I'm going for it this evening - which one shall I kick off with?
I'm thinking probably The Holiday

Oo I love it!
Im home alone tomorrow night and plan to watch my first one. One of my friends said she watched a new one on Netflix called This Is Christmas and said it was a good easy watch, so I might go for that one.
My all time fave is Nativity 2!

OriginalShutters · 03/11/2024 16:11

I am the mother of a Christmas-loving 12 year old. Which means that I regularly am subjected to Deck the Halls and The Santa Clause in July. He kicked off ‘official’ (as in post-Halloween) Christmas film season last night with Nativity!

Oh, I prefer the first Nativity…Is Nativity 2 the one with David Tennant playing twins?

That’s the one, it really cracks me up! Me and mum watch it together every year 🎄

Minihero · 03/11/2024 16:28

I love the Nativity films but have to watch them with my kids - they love them too!

This is Christmas looks really good but it looks like it's Sky Cinema rather than Netflix?

I actually might go for Last Christmas, that Emilia Clarke one

They’re surprisingly effective films. I think the kids are so much ordinary, goofy, wonky-toothed children, not stage school types, and Jason Watkins is a genius…

Actually, can anyone suggest any of those cheesy Hallmark-style Christmas films likely to appeal to a Christmas-loving 12 year old? He (weirdly) liked Falling for Christmas with Lindsay Lohan and Best Christmas Ever with Heather Graham, so anything suggestions of similar but not too romance-focused would be great, as I can’t face watching Deck the Halls, The Christmas Chronicles 1 and 2, The Santa Clause, Arthur Christmas etc etc over and over.

@BehindTheSequinsandStilettos haha got to love an "erotically complicated romcom"

The tagline to Hot Frosty isn’t “This Christmas, forget about your dead husband by having it off with some snow,” but it probably should be.

November 13th people!!
I will start a group watching thread next Wednesday evening! Wink

Oo no sorry for misinformation, I thought she’d said Netflix, that’s annoying as I wanted to watch it tomorrow but don’t have sky cinema… I’ll have to find another!

I love Last Christmas with Emilia Clarke, such a clever one!

@BehindTheSequinsandStilettos count me in

@LouH5 there's a couple of good looking ones on Netflix though, about to check Disney and Prime

I love the bad Xmas films on Channel 5. Currently watching Christmas in Notting Hill

Me too, I always set these to record automatically 🤣 in fact I’ve probs got some left over from last year to still get through!

ilovelamp82 · 03/11/2024 16:50

I always try and leave the bigger ones until December, but I like to start with ones like While you were sleeping, or Christmas with the Kranks, the kids put the animated Grinch on today though. I'm currently rewatching Gavin and Stacey ready for Christmas day. I'm embarrassingly excited and sad for the last ever one on Christmas day in equal measure.

I've been eyeing up A Paris Christmas Waltz. It looks ridiculous, and perfect.

A shoutout for The Family Stone!

@Minihero you won't regret it. A total fest of Xmas cheesiness.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 03/11/2024 17:06

Ooh yes "This Is Christmas" is lovely

My list this year:
Last Train to Christmas -not seen it yet but looks funny
Red One- at the cinema when it comes out

On Dec 1st , my DD has decided we'll watch Love Actually
Then in the lead up
Lost Christmas -Eddie Izzard
Last Christmas -Emilia Clarke

and not films but in my Must Have List-
League of Gents Christmas
Inside No 9- The Devil of Christmas

BehindTheSequinsandStilettos · 03/11/2024 17:09

original Lilo's back at the end of November with Our Little Secret. It's similar to ExMas on Prime in that leads with a shared history are pitted together. Possibly too romcommy for your son but Falling for Xmas was awesome.

It's the best Christmas film.

mogtheexcellent · 03/11/2024 17:21

@OriginalShutters My DD loves Christmas Cupcakes (has already been on Great Christmas so it should be on the Great TV player) The judges are hilarious

Personally Im looking forward to this netlix offering the merry gentlemen

Girls saves her bar by putting on a male strippers show
