Thanks @IlovePond for the title.

Greetings and welcome one and all to a friendly and joyful corner of mn - the Christmas bargain thread. Here, we share Christmas present purchases, ideas, links and discount codes, with the aim to spread the Christmas magic and joy and reduce the financial stress.

It's a very busy thread, so see the tips below for helping everything run smoothly and avoiding repetitions of Cookiegate etc al. It's a lovely, friendly bunch and I'm so grateful to each and every one of you for building such a warm, fuzzy and generous spot on mn. I know I've save so much over the years and am so grateful to all of you for sharing.

Pull up a sleigh and relax with a mulled wine and mince pie, for Christmas has nearly arrived!

@ me if you need anything or you want to let me know anything - the thread moves so fast I can't always keep up so this really helps

A few pointers to make everyone’s life easier and the thread be as useful as possible:

  • It’s handy to put in bold the bargains so they’re easy to spot
  • No affiliate links
  • No need to place mark or post messages of hello or thanks at the start of a new thread - use the ‘watch thread’ button
  • Be nice or leave

The current referral thread for sharing referral codes https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/christmas/4940918-4940918-bargain-referrals-thread-6 . Please use this rather than this page to share referral links to make the sharing fair.

To make clicks links, you set it up like this only without any spaces apart from between the website and the word(s) you’re writing: www.bargainsahoyeveryonecomehere.co.uk

Thanks @RainbowZebraWarrior for the instructions below.
To make something bold, put this star * either side of the word you want to bold (with no spaces in between)

So starhellostar would look like this.

hello

Obviously use the * not the word star

Some of the below is copied and pasted from previous years, so do @ me if the links don't work

I've had an email from Flying Tiger this morning about their new app. When you sign up you get a 10% discount off of your 1st purchase, 15% off of your 2nd and 20% off of your 3rd - all need to be instore purchases.

Might be good for picking up some stocking fillers as they normally have some fun things in.

Hohohopeful · 18/11/2024 09:52

The powerbank was £5 a few weeks.ago too as I saw it posted elsewhere, but ny the time I clicked, it had vanished. So if we keep checking hopefully it will return.

I didn’t realise Victoria beckham did a beauty
range - any particular recommendations? I like the look of the brightening eye pencil but wondering if it’s a gimmick!

I can’t speak for it myself. But my extra fussy DFriend LOVES her satin Kayla eyeliners and raves about the brightening eye pencil ad would say its worth it it definitely

I would be grateful for some recommendations for cashmere fingerless gloves but not from Turtle Doves as whenever I have ordered from them, I never receive quite the colour I want. Also looking for a messenger/laptop bag for my DH. I tried looking in physical shops but not many sell them and online is difficult to judge the quality. He would prefer something not too bulky/wide and also with a luggage strap so to use on business trips. Thank you.

You need these ones. Im wearing them now and love them!

Morning!

Can anyone recommend a microphone for 5 year old girl please?

She’s not so bothered about singing into it, more just wants one that is loud so she can shout orders out to everyone.

Thank you for any help x

I am really struggling for Christmas gifts for my practical dd. She's too young for welding courses that I can find (her idea), unless one of us accompanies her (then too expensive). Can anyone recommend a good whittling set. Doesn't have to be bargainous, just good quality, or anything else to do with building your own house, growing your own food, surviving in the wild, becoming a luthier etc!!! I wish I could just buy some of the make-up offers and be done with it 😂In return, I will post an O2 bauble code once the app lets me on. It's just crashing at the moment.

Not read the full thread but I've bought DH a beavercraft whittling set. I went with the Santa one which has the wood, template and tools also comes with paints, and also bought some cut-resistant gloves as other kits come with them and it seems like a good idea! All in was £30 but there are cheaper/more expensive sets.

Mine came from Amazon as they are out of stock on the official website, but this is them here:

What's the difference between the Velvetiser and making hot chocolate in a Tassimo Machine?

The tassimo is hot chocolate powder made up with water. The velvetiser is chocolate flakes melted into hot milk. There's no comparison really, you need a velvetiser in your life!

BoilingHotand50something · 18/11/2024 10:25

@WideFootWelly definitely wait for Black Friday for Cricut bargains. Both Amazon and Cricut direct had great deals last year.

YorkshireFelix · 18/11/2024 10:26

I'd also really recommend a Velvetiser. I think they are well worth the money, but I haven't tried any of the alternatives. I've had mine 3 years now and it gets used constantly! It's so easy to use (good for kids to get involved in making their own) and super easy to clean. I like the Hotel Chocolat flakes but you can stick any kind of chocolate in there as long as you grate it. It even makes bog standard hot chocolate powder somehow magically delicious!

Isonthecase · 18/11/2024 10:29

I thought velvetiser was made by dualit anyway?

The first Diddly Squat book is called A Year on the Farm.

Benefit have this sampler set reduced to £16.80 from £28 which would make a great stocking gift. 7 samples and a bag.

Gutted to have missed the £5 powerbanks, would have been great gifts for the DC. If anyone sees it reduced like that again please do share, thanks!

@kpfragglesrock

which codes stacked on hot diamonds as I can’t get the blue light to stack?
how did you get it to go down to £8

Vimaybe · 18/11/2024 10:49

I need advice on if I should stick or twist...

Boots have the Philips 9000 beard Trimmer down to £90 (£40 off) with £10 of points. It seems like a good deal and would be DH main present, but I'm half tempted to hold off and see what others have up on a black friday weekend. So what would you do, stick or twist?

@WhyDoesItAlways

So you have to buy the machine and flakes for £100 odd?

Mine only really have hot chocolate from November but maybe that's because that's when I generally clean it ready for Christmas 😬😬😬

Do people use them a lot? £100 though!!

chocolateisavegetable · 18/11/2024 10:57

Homebase has gone into administration. Our local store is closing (some have been bought by The Range), and has everything half price. Might be useful for buying for DIY or gardening enthusiasts. Also if you have gift cards for them, use them quickly

I’ve got the lavazza one from this thread 3/4 years ago. It’s really good. Never used a velvetiser but it’s been really worth it. Kids use it most nights November - March. We just use any hot chocolate in it
