Do you watch it with your kids?

Mine are grown and I've just put it on as it's free (sort of, bloody adverts) on Amazon Prime which made me think no one must watch it (The Grinch was free last weekend but pay to view now)

It has everything, magic, hope, terror, fantasy, and a happy ending.

I think it is everything christmassy

I've found my people! When we were kids every Christmas Eve me and my cousins would be bundled into a living room and shut in to watch this while my mum and aunties rushed around swapping presents between houses! I have watched it every Christmas Eve since I was tiny and still do with my kids. They love it! The one year we were at DHs parents I forgot my copy of the DVD and I made DHs mum drive round all the shops in town til we found one 😳🤣

No the 1985 with Dudley Moore and John Lithgow. No boring divorce here!

Loved this film as a kid myself, my lot, not so much lol. I will be attempting it again with them this year. Brilliant film.
Home Alone is the current fave with them. My 5 yr old twins are obsessed with harry and marv lol.

Wrong. The Muppets CC is the best Christmas movie!! 😂

Is a must every Christmas Eve/ Christmas Day !

iwishihadaname · 30/11/2024 15:49

Agreed

allmybooksarefromthelibrary · 30/11/2024 15:53

Home Alone is our favourite.

I'm not that fussed about Santa Claus the Movie - I was a bit too overexposed to it as a child (saw it 3 times in the cinema when it came out) and then countless times afterwards, so I can take it or leave it now.

unclebuck · 30/11/2024 15:53

Home Alone. I have seen it at least 60 times and always piss myself laughing when he sticks his head thru the cat hat and gets set on fire. It's just slapstick genius.

casualjesamine · 30/11/2024 16:53

I love 'Santa Claus The Movie'; I went to the cinema to see it with my parents when it came out. I also love 'Bernard and the Genie', a made-for-TV movie by Richard Curtis and starring Alan Cumming and Lenny Henry, but it has never been repeated. I have a very old VHS copy! I did find it on BritBox a couple of years ago though.

My favourite modern Christmas film is Klaus on Netflix. It's beautiful.

Saw Klaus in repeat when my son was a baby, he can take it or leave it but I thought I was an absolute treasure of a film

Which version? The one with Tim Allen is good but the whole divorce story is a bit boring / dragged out we find

That one's a completely different movie called THE SANTA CLAUSE

It is very easy to get confused between which is which I'll admit.

RafaistheKingofClay · 30/11/2024 17:07

Are you thinking of The Santa Clause.

Moonlaserbearwolf · 30/11/2024 17:09

Yes! I agree, but my children aren’t that fussed about it. I must try again this Christmas.

RafaistheKingofClay · 30/11/2024 17:09

The quote seems to have disappeared but see @purpleme12 has got there before me anyway.

Boydylannumber1 · 30/11/2024 18:12

Sorry copied it twice.

Runnersandtoms · 30/11/2024 18:14

My kids love to say 'the super dooper loop the looper, it's the only way' whenever anyone says anything about 'the only way' at any time of year 😁

NellyTimes · 30/11/2024 19:23

I absolutely love it but my kids don't and I can see why, it's actually quite dated. Some things are best when there is nostalgia attached to them and this film just reminds me of Christmas Eve when I was a child.

I haven't rtft. But it's number one in my eyes too. Santa in this film is the best Santa ever from a film!

AsburyPark · 30/11/2024 22:07

Yes! My DH doesn’t like it but I put it down to him not watching it as a child. It’s my absolute favourite and he WAS Santa to me as a child, in fact if I think of Santa I still picture David Huddleston. My DC aren’t really old enough for it yet but I’m hoping they’ll love it as much as me.

Scrimt · 30/11/2024 22:11

couldn't tell you the plot but I know I've seen it because it was a cause of great excitement in our primary school in the 1980s when we were told we'd be watching Santa Claus the Movie one year. I remember the nun wheeling the normal sized TV into the hall 😂

purpleme12 · 30/11/2024 22:15

I'm not sure we ever watched the full movie when I was little?
I think we might have seen bits of it when it was on Tele?
I definitely watched a lot of it when I was little but I remember watching it years later as an adult and having no recollection of the start of it I know that. The start of it was a complete revelation to me

AllHisCaterpillarFriends · 30/11/2024 23:26

it's actually quite dated

Oh this made me weep, how can it be dated?
But it is 1985, nearly 40 years- how can that be possible.

It's like watching a film from 1945 in the 80's.

Time needs to slow the fuck down.

It's between this and The Muppets Christmas Carol. I'm also quite partial to Father Christmas, the Raymond Briggs one.

imnotthatkindofmum · 30/11/2024 23:34

It's my favourite but my kids hate it lol

GavlarShmavlar · 30/11/2024 23:37

Arthur Christmas is the best Christmas film. Fact.
