@vivajen hasn't posted on MN for a year so I've taken the bull by the horns. I can't wait any longer !
Wherever you are, Fellatio, here's to you. I hope you're brining a turkey and had crafting authentic organic woven tinsel somewhere.
"OK, first of all, I know it's still September by we need to start this thread now because as you all know, having a truly Poncetastic Christmas involves precision planning, strategy, bravery, heroics, and frequently martyrdom.
So, if you, like me, actually want to make the next twelve weeks of your life a misery by hand-crafting your cards, finding a huge bucket for Nigella's turkey in brine, pickling pears, shrivelling oranges in a low oven for those rustic au naturel decorations, dragging half a holly bush back from the woods, and just generally being a smug annoying jobs worth ponce, join me on this thread.
Feel free to post photos of previous tree-trimming, cake icing or table centrepiece triumphs, discuss this year's bauble colour themes, debate the merits of Delia versus Gordon, road-test a selection of canapés and cocktails, (all in the line of duty) and link to lovely inspirational photos/craft ideas for a truly Poncetastic Christmas.
Warning: If your idea of a good Christmas involves Pizza, ITV, gravy granules or anything with 'Aunt Bessie’s' on the packet, this is not the thread for you".

@LaChatte those are looking beautiful! Have you had any time to do more today?

I've been collecting brass and glass candle sticks at car boots/charity shops over the summer. Can't wait to put them all together. Hope they look as good on my sideboard as they do in my head 🤣

@LemonTurdCart I had to Google seitan, what does it taste like?

Today I've been upcycling a set of 3 metal stars I found on vinted. They were a bit bashed up so I've covered them in gold vinyl and am currently bedazzling them with pearls and rhinestones

Well I've been getting on with what I've got at home. Didn't go into town as I've realised our tree is in a corner so the star doesn't need to be double sided, I think I'm going to get away with it!

@LaChatte that's absolutely beautiful! Well done!

LaChatte · 26/10/2024 17:39

Now I've got to stich and glue the whole thing together 😅😅

MissMaryBennet · 26/10/2024 19:01

Hi everyone I am definitely not up to the standard of this thread but I am after some help please. I have some gold spray paint that I rashly promised my 8 yr old we could use nearer Christmas time to make some decorations with. But I am not really sure what! Best I can come up with is salt dough cut out into stars and then spray paint those.

Any better ideas please?

If you have any fir trees nearby you could collect some pine cones and go to town on them with the gold spray then use them as baubles for your Xmas tree.

Where. Did. I. Put. The. Fabric. Glue?

lucysmam · 26/10/2024 20:19

@LaChatte if your star doesn't need to be double sided then you should be ok! It is lovely, and I like how quickly it's coming together. Would you mind linking again please - one for next year I think!

I've had an odd sort of day. Productive but a bit shitty. Cc is sat beside me to finish the intro but not feeling it. Crochet on the other side - not feeling that either but that needs to be done quickly. Maybe bed time is in order 🤷‍♀️

LemonTurdCart · 26/10/2024 20:27

@MissMaryBennet could you spay some big shapely twigs/small branches gold, pop them in a vase and hang a few baubles from them? This sort of thing

I feel your pain I accidentally agreed to make a gingerbread house today and my 3 year old never forgets. I don’t even like gingerbread!

I would go to bed but the clocks go back tonight and I really can’t face a 4.30am start. I very rarely get past 5.30 these days and want to go to a really good craft fair tomorrow but it’s the other end of the island! 30 miles! ( Small island living does that to you! That far?! I will need my passport and a sleeping bag!)
I have been doing embroidery today instead of cross stitch but I NEED @LaChatte star!

Peacheese · 26/10/2024 20:29

@LaChatte that looks amazing! Have you got a link for the pattern? :)

NowLightOneThousandChristmasLights · 26/10/2024 20:32

@LemonTurdCart I'd get a preassembled one and let him/her stick the sweets on! I think you can get them for £5 which isn't bad! Less work for you and everyone's happy.

This is the pattern, I was hesitant about paying so much for a pattern but it's definitely worth it as it's very detailed. You do need to buy stuff like sticky soluble paper and metallic felt. I daren't work out how much the actual star will have cost by the time I've finished 😅

lucysmam · 26/10/2024 21:15

@LaChatte thank you, I've added it to my favourites for when I want to add to my to make pile 🤣 I think about next year.

@HannahDefoesTrenchcoat shortbread house sounda like it might be more likely to be eaten here! I've bookmarked the page so I'll see it again & have a better look.

Zitouna · 26/10/2024 23:59

I think someone mentioned making advent calendars. In total awe of all the Christmas ponceing so briefly delurking to say that I made this one a few years ago and it is still one of my kids’ (and my!) favourite things about Christmas. www.purlsoho.com/advent-calendar-pattern.html

Confusedmeanderings · 27/10/2024 00:07

Thank you @HannahDefoesTrenchcoat for mentioning this thread on the Christmas Chronicles read along thread. I came to have a look and I'd like to stay please!

HannahDefoesTrenchcoat · 27/10/2024 03:44

@Confusedmeanderings welcome

NowLightOneThousandChristmasLights · 27/10/2024 06:36

👋 to @Confusedmeanderings welcome to the Poncing Corner!🎄

I think I may have come upon a mini-project to get me over the crafting hump; something very small so there's no pressure. 🙂

LemonTurdCart · 27/10/2024 07:02

@hannah @NowLightOneThousandChristmasLights You are both on the right track, thank you. I will get a gingerbread house kit for DD then add a personal sized vegan shortbread outbuilding!

MissMaryBennet · 27/10/2024 07:50

@LemonTurdCart and @LaChatte thanks for the ideas. I have fir trees near by but the type that produce 'closed' rather than 'open' cones so no good for hanging but could possibly go on a garland. Love the twigs idea, will definitely give that a go.

Christingly · 27/10/2024 08:20

@MissMaryBennet Just thinking because this is a project for/with an 8 year old, why not keep it very childish...

Do they have an set of plastic dinosaurs/farm animals/little people etc that they don't play with anymore? Or could you find a set second hand? Cover them in gold spray paint and decorate a mini tree in their bedroom with them

LaChatte · 27/10/2024 13:36

I have finished the front 🤩 I'll sort the back out next year later. I'm quite pleased with it, although words such as ''heirloom'' and ''bespoke'' might not be as appropriate as ''homemade'' and ''hobby craft''.

That's gorgeous and I can't believe you've made it so quickly.
