Yes, I know they're unpopular on here but I fancy tinsel, and ceiling decorations this year!

& I wondered if anyone's seen any really thick tinsel, or ceiling decorations, anywhere irl?

I forgot to look at The Range the other night, & the tinsel in our local pop up Christmas shop is thin & a bit rubbishy.

I've found ceiling decs on ebay unless anyone's seen any of them in person. None of the usual suspects (Poundland type places) had any that I could see this afternoon.

Thanks (& if you're going to express your distaste at my desire for tinsel & ceiling decorations, please don't bother!) 🎄

B&Q!!!!!

Bigearringsbigsmile · 27/11/2024 21:57

I bought some really thick, bushy tinsel in tesco this week.

OctoblocksAssemble · 27/11/2024 21:59

I'm just here to express my love of tinsel. I have some vintage 80's tinsel that has held up remarkably well. Dd wants to buy more this year as she adores it too 😆

gamerchick · 27/11/2024 22:00

I like the 80s style foil ceiling decorations but they're getting harder and harder to find and I'm not paying Amazon prices when you usually get one or two stapled wrong.

I've got a ton of tinsel so don't know the struggle for that.

DinosaurOfFire · 27/11/2024 22:03

The Range and B and Q have lots of tinsel- we have some from The Range a few years ago and it has lasted well.

Nottodaygoaway · 27/11/2024 22:06

I am a huge tinsel fan. Thanks to PP for recommending B&Q, I need new!

I'm going for the retro 80s look.

brokenbics · 27/11/2024 22:09

Not quite the same but I really really want to change to lots of different brightly coloured baubles this year and can't find anything but the standard red, white, silver or gold!^^

Goldenmimx · 27/11/2024 22:10

I don't know why people hate tinsel. I really fancy it this year too and saw a lovely range in a Blue Diamond garden centre

spottedinthewilds · 27/11/2024 22:12

Tesco have navy blue tinsel and I love anything navy.

I've been looking for big fat foil streamers and those enormous chandelier ones that unfold for years. I wish they'd come back into fashion.

Tesco has loads

The range is usually tinsel central, but their offerings are not the best this year in my local one. A bit matte.
My personal faves are the holographic ones, I want my Christmas house to look like a 1980s working men’s club, I can’t help it. All tinsel and teeny bottles of babysham and cherry b’s. Festive 😃. I decorate like Del Boy.

Really wish they would. It doesn't feel like Christmas unless it looks like it threw up all over the ceiling.

WeRChristmas do big boxes of mixed bright colours, I bought two last year.

sunsu · 27/11/2024 22:33

A bit spenny but I bought the most gorgeous multicoloured tinsel from John Lewis last year. It is thick and lovely! Also got some great stuff from B&Q. We go for 90s themed Christmas in our house! Love it!

LegoTherapy · 27/11/2024 22:54

I was thinking last night of getting lots of foil ceiling streamers like we had in the 80s. I loved the way they reflected the Christmas tree lights. Happy memories. My tree is a mixture of very old decorations and new, no tinsel, but I long for the foil decorations of my childhood. I might go all out in the dining room 🎄

BecauseOfTheRain · 27/11/2024 23:11

I want to do this too and I've just placed an order with Christmastimeuk site. Will report back on verdict when they arrive

APurpleSquirrel · 27/11/2024 23:25

I bought my foil concertina Christmas decs a few years ago in Wilko's I think. I have a bell, & several stars/snowflakes.
Here are some of the streamer ones in B&Q:

StormingNorman · 27/11/2024 23:29

The ceiling decs take me back to my Nan’s house circa 1985. I love them!

Not seen tinsel around but lots of lumetta(sp ?)

ShinyPrettyThings87 · 27/11/2024 23:39

Wish everyone who is loving/having this 'theme' would post a post-decorating pic! Sounds amazingly nostalgic 😍
I love tinsel but it just doesn't fit in with my decor/the house is too small to go ott with too much! I did buy some 90s ceiling decs from Wilko's a few years back... now I've just got Nordic, plain stars a-dangling from above.

TwinklyNight · 28/11/2024 01:51

I am really loving retro tinsely stuff, started last year when dh bought some silvery tinsel. We only had tabletop trees last year so I loaded those up. And used all red and green lights, felt like back in the 60's. We only have a small house but put a small tree in each room.
I want to buy a big tinsely tree but dh cringes.

Christmas Foil Decorations - Buy Xmas Foil Decorations at Christmas Time UK

Feeling very nostalgic now!

APurpleSquirrel · 28/11/2024 07:35

We have tinsel, but not on the tree - I drape it round pictures & around the bannister.

JessicaPeach · 28/11/2024 07:40

Asda have the foil ceiling decorations. B&m has some lovely bushy tinsel, my kids have gone wild with it decorating their playroom!
