Feeling quite delighted to have most of the dc’s shopping done and under €500 so far! I can tend to go crazy at Christmas 😬

I have spent €436 so far. And I have bought

DD11
Jumper
Nike leggings
Sephora goodies -bath bombs, lip gloss, hair oil, travel containers.
Initialled Glass cup
Small panda bag for accessories
Panda Teddy
Sanitary wear bag
Slushy maker
New York jigsaw
Eiffel Tower puzzle
Socks
MGA miniverse set
Full length Mirror for her bedroom
clothes rail for her bedroom
Small panda ornament
Panda hair towel
Panda face mitt
Nintendo sports game
Nintendo sports accessory pack

DS9
Hoody
Lion teddy
Elephant teddy
Football pen Holder
Vbucks voucher
Fidget popper game
Darts board

I still have a good bit to get for DS though he is getting a PlayStation (second hand) and a game and couple of Lego sets.

DD is pretty much done I might pop into primark and get some baskets for the bottom shelf of the clothes rail and pjs etc

Have you totalled your spend so far?

They are not all huge gifts, a good portion of them are tiny little gifts that some people would call ā€œstocking fillersā€. I don’t do a stocking so for me, I just buy the little cute things I wrapped them and I put them under the tree. My DC have never in their lives counted the number of presents under the tree. They are very grateful children and they accept everything they get and they are always delighted. And you’re right, we will both do what we need to do to make our Christmas special.

Definitely don’t start the stocking or sack thing op. Not sure what processed me to do it as we never had them growing up and I loved the image of loads of presents under the tree Christmas morning. I’ve had to shuffle things around to not take that away due to stockings and sacks being added to our Christmas traditions. I now fill the stockings with chocolates and buy something bulky to fill out the sacks just for the sake of it.

purplespink · 21/10/2024 17:44

@Positivenancy you did a great job getting all of that for what you paid Smile I hope that you and your DC have a lovely Christmas Smile

Shocked at people saying their DC only get a satsuma.
I make mine save up and buy their own satsuma.
They eat it when we're back from our Christmas Day volunteering at the soup kitchen.
I don't have a satsuma at all - I'll still be full from the pasta I'll have eaten on bonfire night.

Sorry, it was insensitive of me to mention soup AND satsumas during a cost of living crisis.

Not everyone goes Christmas the same way.
My kids had small ish stockings that were filled with unusual sweets / things they wouldn't normally get throughout the year, like imported stuff (back when it was hard to just buy American or Japanese treats in the supermarket) or special edition things.
Under the tree were the 'proper' presents. Other people have their own, different traditions.

Mamatolittlemonsters · 21/10/2024 19:12

I love this!

weve had to cut back a bit this year due to an extra baby on the way and needing stuff for her, buying the boys bunk beds and a leaky roof šŸ˜‚ and I’ve had to start my maternity early due to being poorly šŸ™ˆ

Normally we’ve spent about Ā£300 each on the kids but with the expensive year we’ve had we’ve put it down to Ā£200 for the older 2 and I think I’ve spent about Ā£120 on the baby on things she’ll need in the first year. My eldest is pretty much done (just two presents left to get) and I’ve only got my middle ones main present yet (more because his birthday is in a couple of weeks so need to work out what to buy). Even wrapped in colour coded wrapping paper 🤣

Weve booked 3 Christmassy days out (one we’ve treated my dad and step mum too because they’d rather have the memories than stuff) so just something little off the kids to buy. We’ve still got family presents to buy šŸ™ˆ

I’ve also managed to buy most of the cupboard food needed for Christmas and I’ll pick up stocking fillers as I do the food shopping for the kids. Me and DH has said we’re scaling down for us and seeing what’s left and we will just go shopping nearer the time for us but we’ve both got our favourite boxes of chocolates and favourite alcohol šŸ˜‚

Its probably the most organised I’ve been with shopping and wrapping 🤣

Ilovetravelling · 21/10/2024 19:23

Kids definitely get too much spent on them today. I have seen my grandchildren get fed up of opening them as the presents are piled so high. This is why kids don't appreciate things these days.

All that little anecdote tells us is that your grandkids have too much spent on them and that they don’t appreciate things.
My children have never got fed up opening presents, don’t have too much spent on them, and do appreciate things.

laraitopbanana · 21/10/2024 19:29

Done my children Xmas too šŸ˜Ž
and I have orded all the sockings so should be there soon
and I have almost done the ā€œOctober/Novemberā€ boxes we do with new beddings, new pjs & slippers, Xmas clothes

very proud of myself indeed 🫣

Same here.

we have a limited number of ā€œindividual giftsā€ and then we also have a limited number of ā€œsharing giftsā€. Whatever is in your sock is for you to eat when you want 🤣

Not sure about being reasonable unreasonable, but you are coming across as flipping smug and self-satisfied.

Positivenancy · 21/10/2024 10:48

Yeah I didn’t respond to this idea at the time because I just thought it was ridiculous! I literally know NO ONE who does this to their DC. My DD is a great saver…unlike her brother!šŸ˜‚ but he’s getting better and if they want to save for something then they can…if they want to ask for it for Christmas then they can. My DD asked for the clothes rail and stuff for her bedroom as her main gifts. The Nintendo items are a bonus gift from me as she is the best child, she has had a tough year with her parents separating. She gives me no grief, she’s dedicated, plays sports, plays guitar and works hard at school. She deserves every single thing she gets.

DS is a saver too but buys things he wants.

He gets clothes or trainers through the year but Christmas and birthdays are more special clothes such as more expensive trainers or football tops or basketball jerseys

DS wanted a specific storage unit for his birthday this year so he got it.

Everything you listed for your daughter, to me, doesn't seem wasteful at all because everything on there is usable and useful!

CommonAsMucklowe · 21/10/2024 20:52

I've bought the dog a treat advent calendar and that's it.

There's a few posts here on the Christmas board where people have started buying gifts etc. Do you get through them and tell them the same?

If you're not interested in doing your shopping till December, why come onto a specific board and bitchplop all over it?

What's a sanitary wear bag?

A bag/pouch to put sanitary ware in.

I have one, I keep 3 pads and paracetamol in there so it's altogether and easy to find in my bag.

DinahSlade · 21/10/2024 21:00

My eldest two are 11 and 9 and there's hardly anything in that list that they would want/ask for/know what that is!
That's not meant as a criticism, just interested me how different it is. Do they not want any art supplies or craft stuff? No books??

Calliopespa · 21/10/2024 21:05

Positivenancy · 20/10/2024 17:03

I’m not done for him yet…and he’s getting a PlayStation which is a big gift I suppose. I will get him a few other little bits too.

Don’t you think you will keep going now until Christmas - esp since you normally go a bit crazy? Then they will end up with masses…

There are jigsaws which fall loosely in that role.

Jessie1259 · 21/10/2024 21:12

DS is an adult OP and I still get him lots of stuff - and have got most of it already. A lot is from the charity shop, things like puzzles and board games or else from ebay. Once we're done with it it'll go back to the charity shop again at some point. I like to get everything well ahead of time and so pick bits up through the year, it's great when you feel like you're sorted! Have a fantastic Christmas! It's so exciting to be a child waking up to lots of presents, I got so excited about a pen that could become a bracelet and a notepad shaped like a burger. I remember it so well even at 50!

My 3 year old loves spot the dog, we read the books every night. Spotted a vintage plush in the charity shop for Ā£5.50, sounds expensive for a soft toy from the charity shop but it is 1993! It’s what I love about the charity shops you never know what you’re gonna get and sometimes it’s perfect!

It’s Spot!!! Adorable. Have you got one of the books to go with it?

Think OP said she bought books through the year rather than for Christmas presents.

ColdWaterDipper · 21/10/2024 21:16

Yes I have spent Ā£0 so far on Christmas šŸ˜‚ I will be getting both boys (10 & 12) some toys, a few books and some sports equipment they want. They are quite hard to buy for as they don’t ever want much (which is also great as it must mean they are content with what they already have). Both like PokĆ©mon cards so I’m sure there will be some of those in their stockings and advent calendars. They aren’t interested in any tech, clothes or toiletries yet.

I didn't. It popped up on MY feed. The last thing I'm interested in is people bigging themselves up about how much money they've spent/how 'proud' they are about shopping (lol) as if it's an actual achievement.
