Do you watch it with your kids?

Mine are grown and I've just put it on as it's free (sort of, bloody adverts) on Amazon Prime which made me think no one must watch it (The Grinch was free last weekend but pay to view now)

It has everything, magic, hope, terror, fantasy, and a happy ending.

I think it is everything christmassy

Our family's favourite is the polar express. We watch it every year after putting up the Christmas tree

Starlight7080 · 30/11/2024 11:53

It's definitely one of my favourites still. Reminds me of my childhood Christmas.

We watch it every year

slipperypenguin · 30/11/2024 11:53

Which version? The one with Tim Allen is good but the whole divorce story is a bit boring / dragged out we find

ImDuranDuran · 30/11/2024 11:53

It's my personal childhood favourite, I watched it every year growing up (and still try to) however it seems to get awful reviews any time it's advertised Grin John Lithgow's character alone makes it worth watching for me.

But you're absolutely right it's so comforting and magical. I'll always have a place in my heart for it! 🎄

MulderitsmeX · 30/11/2024 11:54

This is correct OP. The tension of whether they will do the super duper looper is unsurpassed. And you can never go wrong with John Lithgow

🤣🤣

Toddlerteaplease · 30/11/2024 11:57

Wrong. The Muppets CC is the best Christmas movie!! 😂

FuckItItsFine · 30/11/2024 12:02

Shout out to Daisy from Keeping Up Appearances as the definitive Mrs Claus ❤️

DancingWithYouInTheSummerRain · 30/11/2024 12:02

Oh it's my all time fave, and I have introduced it to my children, it's not a fave of theirs.....yet, but I will continue to try haha!

Last night we popped on Home Alone and I watched it through my children's eyes the traps/pranks brought them pure giggles haha and they both seemed really cornered that Kevin wouldn't get his family back! Lovely!

No the 1985 with Dudley Moore and John Lithgow. No boring divorce here!

Indeed.

And from your user name I expect we have other TV programmes in common.

It's my favourite modern Christmas movie.

It's a Wonderful Life is my favourite old film.

a christmas story GIF

A Christmas Story is definitely worth a watch.

Samesame47 · 30/11/2024 12:12

Muppets Christmas Carol for me, I will never tire of watching it

Peridot1 · 30/11/2024 12:13

I don’t really remember this one. Might put it on my list to watch this year.

TheSilkWorm · 30/11/2024 12:14

I love this film for nostalgia purposes. However my dad (who is a bit eccentric) didn't like the second half once the elf goes to New York and sells the magic dust so he cut off the video recording before it got to that bit so until I was an adult I had no idea it had a second half!

TheSilkWorm · 30/11/2024 12:15

My favourite modern Christmas film is Klaus on Netflix. It's beautiful.

Rosybud88 · 30/11/2024 12:16

It has to be Home Alone for me, but I like most Christmas films.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 30/11/2024 12:17

The scene where the doors to the toy room are opened brings back so many nostalgic memories of watching it as a kid

Liv999 · 30/11/2024 12:17

Home Alone is the best Christmas movie, followed closely by Prancer, but Santa Clause the movie is up there too!

3ormorecharacters · 30/11/2024 12:23

Definitely peak Christmas! I'm always surprised it's not more well known. The beginning sequence is etched in my brain. I always really wanted Mr and Mrs Claus's bed, it looks so cosy.

dontforgetme · 30/11/2024 12:23

It's one of mine! Reminds me of being a kid. My children don't like it though!

That made me laugh more than I should have.

As a child I never wanted Patch to leave and always wanted to skip that part so I think your dad is great .

Glad to see love for the Muppets, also a fabulous film.

Interesting reading that kids today don't love it, tastes change, just reminds me so much if childhood and childhood magic.

It's one of the only Christmas films I've never really got. Will try again

Well I'm watching Deck the Halls now as it autostarted and is sort of free.

Trying to do a proper clean/declutter of the downstairs rooms ready to get out the decorations.
