Yes, I know they're unpopular on here but I fancy tinsel, and ceiling decorations this year!

& I wondered if anyone's seen any really thick tinsel, or ceiling decorations, anywhere irl?

I forgot to look at The Range the other night, & the tinsel in our local pop up Christmas shop is thin & a bit rubbishy.

I've found ceiling decs on ebay unless anyone's seen any of them in person. None of the usual suspects (Poundland type places) had any that I could see this afternoon.

Thanks (& if you're going to express your distaste at my desire for tinsel & ceiling decorations, please don't bother!) 🎄

Ebay is generally not too pricey for the 80s style foil ceiling garlands. I'm not sure on tinsel as we inherited all ours from our parents when they decided it was tacky!

Clingfilm · 28/11/2024 08:20

Asda for the ceiling decs! I've still got a little stockpile that I got before Wilko closed down. I put them up every year along with tinsel, I don't do Instagram Christmas, I do British 70s/80s Christmas chinks babycham glass with the poster up thread

WeMeetInFairIthilien · 28/11/2024 11:39

Have got so much tinsel. It's around every door frame, and every picture...

It's not Christmas without tinsel! 🎄

I got my coloured lights working again by going through each bulb individually! 🥳

lucysmam · 28/11/2024 13:54

Oh brilliant, looks like I should try a different B&M or Home Bargains maybe! I'll message my dad...see if he fancies a drive to one of the bigger ones 😊

The suggested websites will be this evening's browsing too!

I'm glad it's not just me who enjoys the ceiling decs - we had some Wilko ones but not sure where they've got to 🤔

ALDI or LIDL (can't remember which) had fairly good tinsel last I was in.

For those asking, eBay is usually pretty good for multi coloured retro or vintage-style baubles.

givemushypeasachance · 28/11/2024 15:34

Round here we have a shop called Rajanis that has a Christmas section every year, and I swear all their stock was originally bought back in the 70s/80s. They've got an amazing line in Christmas tat, I've bought pleasingly retro freaky window stickers and things from there before.

LegoTherapy · 28/11/2024 19:46

The reviews on Amazon aren't great for the streamers but I remember them breaking easily if overstretched and having to staple them back together as a child.

CandlesOrangesRedribbon · 28/11/2024 20:11

I adore tinsel.
I remember one year it was classed as tacky.
It doesn't look tacky in my house.

Bulldog01 · 28/11/2024 20:27

I purchased x 4 green Dinosaur tinsel from the Range, I know it may sound tacky, but I really am pleased with it! @ 1.49 each it's cheap, but nice quality.Bring out the tinsel it makes Christmas fun!

LegoTherapy · 28/11/2024 23:21

My 85 year old mum is up for an 80s Christmas decorations revival🎄🎄🎄

gamerchick · 30/11/2024 15:37

I found some ceiling shizzle and the fold out hangy things in Asda. The choice was wank but they're there. The streamers are only 2.6 meters long so might need a couple to cover corner to middle the whole ceiling.

Happy now me. Happy Christmas Xmas Grin

I have some foil streamers and balls / stars from eBay. I ordered a bell shape but they sent the wrong one 😞 not worth sending back really. They're not as robust as the ones from the 80s but they'll do. We'll wait until the schools have finished before putting them up but I secretly can't wait.

lucysmam · 30/11/2024 16:06

Well, the selection in B&M was shit! & Asda only had some hanging foil stars left, so we have 6 for the mo.

I'll order the garland/streamer things on ebay when we're home.

Tinsel in B&M was scraggly & not nice looking either 😥

Tesco for tinsel!!!

InfoSecInTheCity · 30/11/2024 20:50

We have ALL the decorations up. I, possibly foolishly, left it fully in the hands of my husband and 10 yo. So not a single thing matches unless you just bunch it all in the category of 'Christmassy', the poor tree is barely holding itself up under the weight of 25 years of accumulated ornaments and there is tinsel, ceiling fan/drapey shiny things and fairy lights everywhere. It's kind of fabulous in a really really tacky way.

Poundland and B&M had the shiny drapey ceiling decorations and the fold out fan ones, Tesco had loads of really thick tinsel.

CatsBeCrazy · 30/11/2024 20:54

Sometimes on Etsy you can buy the originals :) Here's some of mine . The foils I bought on Amazon :) The lights are the originals :) I love an 80s tacky Christmas 🤣

That sounds pure mint that does. It's not Christmas unless it looks like it threw up all over. Grin

Want to put mine up now!

The range is usually tinsel central, but their offerings are not the best this year in my local one. A bit matte.
My personal faves are the holographic ones, I want my Christmas house to look like a 1980s working men’s club, I can’t help it. All tinsel and teeny bottles of babysham and cherry b’s. Festive 😃. I decorate like Del Boy.

I love your style- and your writing.

I found nice fat tinsel in Homebase last year.

I really really want some of those foil pop out chandelier things.

LegoTherapy · 02/12/2024 06:55

The Range was devoid of any Christmas decorations on Saturday. No foil things anywhere. I'll have to stick to Amazon. I'm not a tasteful Christmas tree type of person. They look beautiful but are lacking in personality and history. My tree's oldest decoration is about 50 years old.
