@vivajen hasn't posted on MN for a year so I've taken the bull by the horns. I can't wait any longer !
Wherever you are, Fellatio, here's to you. I hope you're brining a turkey and had crafting authentic organic woven tinsel somewhere.
"OK, first of all, I know it's still September by we need to start this thread now because as you all know, having a truly Poncetastic Christmas involves precision planning, strategy, bravery, heroics, and frequently martyrdom.
So, if you, like me, actually want to make the next twelve weeks of your life a misery by hand-crafting your cards, finding a huge bucket for Nigella's turkey in brine, pickling pears, shrivelling oranges in a low oven for those rustic au naturel decorations, dragging half a holly bush back from the woods, and just generally being a smug annoying jobs worth ponce, join me on this thread.
Feel free to post photos of previous tree-trimming, cake icing or table centrepiece triumphs, discuss this year's bauble colour themes, debate the merits of Delia versus Gordon, road-test a selection of canapés and cocktails, (all in the line of duty) and link to lovely inspirational photos/craft ideas for a truly Poncetastic Christmas.
Warning: If your idea of a good Christmas involves Pizza, ITV, gravy granules or anything with 'Aunt Bessie’s' on the packet, this is not the thread for you".

Looking forward to Christmas in our own home, moving hopefully next month and will be able to properly decorate! Already ordered some nice paper for my son to make paper chains with.

StiffyByngsDogBartholomew · 25/09/2024 18:45

That sounds fab, @Toughmonkeys. What paper have you got ?

🎄 🎄🎄🎄🎄

Thank you for the thread. Can't believe it's that time of year already

StiffyByngsDogBartholomew · 25/09/2024 18:46

I'm making some mulled wine tonight to start the poncing off properly and I've started tuning up my festive piano repertoire. Does anyone else play any instruments abd like to share their festive repertoire?

EternallyDelighted · 25/09/2024 18:52

I'm in, thank you. I don't ponce fully for logistical reasons (tiny house, away gor part of the festive period, family set in the ways re food and not catering for many extras) but I love it in theory and will do a few bits.

GettingStuffed · 25/09/2024 19:00

I usually ponce in the kitchen. This year though we don't know where we'll be either in our new house with loads of room or here where were living around boxes in a much smaller house.

I'm going to live vicariously through this thread

Toughmonkeys · 25/09/2024 19:15

@StiffyByngsDogBartholomew
This one from the Works. My son preferred it to the pre cut type.

Oh I love this thread! Every year I start with good intentions and this year I will fulfil them all! Well, that's the aim.

It's not

Trumpton · 25/09/2024 19:52

Hooray! My people!
Today I

  1. Booked M&S pick up Christmas order
  2. Made Chilli Jam
  3. Started on the origami stars for Christmas cards.
I ordered the Paperwhite narcissi for forcing a couple of weeks ago. I have my spread sheet up and running for presents.

Planning a Moomin themed Sunroom for Christmas dinner this year ( Yes I am the fool who redecorates the sunroom every year in a different theme!)

LemonTurdCart · 25/09/2024 20:07

Hooray!

I’m finishing off a chunky sage green jumper then working out what I’m knitting for presents.

Toddler DD has been helping.

Any mulled wine going spare?

Chateauneufdu · 25/09/2024 19:23

It's not

It's pretty easy, if you don't want to talk about Christmas in September
a. Don't come on the Christmas Board
b. Don't come on the thread where the title clearly suggests we are talking about highly overblown crimbo plans
c. Don't be miserable

StiffyByngsDogBartholomew · 25/09/2024 20:16

@LemonTurdCart sure, loads of it :)

I love the Poncetastic thread.

So far I have placed my order at the butcher, bought the chocolate for the Yule log filling and made (and tested 😬) raspberry gin.

I'm away from home for the next two weekends but once I get back I will start my fruit soaking for the Christmas cake and render down the bag of duck skin that I have been stashing in the freezer.

I'm knitting Christmas socks currently

What Moomin accessories have you got planned @Trumpton?

Hooray! Thank you @StiffyByngsDogBartholomew
I have lurked on these threads before and I now have the time to join in!

Im in 🍾

Trumpton · 25/09/2024 20:22

Christmas 2023 sunroom theme was “Elf”

All very tasteful except for the duvet cover hung on the wall!

Yay! I am excited for a place to document my poncing. I love your tree from last year Stiffy, abd Trumpton.-Moomin themed sunroom!! Looking forward to the pics.
I always like to try my best for a jolly victorian christmas feel, tree groaning with teddybears, toy soldiers, lots of crafting, and we do carols round my mums piano with my daughter playing violin 😁

Trumpton · 25/09/2024 20:29

@TheWoollybacksWife
Ah! Moomin.
I have a lamp.
I will paint the walls with fir trees.
Table runner is moomin fabric.
I also have wrapping paper and crackers reduced from Oxfam earlier this year.
I am not sure what to do about the ceiling and fairy lights I might do Hattifatteners or simple Moomin shapes.
I have moomin cutters for biscuits might do savoury biscuits for cheese.

TheWoollybacksWife · 25/09/2024 20:43

That sounds amazing @Trumpton and your Elf theme was brilliant. I love the little hats on your cutlery.

MissyGirlie · 25/09/2024 20:51

I was just thinking the other day - and again this afternoon - 'stockings...'
I have a few presents stashed, but not much else done. Or even planned yet, TBH.

dutchyoriginal · 25/09/2024 20:56

Hurray! Not sure I will have enough time this year to craft things, or make my own cards, but love to follow your ideas.

The past 2-3 years I hosted all my in-laws (8-14 people) and cooked the whole dinner or the main course and trimmings (turkey Wellington and pork cider stuffing crown and all the rest), but due to family issues I will refuse to host all of them again. Parents in law excepted. If we have dinner in a smaller setting, I will have time to ponce more around the food and of course I can do more for my own parents and siblings <3

StiffyByngsDogBartholomew · 25/09/2024 21:07

I've had a very chaotic couple of months due to some unpleasant work circumstances but we are out the other side now so I'm trying to "clear the decks" a bit to really get started. The planner is printed and I'm going to start planning the bakes etc this weekend.
