Feeling quite delighted to have most of the dc’s shopping done and under €500 so far! I can tend to go crazy at Christmas 😬

I have spent €436 so far. And I have bought

DD11
Jumper
Nike leggings
Sephora goodies -bath bombs, lip gloss, hair oil, travel containers.
Initialled Glass cup
Small panda bag for accessories
Panda Teddy
Sanitary wear bag
Slushy maker
New York jigsaw
Eiffel Tower puzzle
Socks
MGA miniverse set
Full length Mirror for her bedroom
clothes rail for her bedroom
Small panda ornament
Panda hair towel
Panda face mitt
Nintendo sports game
Nintendo sports accessory pack

DS9
Hoody
Lion teddy
Elephant teddy
Football pen Holder
Vbucks voucher
Fidget popper game
Darts board

I still have a good bit to get for DS though he is getting a PlayStation (second hand) and a game and couple of Lego sets.

DD is pretty much done I might pop into primark and get some baskets for the bottom shelf of the clothes rail and pjs etc

Have you totalled your spend so far?

Get those eyes rolling šŸ˜‚ I’m that person! Organisation is key šŸ™Œ

That's fab OP, love it! Star My Christmas wrapping box is coming down from loft this week.

PeloMom · 20/10/2024 19:25

@Whothefuckdoesthat i may be projecting as when I was a kid I’d get jumpers and clothing for gifts often and hated it as those things were stuff I should have anyway and if I do have enough of the additional gifts are ā€˜unnecessary’ and I’d rather have gotten chocolates, toys and other fun things. So u e made it a point that in our house hold necessities, clothes etc aren’t considered gifts especially for occasions like Xmas or birthdays.

I get that. I think most of us project from our childhoods. I certainly do. And it’s great that you can separate necessities and gifts. I was just making the point that looking at the list of stuff that the OP has bought and telling her that your DS wouldn’t register some of those things as a gift, could be taken in the spirit in which you meant it, or it could have been taken as really bloody rude and coming from a place of privilege, because so many people don’t have a choice.

I’m not saying that anyone should lie about what they’ve spent just in case someone else can’t afford to spend the same and it upsets them. We’re all in different positions. I just think that if you’re going to comment on someone else’s spending, a bit of thoughtfulness wouldn’t go amiss sometimes.

Mine get clothes all year round but they still like clothes as gifts šŸ¤·šŸ»ā€ā™€ļø.

Positivenancy · 20/10/2024 19:52

Mine get clothes year round when needed too, but not Nike leggings every time. They are a treat and I know she will be ecstatic!

Jeez, there are some nasty bastards on this thread!

It's not 'poor form' for OP to talk about what she's bought her dc, col crisis or not - some people have money, some don't! Such is life! If everyone avoided all mention of their lives in case someone else got upset about it, this site would be empty.

Just because a thread is (was) in Aibu, that doesn't mean it's okay to act like a cunt.
Whether you personally approve of OP's present choices is neither here nor there - she knows what her own kids will value!

I think the OP has done well to get ahead.

If you bought then branded clothes all year round, you'd be told you were spoiling them, but if you buy them for Xmas, you get told that clothes are rubbish presents. Mumsnet is wild. šŸ˜‚

The mirror and the clothes rail are not Christmas presents. They’re things you should provide as standard - it’s like someone getting you a plug extension lead as a gift.

My parents got me shelving units for my room one Christmas when I was about 15. I was pretty chuffed tbh šŸ¤·ā€ā™€ļø

Flowertopz · 20/10/2024 20:18

well done getting it all done early. I’ve done all mine two adult sons and husband it’s all been wrapped up aswell nothing worse than having to do it closer to Xmas when the shops are rammed and I don’t like to use my November pay I like to be finished the end of October so November and December can be chilled out I’ve saved my Asda pounds so can use that for all the Chocs and treats and booked us a table for Xmas dinner out . Just waiting to put the tree up now 🤣🤣

Bournetilly · 20/10/2024 20:19

I don’t think you’ve brought a load of tat and I think they are great gifts for DC of them ages. They are the sort of things 11 year olds want. Also can’t believe how many people think it’s too early to be Christmas shopping.

Ive spent about Ā£650 so far on my 2 DC. Youngest will be 1 though and has loads of toys from my eldest so doesn’t really need anything. Theve both got micro scooters as their main presents so that was about Ā£350 but they will last a few years. I’ve got about Ā£250 left to spend on them.

Id rather get it done earlier then we can enjoy December. We will still have days out (weekend away, santas grotto, polar express, breakfast with Santa, panto & a soft play party are booked so far).

Other than DC I just have my DH and mum to buy for so will start that once I’ve finished shopping for DC.

Imjustlikeyou · 20/10/2024 20:21

My 3 year old loves spot the dog, we read the books every night. Spotted a vintage plush in the charity shop for Ā£5.50, sounds expensive for a soft toy from the charity shop but it is 1993! It’s what I love about the charity shops you never know what you’re gonna get and sometimes it’s perfect!

Yeah šŸ˜‚ she’s so curious. It’s a bit of a waiting game that pops into conversation every so often. There’s nothing wrong with that.

There's nothing wrong with that, op. I remember a lot of conversations with my cousin around that age about periods. It is perfectly normal to be curious at that age about the changes ahead. I wish I was as organised as you. So far, I've bought a Lego set for ds2. And a couple of bits for my nephew. I know people are saying it's only October, but I think it's good to spread the cost. I also have a lot of birthdays between now and January. It's an expensive time of year for me!

Around the same age I got stuff for my bedroom for my birthday. I was thrilled. I'd had it decorated and these were extras like a painting and comfy chair etc.

Wow this thread, all I have to say is well done OP, you’ve done really well. I’m nearly done also but I will not be posting a list of what I’ve bought or spent on my Dc and family as people will no doubt be offended.

I'd also like to say you know your children best and know what they like/ consider as presents. People saying you’ve bought tat is just silly. Hope you all have a wonderful Christmas.

Sorry, not my business, but can't help thinking FGS get them some nice books! How can you spend hundreds of € and not a single book?

Ah because books is something I never say no to…if they take interest in a book or series or if they ask for one I will get it no questions asked. Dd is currently reading Harry Potter and DS flits between diary of a wimpy kid series and his sister’s roald Dahl set.

This!

mine get quite spoiled with clothes, they want or need something they get it, but I don’t throw money at expensive items or brands, I shop in supermarkets, charity shops, vinted. Anything that’s not a basic or found in an incredible sale will be purchased as a gift for birthday or Christmas. My DD has been after a pair of converse all year, we’ve looked on vinted, check every charity shop we pass but haven’t found her a pair so she is getting the exact ones she wants for Christmas, that dosnt mean I’m not taking her shopping for trainers next week because she needs new ones for school, but they will be the cheapest I find.

Why buy books when they get books to read from school, we also live within walking distance to a library and several charity shops, one that only sells books, all of which we visit regularly. The only ways I’d gift anyone a book is if it looks new or really wanted, I’m not paying new book prices when I can buy 2nd hand or borrow from a public library, unless I really have to.

Why??

Not everyone needs books! They are not the best all and end all
