Thanks @Felith for the title!

It was a toughie to pick the thread title this time!
Thanks to @RainbowZebraWarrior for the title Xmas Grin For those interested, our fate is best before June of next year and the offer was regarding Guylian choices at B&M.

Greetings and welcome one and all to a friendly and joyful corner of mn - the Christmas bargain thread. Here, we share Christmas present purchases, ideas, links and discount codes, with the aim to spread the Christmas magic and joy and reduce the financial stress.

It's a very busy thread, so see the tips below for helping everything run smoothly and avoiding repetitions of Cookiegate etc al. It's a lovely, friendly bunch and I'm so grateful to each and every one of you for building such a warm, fuzzy and generous spot on mn. I know I've save so much over the years and am so grateful to all of you for sharing.

Pull up a sleigh and relax with a mulled wine and mince pie, for Christmas has nearly arrived!

@ me if you need anything or you want to let me know anything - the thread moves so fast I can't always keep up so this really helps

A few pointers to make everyone’s life easier and the thread be as useful as possible:

  • It’s handy to put in bold the bargains so they’re easy to spot
  • No affiliate links
  • No need to place mark or post messages of hello or thanks at the start of a new thread - use the ‘watch thread’ button
  • Be nice or leave

The current referral thread for sharing referral codes https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/christmas/4940918-4940918-bargain-referrals-thread-6 . Please use this rather than this page to share referral links to make the sharing fair.

To make clicks links, you set it up like this only without any spaces apart from between the website and the word(s) you’re writing: www.bargainsahoyeveryonecomehere.co.uk

Thanks @RainbowZebraWarrior for the instructions below.
To make something bold, put this star * either side of the word you want to bold (with no spaces in between)

So starhellostar would look like this.

hello

Obviously use the * not the word star

Some of the below is copied and pasted from previous years, so do @ me if the links don't work

Any science kit bargains suitable for a 6 year old been spotted? Like grow your own crystals or bicarbonate soda and vinegar reactions? 🎄

Agree with @ramonaquimby about putting your own kit together. There's a book by Roald Dahl 'George's Marvellous Experiments'. My grandson loves the experiments in the book items.they use 'normal' household

siansattic · 13/10/2024 21:15

Sorry. Use normal household items

@Elphaba17 - I saved half of last year’s sock advent extravaganza for this Xmas - looking forward to discovering days 7-12!

That was a great idea to do that, the glitch that keeps on giving 😂

Looks like you can potentially buy the wooden Morrisons toys online now?

Just to add, I think it is very reasonably priced for some decent little food sets! Resisting as I’ve already got the Melissa and Doug sandwich shop plus a hey duggee toy baking set as much as it does look fab, I don’t think I physically have anywhere to put lots of extra bits and bobs!

Someone wanted a Dyson hairdryer.

Thank you. It was me looking for one. I’ve just purchased that from QVC. Will try and add a referral code to the referral thread as it give £10 off a first order.
thank you so much

BananaWoman999 no, I'm still getting the error message, I don't want to put you to any more trouble though and appreciate your response.

I’m getting DH a coffee one, either Nespresso or Pact. He’s more practical and wouldn’t appreciate a skincare one although he did enjoy last years unexpected sock advent 😂

What a great idea (the coffee calender)
Have you had a Pact one before? Not sure weather to go for it. Do they ever do discount codes?

Sorry if this has been posted already, but there’s a tamagotchi for £10 on Amazon.

Thanks. Just got one!

Aldi - good for popping away for Christmas too. Our elf likes to leave little treats now and again plus stocking fillers etc. only until the 20th

@PinkPanther27 - thanks so much for asking. DS wasn’t getting anywhere with Amazon yesterday, then a couple of hours ago, out of the blue, Amazon guy number 3 rocks up. DH gave the code, but kept the guy on the doorstep whilst he checked the earbuds were present. They were - phew!

Oh that's good to hear. It's so worrying when it's a big, expensive purchase. Glad all is well 😊

Ilovepugs2017 · 13/10/2024 23:15

Look fantastic are offering a free mystery box when spending £75 on the app!

Can anyone remember the place that did the really good look-a-like football kits?
Both mine want the new season ones and at £80+ it's not feasible....

Ilovepugs2017 · 13/10/2024 23:54

For anyone who’s never ordered off look fantastic before….

I was looking for Armani stronger with you aftershave for DS and noticed it’s 20% off on there so signed up for an account and downloaded their app. When I added it to basket there was an offer that was auto applied £10 off when you spend £25!

Aftershave was originally £62 for 50ml then 20% off which brought it down to £49.60 then the extra £10 off meant I had it for £39.60 in the end with free delivery!

🚚

soo happy 😀

Anyone come across cheap, cheerful, and extremely random gadgets? Me and dp do a 'joke' gift each year, he's had a can opener, hair drain unclogger, etc, in previous years. The gist is will be used, but weird out of context. I'm stumped this year...

Edit to add he has also had a nose hair trimmer (which was requested several times, I'm not mean) ;)

Edited

My mum and a friend used to have a similar gift exchange every year their theme was 'guess what' - they got handed over on Christmas Eve and you had to declare your answer on New Year's Eve (they would usually see each other on those days for parties). Over those years they never repeated anything nor did they end up getting the same thing the same year!

Lots of the things they exchanged have now become a little more mainstream and can now be found in places like Lakeland so it would be worth checking them out but some of the more fun things that stick out in memory include (and most of which can be found on eBay and/or Amazon:

Cubed egg mould for hard boiled eggs (these days check out amazon egg cubed mould but they also have lots of shaped ones for Japanese bento boxes and rice moulds

Corn on the cob kernel remover - corn on the cob remover 1 corn on the cob stripper 2

silicone spoon rest/lid lifter 1
silicone spoon holder/lid rest 2
silicone lid rest
silicone cup lid/cover
easy spreader butter knife - great if you have hard butter that you can't spread easily
egg knocker - to decapitate eggs
turkey forks - ours only get used rarely but so useful whenever we do have a joint
meat claws -if you like pulled meat
pineapple corer.peeler/slicer
pineapple eye remover
strawberry huller
sandwich shape cutter - lots of different ones

It's late so I've just put a link to the first I've round of many of these things - they give the idea and explanation but do a quick search for each thing as I haven't searched for the best priced one.

Also the kitchen thing that has bought me most joy this year has been an oil spray from Amazon - I had a bigger than usual bottle of good rapeseed oil, that was difficult to drizzle. Found a nice spray bottle on amazon that looks like this, but mine is mustard yellow colour top, sprays and pours, but just does it really nicely and is a great way to get a little oil nicely over things - it just is really satisfying to use! Bought it through dh's prime account so I can't see which one it was at the moment but can check later if you're interested.

Throw throw burrito Extreme outdoor edition is £8.90 on Amazon which I know has been popular in previous threads

@wibdib great post! I have the oil bottle you mentioned above and agree it's brilliant. I'm giving one to my parents this year for Christmas it's so useful.

I’ve not had the calendar but we’ve had a subscription to Pact on and off and love the coffee so imagine the calendar will be great. I think I’m going to go with that one as DH got an aeropress for his birthday and it would be perfect for that.

there’s £5 off the calendar at the minute, not sure if it will go lower. There are always discount codes for new subscriptions etc but this is the first year I’ve noticed the advent calendar tbh.
