Our decs are up but the outside lights will be put up today.
Currently sat on the sofa with the tree lights twinkling, coffee by my side and a Christmas film playing in the background. Looking forward to a sunset dog walk later to see people's lights before a nice roast dinner 😊

I'm going to the Advent Carol Service at St Paul's Cathedral.

Putting the tree up - including a handful of glass baubles I wasn't sure whether to include, because...kittens. So far, they're less interested than I expected!

Just about to put some window lights up too & browse for some kitchen decor ideas - I don't want much of what we have in here now 🤔

Meadowfinch · 01/12/2024 15:43

I made and iced 20 gingerbread Christmas trees as a trial run before making a big batch for the local youth club. Tried two different kinds of icing and various decorations.

DS will eat them later. 🤗

We all went Christmas shopping this weekend, but honestly the crowds were horrible, think we will try and go in the week for anything still left to buy, but we got most of the extended family presents ticked off.

Making the Christmas cake later and we’ll have a roast dinner - DH is already elbow deep in potatoes and parsnips.

I’ve switched the tablecloth, napkins and placemats for the winter season, and put out the advent candle on the table.

DC have enjoyed their advent calendar chocolates.

No tree yet though, will wait another couple of weeks.

Nothing!! It's too early!!

Same here!

Our decs have always gone up on or soon after the last day of school / college term and we take them back down when they go back. We all like it this way.

usernother · 01/12/2024 15:48

Nothing. Because there is 24 days to go before Christmas Day.

MinnieMountain · 01/12/2024 15:49

MIL has come for lunch, so we’ve worked out who’s bringing what for Christmas day.

Seems like the wrong time to be in the Christmas forum, then?

BIWI · 01/12/2024 15:55

Made some mince pies, using the mince meat I made last week. (And making sure not to waste the cut-outs!)

Teen DD jumped into my bed this morning to open the advent calendar.
Tree put up by teen and her friend, Christmas music on. I'm making a roast and trying not to eat all the mince pies.

Also, I'm feeling very salty about what has been done to the Quality Street Purple One! Small size is to be expected but they've messed with the shape 😭

garlictwist · 01/12/2024 16:06

Nothing.

DH and I are a bit crap at Christmas. Never get a tree or decorations or even presents. But I have fairy lights up all winter which I just love and am sitting next to them now.

FaceLikeACrackedScreen · 01/12/2024 16:08

@TheSquareMile I’m going to the same service at York Minster. Love it, start of Christmas for me. I hope you enjoy your service.

changedusernameforthis1 · 01/12/2024 16:08

We've put our tree and other decorations up today. Also saw someone else online write christmas film names on lolly sticks and get the kids to pick them out of a jar to watch so I made them today.

All of us are just getting over covid so it'll be nice to watch a good Christmassy film with a hot chocolate later 😊

dontforgetme · 01/12/2024 16:10

Our trees have been up for a week and our outside lights were put up yesterday. This morning the kids had their elves, advent calendars, and some Christmas crafty bits. We've watched muppets Christmas carol, painted our own nutcrackers, kids now on devices whilst oh and I cook a roast with the footy. Then will be baths and Christmas pjs (for the kids) and Harry Potter tonight!

Love the 1st December, especially when it falls on the weekend!

NotEnoughTime · 01/12/2024 16:29

I have Classic FM playing Christmas Carols in the background while drinking a glass of fizz and I have started writing out my Christmas cards. My dog is keeping my feet warm so I'm all nice and cosy. I'm making Christmas Baubles later on in the week with some friends and volunteering at a Christmas Concert so a nice festive week ahead for me 🎅

Hudders3 · 01/12/2024 16:47

Some lovely replies here and enjoyed reading them. Hope everyone had a great 1st Dec.

Of course it is too early for some, but won't understand the need to open a thread you 'don't agree with' just to make a point.
Skip past the thread and go to one you like the look of... Xmas Wink

They've messed with the taste too. Musty and unpleasant in the non-foil, non-plastic wrapping. No longer jewels of Christmas.

Digisquidgy · 01/12/2024 17:03

Tree and decorations are all up. Bedding changed for Christmas bedding, bathroom and kitchen decorated. And the hall. Outside lights are up and our front step decorated. It’s been a busy day but I’ve loved it. Sitting watching a movie with a Prosecco now.

ErrolTheDragon · 01/12/2024 17:05

The only vaguely xmassy thing I've done or have any intention of doing is discussing possible seasonal name changes on another thread, not that we can really do those properly nowadays.

familyissues12345 · 01/12/2024 17:06

Made a start on the Christmas shopping! Outside lights are going up tomorrow and we're visiting a Christmas market Xmas Grin

familyissues12345 · 01/12/2024 17:10

I'm trying to be more organised this year as it's always a struggle as we have birthdays around Christmas too! This year is exciting as we've gained a couple of babies into the extended family/friends and I just love buying baby clothes! Grin

@CandyCane457 in the complete chaos of very small children this sounds absolutely glorious

I agree

MadmansLibrary · 01/12/2024 17:13

The Christmas tree is up, the advent calendar is out and the accursed elf has arrived. Christmas bedding on the bed and we're watching Stick Man on TV for the first (but almost certainly not the last) time this festive season.
