How many people do you buy presents for?

Kaleidoscope101 · 03/12/2024 22:11

A few years back I decided to really streamline my Christmas present buying and now only buy for my kids and their grandparents (2).
Everyone else seems to have loads more people to buy for and I was just interested in how many people you buy presents for.
Just to add, I did make it known that I was streamlining the present buying. I would not want anyone to get me a present

Used to be ridiculous amounts - my DH is from an unbelievably large family and we used to buy for ALL under 18s as well as his siblings, but it got out of hand. I also used to buy for my brothers, sisters-in-law, and some of my cousins' kids. I think at one point we were buying for around 80 people, it was insane and we could only budget a maximum of £5-£10 per gift anyway.
Now we only buy for 6 of his younger great-nieces/great-nephews who we see often, along with my 2 nephews who are under 18 (just! probably won't be buying for them next year), our own 3 kids who are adult or almost, and each other.

DP, DD and her DP. My parents are no longer here. Me and my siblings don't buy for each other.

MiddleAgedDread · 04/12/2024 10:30

2 parents
brother & SIL
2 nephews
3 godchildren and they each have a sibling
1 close friend
1 BF
= 14

Iliketulips · 04/12/2024 11:07

I buy for DH, DD, DD's BF, DM, Auntie, previous neighbours and six friends (I've know them 20-50 years and wouldn't not buy for them). When DH worked, I used to buy for his family, but he's retired now. He buys joint prezzies for his three siblings and their partners. We stopped buying for nieces and nephews a few years ago, but one has given us a present the last couple of years, so in a dilemma about buying for him - he's the youngest, living at home and a student with siblings

So overall, I buy for 13, DH buys three joint and hopefully for me.

Ours has increased a bit in the last few years as there have been some new babies in our friends/family.

As well as presents for each other, DH and I are up to 23!

Our DD
Our parents (x4)
SIL
Two sets of aunt/uncle (usually just some nice chocs/biscuits)
1 Aunt (last time this year though)
2 adult friends
5 Goddaughters (age 0-8)
7 other family or friends kids (age 1-14)

Ok, that's made me realise just how much it's increased!!

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 04/12/2024 11:56

A lot fewer than I used to!

Dh (usually something he needs anyway and will never buy for himself), 3 x young Gdcs, 2 x adult dds and their dh/dp - actual presents only if they’ve told me something specific, otherwise it’s something small (edible) to open, and cash.

2 x Dsis, one BiL, a Dbro and a Sil, we now do small edibles or drinkables only, pref. something a bit special that we wouldn’t buy for ourselves. None of us wants any more ‘stuff’.

Tealeavesinthecup · 04/12/2024 11:57

My children and their partners.

TorroFerney · 04/12/2024 11:58

Husband and daughter (but that’s shared with husband). Mum and a friends child. So three and a half.

ByMerryKoala · 04/12/2024 12:03

23 between our house, my family and dh's family. A few token gifts for family friends, and a donation to the teacher's gift.

LittleRedRidingHoody · 04/12/2024 12:22

Wayyyy too many - but I love it 😂

Grandmother
Parents
Aunt
Sister
Brother
Son
Nephew
Nephews mum/DBs ex (love her!)
3x Friends
Family friends - 4 x however many are in the household - normally 1 'sharing' gift and token presents for the individuals.

Token presents (something small + gift card) for DSs regular babysitter, cleaner, DMs volunteer carer/befriending people (x2), DSs teacher/TA, 7x extra curricular group leaders

Gift bag with lots of treats - bin men (absolute legends - no regrets here), DMs regular hospital clinic, and A&E (we are very, very annoying frequent fliers)

mondaytosunday · 04/12/2024 12:22

My two children
My two sisters and niece. My parents have passed away.
My step- grandkids (four now as twins arrived in October). Usually interactive books and for the twins handmade cardi/beanie sets. I did crochet baby blankets for them when born but package got lost in the post 😩😩). Now that my stepsons have kids I no longer buy them a gift.
If I visit someone I only see a couple times a year I'll bring a gift. I'll visit my FIL (my DH died years ago and this is his stepfather, my MIL passed easy earlier this year) so have bought him a selection of chutneys and jellies. Ditto my cousin who we will also visit.
Don't do friends.

InTheLibrary · 04/12/2024 12:23

DH
DS
Joint present for parents
Joint present for sister and her fiancé
Cousins Son

DH handles all his family.

LufthName · 04/12/2024 12:23

My husband. My child. My parents. Used to buy for more but stopped a few years ago and cut right back. Less expense and stress.

kiana2015 · 04/12/2024 12:25

I buy:

Daughter
Step daughter
Partner
X6 siblings
Mum
Dad

This is so much to buy I don't tend to buy anyone else, however the past few years people at work have got me gifts so I've got them back also, I do try to make a point to tell everyone how many people I buy in the hopes no one will buy me

SabreIsMyFave · 04/12/2024 12:25

DH, both DD and their partners, 2 small children, and also 2 close friends.

That's it.

(The 2 small children (both 3,) belong to individual neighbours who live very close to me. My 2 close friends have children but they're adults.)

.

ShodAndShadySenators · 04/12/2024 12:28

I have DS, DH, DNephew, DNiece, DSis (a stocking) and a couple of friends.

I don't really buy presents for adults with their own income - the friends are excepted as they buy something for me; they don't need to and I don't ask for anything but it's like they can't be stopped... Grin

ThirdStorm · 04/12/2024 12:30

I buy for 14, close/immediate family and a couple of work colleagues. I'm spending around £300.

Just added up, 21! No wonder it seems like it's cost a fortune!!

Oh 1 more, my dog!

Mill3nnial · 04/12/2024 13:23

for my side (as we deal with presents separately other than our DC) "proper presents" - 6 - DC, parents, sibling, a few friends

Nice chocolates or biscuits (around £15) - 7 - aunts / relatives

DH will buy for his parents, six nieces and nephews and nice chocolates for five siblings

Hickory247 · 04/12/2024 13:29
