I feel like this year is going to be my year of terrible cheesy Christmas pun thread titles Xmas Grin

Greetings and welcome one and all to a friendly and joyful corner of mn - the Christmas bargain thread. Here, we share Christmas present purchases, ideas, links and discount codes, with the aim to spread the Christmas magic and joy and reduce the financial stress.

It's a very busy thread, so see the tips below for helping everything run smoothly and avoiding repetitions of Cookiegate etc al. It's a lovely, friendly bunch and I'm so grateful to each and every one of you for building such a warm, fuzzy and generous spot on mn. I know I've save so much over the years and am so grateful to all of you for sharing.

Pull up a sleigh and relax with a mulled wine and mince pie, for Christmas has nearly arrived!

Some of the below is copied and pasted from previous years, so do @ me if the links don't work

Has anyone spotted a large Pokemon squishmallow? I can only find small ones 🙄 Also on the lookout for bargainous (is that a word?) Crayola sets

B&M have the large size ones in

TheBers2024 · 18/09/2024 23:01

@1sttimeposter24 I ordered three as well. Bearing in mind they are mystery boxes so you might get something different.

The fairy cake one was in a girly ( flowery pink🙄) box and stated the contents on the inside. It would make a nice present for younger tween maybe.

The other two were clearly old subscription boxes they hadn't sold .It doesn't say what's in them and the contents are in tissue paper and sealed. Probably an ok teacher gift

I have a request for all you super shoppers please!

Can anyone recommend a lighter weight adult size oodie style thing please?

Teen DS has a proper oodie (from the bargain place last year) but gets far too hot in it and wants a thinner version but it's so hard to judge weight online!

Silent night, they're around 12-15 on Amazon and brilliant!

My Asda living had a big Pikachu in the other day for around £20/24.

Hobbycraft often have half price on Crayola in the school holidays so if you can wait till mid-October you may get some good offers. Or loom in the back to school sections of the supermarkets if they have any left.

"Got my Ohh Deer stationary boxes today ( late as the outside wrapping had torn, luckily it was put into a plastic bag by the post office).

One was clearly made for kids with recipe cards for fairy cakes. The other two were nice enough outside but inside there's a whole thing about it being a subscription box. So basically if you gave it as a gift it looks like something you had bought yourself and were regifting ie no thought."

Literally, ohh deer 😣 I've ordered 5

WorriedMillie · 19/09/2024 07:02

Re Posca type pens, we had the original, but DD used them to paint rocks and the pens got a bit wrecked with the colours running! Hobbycraft sometimes has them on offer
The Works do decent enough paint pens for £8 (IIRC), including some lovely pastel colours :) I’ve bought individual paint pens (forget the brand) from Poundland too, if you wanted to top up with specific colours

Chocolatecakewithsprinkles · 19/09/2024 07:13

Sale on M&S this morning and non bargain Wednesday lego is available to pre order on lego website.

We have these for rock painting, and they are great. A bargain at £5 too!

Perfect thank you! Just ordered one ☺️

This is not an xmas bargain but I thought it was a good price and a fun thing to do and also supports charity

Mind have started Pause boxes, each box contains a craft type thing such as quilling. It's £7 50 which all goes to mind, it's monthly but you can stop whenever you want.
It's the sort of thing my sister would love.

Pause is here to boost your wellbeing and help support the mental health charity Mind.

Pause is a wellbeing subscription service to support both you and others affected by bad mental health. Subscribe to Pause and receive a monthly dose of mindfulness & creativity.

I'm also curious about posca pens / pens in general. I have a very soon to be 7yo ds and he Loves drawing and colouring. I'd like to tap into this and encourage it as a grown up hobby. We only have Crayola stuff ATM. I'd love to know what I can get him. Also note he has two to younger siblings (5 and 2yo) so it'd be good to recognise his hobby but also be mindful if I need to keep it separate from the little ones (i.e. permanent marks!!)

I have a lot of art stuff for my kids (and of my own for work) would definitely recommend poscas, they are expensive for a reason- they produce beautiful results and last really well. I bought a full set in a case for my son when he was 9, and they are still going strong 2 years later (he does use them a lot). Also has 2 younger siblings so I bought him some in a case from cowling and Wilcox so he could keep them on a high shelf - reduced to £54.99 from £104 24 pen case

ProbablyOnlySellOne · 18/09/2024 08:49

@Skullerymaid I took it out of the box properly this morning and took a picture next to the Meg. They are comparable but the tiger shark has much smaller wheels and I’m sure the meg came in a bigger box. __

Thanks for taking the time to send the photo, looking at it I think it will be ok.

WhereTheresAHill · 19/09/2024 09:11

Not particularly Christmassy but everything Cadbury is reduced in Sainsbury’s until Sunday - I think the best saving is on share bags that are half price

also ordered a National trust pass - thank you!

@Streetcornerchoir i saw a preview of your post before I read it properly and was excited thinking you'd just bought the dairy milk 😂

Sorry 🤣 Amazon are still putting it on my ‘buy it again’ section, it was two years ago I think! Never going to let me forget!

juicyjellybaby · 19/09/2024 09:25

Those who are after Posca pens it might be worth checking your local tesco. I saw a post on Facebook about Tesco having them reduced to £3 so I went to check mine yesterday the ticket said £17 so I checked with the scanner and they were down to £7 for this pack but I’ve seen some people get them cheaper again

My oh deer boxes arrived too and I’m quite pleased as only one was sealed, the others were just folded over so I’ve been able to carefully look at the contents and then will be able to seal them if I send them as birthday gifts. Some cute note books etc and for the price I’m pleased.

@weareallqueens @YeahWellWhyNot Home bargains are doing a kit at the moment for £3.99 for 12 or £7.99 for 24. I bought some yesterday and the colour and coverage are good but they are fairly thick nibbed, POSCA are still the best for fine line paint pens but I keep them for me and let the kids use the cheaper ones!

Damn, just been to my local to check for these too and no scanners were available so didn’t bother checking! Which Tesco did you find them in?

LostCats · 19/09/2024 11:20

@Carolwithane check larger Tescos as we have had loads of Pokemon squishmallows in ours before. Plus they always seem have offers on crayola too. Although a Amazon can have great deals on those too
