaysthesame · 22/12/2024 23:29

Bath pearls OMG I've been transported back in time!
I used to get them too and loved popping them (then spending ages trying to get the skin of the pearl to dissolve.

CrushingOnRubies · 22/12/2024 23:33

1992- was a kitchen which took up the whole sitting room
1994- was a plastic Wendy house

But 1999 was the year of the inflatable purple chair and cd player which was in the shape of a coca -cola can

Gliblet · 22/12/2024 23:39
