Thanks @IlovePond for the title.

Greetings and welcome one and all to a friendly and joyful corner of mn - the Christmas bargain thread. Here, we share Christmas present purchases, ideas, links and discount codes, with the aim to spread the Christmas magic and joy and reduce the financial stress.

It's a very busy thread, so see the tips below for helping everything run smoothly and avoiding repetitions of Cookiegate etc al. It's a lovely, friendly bunch and I'm so grateful to each and every one of you for building such a warm, fuzzy and generous spot on mn. I know I've save so much over the years and am so grateful to all of you for sharing.

Pull up a sleigh and relax with a mulled wine and mince pie, for Christmas has nearly arrived!

@ me if you need anything or you want to let me know anything - the thread moves so fast I can't always keep up so this really helps

A few pointers to make everyone’s life easier and the thread be as useful as possible:

  • It’s handy to put in bold the bargains so they’re easy to spot
  • No affiliate links
  • No need to place mark or post messages of hello or thanks at the start of a new thread - use the ‘watch thread’ button
  • Be nice or leave

The current referral thread for sharing referral codes https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/christmas/4940918-4940918-bargain-referrals-thread-6 . Please use this rather than this page to share referral links to make the sharing fair.

To make clicks links, you set it up like this only without any spaces apart from between the website and the word(s) you’re writing: www.bargainsahoyeveryonecomehere.co.uk

Thanks @RainbowZebraWarrior for the instructions below.
To make something bold, put this star * either side of the word you want to bold (with no spaces in between)

So starhellostar would look like this.

hello

Obviously use the * not the word star

Some of the below is copied and pasted from previous years, so do @ me if the links don't work

Interesting Xmas gift lists in the Guardian today, apparently created by kids, which might be useful:

https://www.theguardian.com/thefilter/2024/nov/16/best-christmas-gifts-tweens-presents-ideas-slime-jellycat-toys

https://www.theguardian.com/thefilter/2024/nov/16/best-christmas-gifts-kids-teenagers-lego-fashion-beauty-adidas-trainers

Couple of weird ones - I don’t really think the writers should have left ‘a puppy’ in the tweens list, and the inclusion of block shoes in the teenagers list is very specific. (Let’s hope no one tries buying them for a non dancer!)

Apart from that, they might be useful. I was interested to see a projector made one list, given the recent discussion on here.

I'm quite impressed with the music choice. My 19 year old has just been to see Wunderhorse and loves them.

The annual sale at Portmeirion is back!!! 30% off lots of popular ranges including Wrendale, the Spode Christmas tree and Sophie Conran ranges.

John Lewis are price matching, but Portmeirion also have free gifts with spends from the respective brands
AND and you also get a boxed Christmas candle with ‘WELCOMEGIFT’.
Free Spode Christmas tree glasses
Free Sophie Conran mistletoe mugs

Thank you! Though maybe I shouldn't be thanking you given how much I'm about to spend 😂

Help,.oh wise ones. After many years of very simple chocolate advent calendars, I splashed out and treated my DH, DD and DS. All good, but I ordered a Raspberry Pi one for my son and now it's arrived it's only 12 days not 24 like everyone else's 🙈 How do I present the fact he's only got a door every two days?

Grab a tin/box of his favourite chocolate, lots on offer at the moment in supermarket seasonal aisle. A chocolate on alternate days to the calendar. Sorted.

HoffiCoffii · 20/11/2024 00:15

Great minds @fishfingersandchipsagain

HoffiCoffii · 20/11/2024 00:16

Or if he is new to Raspberry Pi you could give him a blank notebook to plan his future projects. @ArthurChristmas22

Does anyone have an Argos code they aren't using. Spending £140.

Bargain Hunters I need your help. Having decided on a Harry Potter Lego advent some time ago DD2 is now desperate for a Pokemon advent for her birthday in early Jan. I have bought myself a second advent for my late Jan birthday so have no excuses to not try and source. Except the one she has found on a safari search is this one from Argos which is sold out. The others I can find in stock on Amazon/Smyths have different figures and apparently it is only this one with the Pikachu holding candy canes which will do. The ‘other’ one has Pikachu in a green Christmas hat.

Has anyone seen this advent anywhere other than Argos?!

Here it is:

Looks like it's the 2023 version she wants

TinselTarTars · 20/11/2024 05:45

Can anyone help with an apron for a man please.. My bother in law would like an apron for when he’s cooking. It needs to be pvc/oilcloth (not cotton). The designs I’ve seen are all a bit girly!

I don't know how difficult they are but TKMaxx had lots of cute crochet lots IRL at the weekend but looks like they are online too! Also budget friendly as you could get 2 of some of them or a nice box of chocolates to pair with!

For those of us that ordered the bargain 6 month magazine subscriptions from Hearst a while back , my topcashback became payable today , so literally paid 5p for each 6 month subscription. Hope everyone else’s came through too .

YeahWellWhyNot · 20/11/2024 07:03

@Theraffarian my cashback came back too! Was gobsmacked tbh as I've already had my Christmas issue of GHK. Brilliant 😊

MsSheldonCooper · 20/11/2024 07:22

25% off Matalan today with topcashback. This works on their Black Friday deals too, so I just ordered an (already cheap) £30 pair of Soleflex chunky Chelsea boots for effectively £16.87 after the discount and cash back and it has tracked already.

if you haven’t used topcashback before, check the referrals board for a referral link for a £10 bonus to get you started. It’s free money!

Looking for inspiration-

My dd has a carer who has fairly recently started with us. She great though.

It's her birthday next week and obviously Christmas soon too.

I'd like to get her something little for her birthday and also something for Xmas too.

Any suggestions gratefully received x
