Thread 12 - the one with an extendable honk

Reastie · 17/11/2024 18:02

Thanks @IlovePond for the title.

Greetings and welcome one and all to a friendly and joyful corner of mn - the Christmas bargain thread. Here, we share Christmas present purchases, ideas, links and discount codes, with the aim to spread the Christmas magic and joy and reduce the financial stress.

It's a very busy thread, so see the tips below for helping everything run smoothly and avoiding repetitions of Cookiegate etc al. It's a lovely, friendly bunch and I'm so grateful to each and every one of you for building such a warm, fuzzy and generous spot on mn. I know I've save so much over the years and am so grateful to all of you for sharing.

Pull up a sleigh and relax with a mulled wine and mince pie, for Christmas has nearly arrived!

@ me if you need anything or you want to let me know anything - the thread moves so fast I can't always keep up so this really helps

A few pointers to make everyone’s life easier and the thread be as useful as possible:

  • It’s handy to put in bold the bargains so they’re easy to spot
  • No affiliate links
  • No need to place mark or post messages of hello or thanks at the start of a new thread - use the ‘watch thread’ button
  • Be nice or leave

The current referral thread for sharing referral codes https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/christmas/4940918-4940918-bargain-referrals-thread-6 . Please use this rather than this page to share referral links to make the sharing fair.

To make clicks links, you set it up like this only without any spaces apart from between the website and the word(s) you’re writing: www.bargainsahoyeveryonecomehere.co.uk

Thanks @RainbowZebraWarrior for the instructions below.
To make something bold, put this star * either side of the word you want to bold (with no spaces in between)

So starhellostar would look like this.

hello

Obviously use the * not the word star

Some of the below is copied and pasted from previous years, so do @ me if the links don't work

Niche request - my son loves his fluffy sleeping bag. It’s fleece-lined on the inside and fluffy on the outside, and has an inbuilt pillow. We got it from TK Maxx from a brand called Frolics.

He’s now a teenager, and it only comes up to his armpits, so if there’s a similar one for adults, I’d love to get it.

My bother in law would like an apron

I know it was a typo, but this did make me smile 😀. I’m sure many would prefer this name for their relative!

I had to read that about 10 times to actually see the typo! 😂

Thanks everyone for links for aprons but it does need to be pvc/oilcloth not cotton etc

ulster weavers are nice, just not sure the designs are ok for a man. Any more suggestions gratefully received

Jellybum2019 · 20/11/2024 11:16

Did anyone else order the Christmas potion kit from a small business? I can’t for the life of me remember the name of find them on my emails, I’m sure the dispatch date was around the middle of this month! If anyone can point me in any direction I would appreciate it!

Is this Ulster weavers one not masculine enough?

This Butcher style one at Amazon is pvc but don’t know if you had something more special in mind

Ehunt1 · 20/11/2024 11:40

If anyone is lucky enough to live near Alnwick, I’ve just been sent an email for £5 adults £3 kids tickets for tonight for Alnwick Gardens and Lillidorei. I went with my kids in the summer and they are desperate to go back(I’m over 3hrs away so can’t go tonight ☹️)

Clever Christmas elves - I need some advent calendar help please!

I have ordered this for 15 year old Dd1 but didn't do my due diligence. It hasn't arrived yet - it's been 2 weeks - and all the reviews for this company suggest it may never or will be total rubbish when it does.

Has anyone got any tips on what I could replace it with? She's had a recent birthday so doesn't want beauty, her sister's got the ASOS beauty one and will give her bits that she doesn't want. Anyone seen another stationery one that would be good for a teen or young adult. Or any other suggestions? Am getting quite panicked as it's so close to start of December!

Can anyone help with an apron for a man please.. My bother in law would like an apron for when he’s cooking. It needs to be pvc/oilcloth (not cotton). The designs I’ve seen are all a bit girly!

Etsy have a few fairly plain ones. Would your budget run to leather? Most of the mens ones are either canvas or leather.

Theraffarian · 20/11/2024 11:51

@Stowickthevast unfortunately that’s a rip off of the Martha Brooks one , which has been sold out for ages , even features her own video/ pictures, so you definitely won’t receive what you want . I would do a chargeback now depending on how you paid . She’s been copied left right and centre this year https://www.marthabrook.com/product-category/personalised-christmas-gifts/advent-calendars/

Could you get individual stationery and pop it in bags instead ?

There's a website called adventcalendar.co uk that basically rounds up a lot of the available advent calendars and you can search by category. I've found it really helpful.

The aesthetic of this Journalling kit seems similar, you could split and add nice Paper clips, washi tape (Needlessly expensive example) or washi stickers etc and put in numbered paper bags on string?
