Do you watch it with your kids?

Mine are grown and I've just put it on as it's free (sort of, bloody adverts) on Amazon Prime which made me think no one must watch it (The Grinch was free last weekend but pay to view now)

It has everything, magic, hope, terror, fantasy, and a happy ending.

I think it is everything christmassy

Oh I remember going to the cinema to see this as a little girl. There was an interval and I had an ice cream and a box of smarties. You could only buy the rectangular boxes in the cinemas couldn’t you? I loved it!

AnnieMay2000 · 30/11/2024 23:41

Yes, it's my absolute favourite film.

Bobbi730 · 01/12/2024 00:24

My kids (and I) love the Christmas Chronicles and Home Alone but I've clearly missed out on a lot of Christmas movies. We'll be trying to catch up this year.

ReformMyArse · 01/12/2024 05:11

It’s a good one. But for me it’s National Lampoons Christmas Vacation. Followed by Home Alone.

We love all three of the Santa Clause movies with Tim Allen, muppets CC, Elf, Polar Express and Deck the Halls is a personal favourite though I don’t really know why. The new one for us is Spirited, first time we saw it it was too long and we didn’t feel the love but for some reason it’s really grown on us and we giggle loads every time someone says Good Afternoon for about a week after watching it.

Me and DH quote the "uh hu, uh hu" John Lithgow but at least once a month. Definitely up there in the top five of Christmas films.

mumtotwo11 · 01/12/2024 09:11

Our favourite film is the Great Store in the World with Dervla Kirwan, Peter Capaldi and Brian Blessed.

I absolutely would love to watch this again but I've never seen it on again since I was little?!

RedVelvetIcing · 01/12/2024 10:56

We watched this last night. It’s my childhood favourite.

Re The Greatest Store in the World

It's on Youtube

A bit cringy in hindsight (esp Dudley Moore and that rich girl/poor boy storyline) but v nostalgic for me - we watched it every year! I might watch it again today with the kids (who will probably be totally unimpressed with the special effects!

TimbuktuTimbuktu · 01/12/2024 11:34

Literally just finished watching it this morning. I have seen it so many times I can basically quote every line. It was one of the few videos we had as a kid (taped off the telly obviously)

Such a great film. Kids these days don't know what they are missing!
