Thread 9 - the one with a kink for L’Occitaine

Reastie · 04/11/2024 18:52

Thanks @Travelcrazy for the title. It really tickled me!

Greetings and welcome one and all to a friendly and joyful corner of mn - the Christmas bargain thread. Here, we share Christmas present purchases, ideas, links and discount codes, with the aim to spread the Christmas magic and joy and reduce the financial stress.

It's a very busy thread, so see the tips below for helping everything run smoothly and avoiding repetitions of Cookiegate etc al. It's a lovely, friendly bunch and I'm so grateful to each and every one of you for building such a warm, fuzzy and generous spot on mn. I know I've save so much over the years and am so grateful to all of you for sharing.

Pull up a sleigh and relax with a mulled wine and mince pie, for Christmas has nearly arrived!

@ me if you need anything or you want to let me know anything - the thread moves so fast I can't always keep up so this really helps

A few pointers to make everyone’s life easier and the thread be as useful as possible:

  • It’s handy to put in bold the bargains so they’re easy to spot
  • No affiliate links
  • No need to place mark or post messages of hello or thanks at the start of a new thread - use the ‘watch thread’ button
  • Be nice or leave

The current referral thread for sharing referral codes https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/christmas/4940918-4940918-bargain-referrals-thread-6 . Please use this rather than this page to share referral links to make the sharing fair.

To make clicks links, you set it up like this only without any spaces apart from between the website and the word(s) you’re writing: www.bargainsahoyeveryonecomehere.co.uk

Thanks @RainbowZebraWarrior for the instructions below.
To make something bold, put this star * either side of the word you want to bold (with no spaces in between)

So starhellostar would look like this.

hello

Obviously use the * not the word star

Some of the below is copied and pasted from previous years, so do @ me if the links don't work

Wonderful! Just ordered. Thank you.

I have had no offers at all from John Lewis for about 3 months now. I think I’m going to start again with a new account.

I’m wondering if it’s because I have left an item in my basket?

Haveyoubrushedyourteeth · 06/11/2024 21:53

Dd would like a Dyson Airwrap but I'm feeling a bit sick at the price. Can anyone tell me if they're as good as the hype? Eldest Dd wanted GHD's 10 years ago, when she was 13 like youngest Dd, and they were worth every penny and still going strong. If the Airwrap is going to be as big a hit as those then I'll bite the bullet and buy, if not then I'll nudge her towards other options.

I have one - it’s really good IMO worth the cost - my hair is very curly so I use it to tame the curls - my DD has straight hair and uses it to put curls in.

NorthantsNewbie · 06/11/2024 22:07

@Ceejadess I’m catching up so you may have more replies but didn’t want to lose you - I’m really impressed with their stuff. I had a bracelet with a stone in and the stone fell out - website said there was a guarantee so I messaged them, sent a few photos/videos of the damage as requested and had a new replacement within a week. Would definitely use them again!

IlovePond · 06/11/2024 22:09

It’s weird @fishfingersandchipsagain - I never usually get anything so exciting from JL and my Sparks offers are usually 15% off prepared salads or babywear, (neither of which I am in the market for😹)

IlovePond · 06/11/2024 22:13

Thanks for the suggestion of Olaplex - hair care is a good shout@HopefulBeliever

I will let you know what I find @WhereTheresAHill

It’s a very generous deal. I usually get £20 off a £150 spend on electronics of something similar from JL - offers that are totally wasted on me. It’s nice to get something I can use.

I don’t know if it helps but I bought an Airstrait earlier this year as Dyson let me spread payments over 6 months interest free.

Givealittlebit · 06/11/2024 22:24

@Beingacatbed ooh I just have the option on my Amazon shopper ones to upload receipts for a voucher? No idea why it's not the same - maybe they only let a certain number of people on it?

Fancyateapottea · 06/11/2024 22:25

Thanks for sharing the Disney codes

FREEDEL gives free delivery at Debenhams.

TheCrow · 06/11/2024 22:42

I just signed up for JL rewards, it gave me a 1.5 hour timer before I could access them then gave me a free hot drink and cake in their cafe which was nice and will be very welcome on an upcoming Christmas shopping trip 🙂

Thanks for this great thread. Can anyone recommend a good beard trimmer?

I bought my DH this amzn.to/4hG9tJ1 last year. I initially bought him a cheaper one from Argos but it wasn't good at all.

Karlkennedyslovechild · 06/11/2024 22:50

Thanks for the John Lewis tip. I had £15 off beauty so got the Sol de Janeiro set DD was looking for half price. Made up!

Need some advice on teachers’s gifts. DD has started secondary so whats the accepted norm for presents? Anything? Tutor?

FreeFromChoc · 06/11/2024 23:00

Sorry I don’t know how to do links. But this is a great price at £12, it’s £35 on Argos. It’s also £11.99 at Smyths but out of stock in a lot of places

AUK6AYKPDTPZ £6 off £60 argos code that expires at midnight

I've got a "fill your tin with a single flavour" quality street reward on john lewis. I'm presuming the chocolate is free if I take or buy a tin but it's not clear at all! Anyone else got this one?

A few people have asked about abbot lyon recently. I bought myself and my friend a ring with a birth stone in and we both lost the stones on the first wear. I was embarrassed gifting it. I cant fault customer service but they just gave a credit note and no option of a refund. I wouldnt use them again personally but that doesn't mean the other items will have issues. Its just put me off.

Not normally done at secondary school, however my DDS tutor was fantastic so we put a Costa gift card in a tiny gift bag with a note to have a coffee and cake on us in the holidays. She loved it
(was originally going to put it in her Christmas card but was worried she might not open it!)

I’ve got this and when you look at the terms it’s ‘when you purchase a tin of quality street’, so not much of a ‘reward’ at all…

I’ve spent a bit with them this year, so I’m not impressed.

I don't think I will be using that 'reward'

Thelifeofawife · 06/11/2024 23:25

@woodwaj @tealbead I got this offer, it doesn’t say you have to buy a tin, it says when you buy or bring a pre-loved tin.

I also got a £5 off next shop voucher

I love mine. It’s a bit fiddly changing each attachment for certain things but it’s a great tool and the best thing I have ever used for curling my hair!
It might be worth looking out for one on Black Friday. They are extremely expensive

Thank you for this- just snapped one up! My DD has asked for a 'robot unicorn' for Christmas, so I'm hoping this will do!
