How many people do you buy presents for?

Kaleidoscope101 · 03/12/2024 22:11

A few years back I decided to really streamline my Christmas present buying and now only buy for my kids and their grandparents (2).
Everyone else seems to have loads more people to buy for and I was just interested in how many people you buy presents for.
Just to add, I did make it known that I was streamlining the present buying. I would not want anyone to get me a present

Dad, sister our 3 child, 2 spouses, 6 grandchildren and DH

ElvenElf · 03/12/2024 22:19

2 kids
4 nieces and nephews
DH
2 x sets of parents

familyissues12345 · 03/12/2024 22:21

My parents
DH's stepmum
5 nieces/nephews
My uncle
My aunt
DH's step sister

Our two boys

We don't go mad on any. The bottom 3 just get a token gesture. We have a rule in our house where if we buy for your children, we don't buy for you so nothing for our siblings but DH's stepsister doesn't have children so she gets something.

I'd rather cut back a bit, and focus on the children. They range from a young baby up to 21 year olds and they're far more interesting to buy presents for!

SoManyTshirts · 03/12/2024 22:21

My surviving parent, adult DCs and DGC. Although DS and I sometimes mutually agree not to bother.

Floranan · 03/12/2024 22:22

No parents or in-laws now, and I stopped buying for nieces / nephews when they hit 21. Still buy for my 6 brothers and 6 SIL’S but just a token nice bottle of wine normally.

i buy for DH ( he buys for me ) - jointly buy 5 children (3 mine 1 SD 1 joint child) 4 grandchildren 5 in-laws.

betterangels · 03/12/2024 22:23

Six. Five family members and one close friend.

TheDandyLion · 03/12/2024 22:26

Only DH.

IAKnowyou · 03/12/2024 22:26

Every year it dwindles dramatically. And that's not a bad thing.. although I did think buying for less people would save money. It appears I still have little to no self control, so instead - the few people I do buy for just get more than previous years !
I now only buy for - Daughter, Fiancé, our 3 cats (1 thing each)
Dad, stepmom, (their 2 cats) and Nan.

OatFlatWhiteForMePlease · 03/12/2024 22:26

25 in total.

3 children plus 2 partners and one grandchild (6)
Parents, in laws and 1 remaining grandparent (5)
6 nieces and nephews (6)
DD’s friends x2, neighbours child (just a selection box), friends children x3 (6)
DH and I ( all out of the same budget) (2)

MissyB1 · 03/12/2024 22:27

My 3 sons
Eldest ds girlfriend
Dh
My 2 sisters
Neice & Nephew
2 God children

That's enough!

LimeYellow · 03/12/2024 22:29

DH, my three DC, my parents, MIL, six godchildren / children of close friends.

DH and I don't exchange presents with our siblings - just cards.

Bbq1 · 03/12/2024 22:31

Mum
Husband
Son
Sister
Sister's partner
Brother
Sister in law
Niece
Great Nephew
Best friend

Used to buy for my very dear dad and lovely pils when they were alive but other than that, my list has been pretty much the same for years.

mamaduckbone · 03/12/2024 22:33

Dh, 2xdc, my mum. Dh organises his own mum and dad. They are the only big ones.

Secret Santa for in-laws family get-together.
Secret Santa for work.
Books for great-nieces and nephews on my side.
A silly family present (usually a game) for nieces and nephews on dh's side.
Something small for ds18's gf.
I think that's it.

We don't buy for nieces and nephews when over 18, or our siblings and their partners - we're quite a big family and it just gets ridiculous. Ds has his first adult Christmas this year where he won't get gifts from his aunties and uncles!

9
My parents, my sister, brother-in-law and their two dc, dh and our two dc. Dh buys for his parents, his brother and his sister-in-law. Totally happy with that and no desire to streamline.

Crazymadchickenlady · 03/12/2024 22:34

Three DH and two daughters. Stopped buying for anyone else.

Mumistiredzzzz · 03/12/2024 22:34

Just added up, 21! No wonder it seems like it's cost a fortune!!

Makelikeatreeandleaf · 03/12/2024 22:36

Three.
Made a pact with friends/parents of godchildren when they were all tiny that we would only do birthdays, not Christmas for the children as we had enough to sort, has worked perfectly.

fiddleleaffig · 03/12/2024 22:37

My Mum, dad and sister,
Husband and our 4 dc
DD's boyfriend will also get a small gift.
So 9 people in total

AndThereSheGoes · 03/12/2024 22:37

I streamlined a few years back when my son was early teens.. culled to immediate family, simple one gift presents

But then weirdly it seems to have expanded again....

So now it's; Husband, son, his girlfriend, step daughter, her girlfriend, my parents, my in laws when we do Christmas with them, my favourite aunt, 3 nieces and nephews, my friends (x3) our couple friend's (x2) and who ever/ secret Santa at work. Plus next door neighbour who ALWAYS buys me something even though I say I'm not doing it.
Plus DH, 2 friends and said best door neighbour all gave December birthdays... it's like an Amazon warehouse round here currently.

Same!

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 03/12/2024 22:41

One. My DD.

IMustDoMoreExercise · 03/12/2024 22:41

None.

Realized it was a waste of time and money around 40 years ago and haven't looked back.

TabloidFootprints · 03/12/2024 22:42

DH, two DS, mum, dad, two sisters, four nieces and nephews. Three friends. Sometimes three other friends, if I am seeing them over the festive period. So 14 to 17 . Oh, and two Secret Santas, work and a hobby group. We also get presents for two BILs but have outsourced that to DH.

BlackJacktheDog · 03/12/2024 22:43
ThatIsNotMyNameSoWhyAreYouCallingMeThat · 03/12/2024 22:43

Just two. DD and DNephew. DD gets a couple of things (and a holiday) and DNephew gets a token gift.
