How many people do you buy presents for?

Kaleidoscope101 · 03/12/2024 22:11

A few years back I decided to really streamline my Christmas present buying and now only buy for my kids and their grandparents (2).
Everyone else seems to have loads more people to buy for and I was just interested in how many people you buy presents for.
Just to add, I did make it known that I was streamlining the present buying. I would not want anyone to get me a present

Usually 25 between DH and I, and that just family (so parents, siblings, siblings partners, nieces, nephews and a grandparent each plus a few godchildren
This year, 20, as my mum, my siblings and their partners are doing secret Santa. Thank god 😂

Husband, adult son, adult step son, step son’s live in girlfriend, my best friend, best friend’s two teenage daughters and their dog.

I’m from a very large family. I used to try and buy for everyone (23+ people!) but it got started getting silly expensive (and stressful) as the years have gone on, so we stopped doing that 4/5 years ago. It’s not sustainable and once our dcs came along, I wanted to spend ££ on them instead!

I buy for my dcs and dh and the younger nieces and nephews. So, about 6/7 people.

I don’t buy for siblings or older nieces & nephews. I also stopped buying presents for my mum & dad a couple of years ago. They just don’t need anything and we’re always tell us off for buying them stuff!
Dh and I take them out for a nice meal and a couple of drinks instead, which they really enjoy, as they don’t go out for dinner often. I get them little gifts every so often throughout the year though. Slippers, flowers for the garden, a new book, things like that.

Oh I forgot a few, employees, our accountant and a couple of our nearest neighbours, so back up to 25 🤣

Gettingbysomehow · 04/12/2024 14:01

Nephews and niece and DS and wife only. I can't afford to spend a fortune over Christmas. I have become Scrooge in latter years,

17 in total - DD, DH, Mum, Dad, MIL, Brother, Sister, SIL, BIL, 2 x Nieces, 3 x friends, 3 x godchildren. I'll also buy little token gifts for dog boarder, dds singing & drama teacher and my hairdresser. I've no interest in streaming it down. Love giving and receiving presents 🙂

Nodancingshoes · 04/12/2024 16:06

I've done the same:
Dh, my 2 kids, 2 nieces, 2 nephews. There's a new baby in the family this year so I'll buy for them too.

Minihero · 04/12/2024 19:48

Dh, 2xDC, mum, dad, sister, BiL, 2 x nephews, DC's nanny, friend's 2xDC - so 12.
DH buys for his side.
Plus edible token gifts for 11 work colleagues (my team) and 2 x DC teachers.

KStockHERO · 04/12/2024 19:50

Maverick66 · 04/12/2024 20:14

3 adult children
2 grandchildren
That's it.
Stopped all unnecessary buying years ago ...thankfully!

Newsenmum · 04/12/2024 20:20

I’ve just sat here and worked it out. My parents, his parents, each other my sibling, sibling partner, his sibling, sibling partner, nephew, grandma x2, grandad, our kids. That comes to 15

With friends I’ve just counted around 12 in total.

So that’s 28. Fucking hell. And that’s streamlining! I try to do fewer friends now, or at least the friends just a box of chocolates and the kdis get better presents.

ZippyDoodle · 04/12/2024 21:57

Not as many as most of the people on this thread. Some of these are bringing me out in a cold sweat!

StressedQueen · 04/12/2024 22:00

5 children - big gifts, lots for them
Parents - about 3/4 small things for both
MIL - one small thing
My brothers + BIL - 1 small present each
Nephews and nieces - a small present each
DH - we get each other 1 big gift every year

Don't do Christmas presents with my friends thankfully!! We make birthdays very special instead 😁

Marsaala · 04/12/2024 22:02

None. Gave up the fakeness that is xmas many years ago. Escape to the slopes every year. I do remember what it was like though. The panic of buying, the panic of spending my money (didn't have much then), the thought that I preferred our usual family dinners.

kikisparks · 04/12/2024 22:04

DD
DH
Mum
Dad
Brother
Brother’s gf
MIL
FIL
SIL
Friend and her son
Other set of Friends’ two kids

No nieces or nephews, and don’t buy for anyone more extended but some of my aunts might buy something for us/ DD.

IKEAJesus · 04/12/2024 22:07

3 people to get proper presents for, plus the work Secret Santa

Wish there were more tbh as I enjoy buying presents, but I have a very small family and most of my friends don’t really exchange gifts.
