Thread 9 - the one with a kink for L’Occitaine

Thanks @Travelcrazy for the title. It really tickled me!

Greetings and welcome one and all to a friendly and joyful corner of mn - the Christmas bargain thread. Here, we share Christmas present purchases, ideas, links and discount codes, with the aim to spread the Christmas magic and joy and reduce the financial stress.

It's a very busy thread, so see the tips below for helping everything run smoothly and avoiding repetitions of Cookiegate etc al. It's a lovely, friendly bunch and I'm so grateful to each and every one of you for building such a warm, fuzzy and generous spot on mn. I know I've save so much over the years and am so grateful to all of you for sharing.

Pull up a sleigh and relax with a mulled wine and mince pie, for Christmas has nearly arrived!

@ me if you need anything or you want to let me know anything - the thread moves so fast I can't always keep up so this really helps

A few pointers to make everyone’s life easier and the thread be as useful as possible:

  • It’s handy to put in bold the bargains so they’re easy to spot
  • No affiliate links
  • No need to place mark or post messages of hello or thanks at the start of a new thread - use the ‘watch thread’ button
  • Be nice or leave

The current referral thread for sharing referral codes https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/christmas/4940918-4940918-bargain-referrals-thread-6 . Please use this rather than this page to share referral links to make the sharing fair.

To make clicks links, you set it up like this only without any spaces apart from between the website and the word(s) you’re writing: www.bargainsahoyeveryonecomehere.co.uk

Thanks @RainbowZebraWarrior for the instructions below.
To make something bold, put this star * either side of the word you want to bold (with no spaces in between)

So starhellostar would look like this.

hello

Obviously use the * not the word star

Some of the below is copied and pasted from previous years, so do @ me if the links don't work

Buying a ninja air fryer, think Argos is the best option- does anyone have a code? Spending about £120

I would wait for Black Friday but track the prices now. Amazon always have Ninja deals as do Ninja themselves.

RainbowZebraWarrior · 08/11/2024 10:05

Just a note on clarins. I was in JL this week and they were price matching the 15% off across all products. I got some of their teen range for DD, and one of my favorites. I was asked if I wanted to choose two full sized free gifts, but I couldn't see a Beauty Flash balm among them so she gave me a 30ml Beauty Flash anyway plus a lip oil, plus a lovely make up bag.

Obviously this is all 'assistant dependent' but worth noting the 15% price match and the two free gifts

My Soccer04 order has arrived this morning for anyone waiting! Don't think mine looks particularly big for a 4 year old but I think it will vary on the kits, the actual kit from the official shop is tiny so ordered bigger and looks good.

Does anyone have a recommendation for letterbox cake or brownies???

I don’t know about offers but cutter and squidge are delicious

Not Christmassy but M&S have their Halloween ghost train full of chocolates for 50p - unwrapped they’re bauble and snowman shaped, perfect for dropping in hot chocolate (and having just taste-tested four I can confirm they’re nice chocolate) 🎄

I’m hoping for some inspiration - I have a 10 year old nephew - I am out of ideas for gifts - he has a birthday just before Christmas so it’s two gifts I need - he is not your normal 10 year old - very intense super intelligent - home schooled so tends to not to care about the latest thing. Any suggestions gratefully received. Budget up to £50 for each gift.

Georgieporgie29 · 08/11/2024 11:06

What a morning of bargains! Thanks for all the recommendations for hi smile, I hot footed it to my local one and managed to get 3 of the flavours, DD will be made up.

Also ordered the Clarins offer and headphone stand offer so thanks for those.

Just a reminder that Asda offers are back on this weekend, I went into mine this morning and they seem to be popular this week so I don’t think they’ll last long. Examples are 12 cans of Pepsi max for £2 small selection box/pack 50p

Does he have special interests?

a Raspberry Pi maybe, they are for learning coding but I think you need a PC to interact with them. Have linked the advent calendar as they have little projects included but there are lots of intro sets - I have no clue about what I’m looking at sadly!

presume he already has lots of Lego…

What kinds of thing is he into? If STEM maybe an Arduino kit or Raspberry Pi kit?

fishfingersandchipsagain · 08/11/2024 11:30

@Famousthehero great minds think alike!

lemonsmum · 08/11/2024 11:31

or again, I’ve heard people mention the Turing Tumble, ‘build marble powered computers’ - they’re over your budget but there’s a new one for £50 on Ebay if you are happy to risk it

Argos have brought back the newsletter signup code £10 off £60, after temporarily running the promo for a few days earlier in the month. Terms states that it will run until 29/01/2025 so good for Black Friday period. Code comes through in a couple of minutes. Does anyone know the best place to get an oodie type hooded blanket for kids? think I remember there was a seconds oodie eBay outlet but I can’t seem to find anything. Thank you!

IlovePond · 08/11/2024 12:19

@sepsisandAKI - it’s True Face on eBay and Amazon that definitely has real Oodies if you order the right pattern but they only stock adults.

Oodie are having an excellent sale right now. Kids’ ones from £19.50:

https://theoodie.co.uk/products/oodie-breakfast-buddies-kids

Otherwise, I heartily recommend M&S or Primark for kids’ Oodie dupes. (M&S adult hooded blankets are rubbish short ponchos, the kids’ ones are great and fit adults - I am wearing my bargain cat one size 13-14 atm😹)

Breakfast Buddies

Let your little one snuggle up with an Oodie™ Originals Kids, a wearable blanket designed for endless cosy moments. Generous & Roomy – Measures 75cm Long. Designed For Kids Aged 7 To 13 Years Large Oversized Hood – For Extra Warmth Extra-Large Pock...
