I feel like this year is going to be my year of terrible cheesy Christmas pun thread titles Xmas Grin

Greetings and welcome one and all to a friendly and joyful corner of mn - the Christmas bargain thread. Here, we share Christmas present purchases, ideas, links and discount codes, with the aim to spread the Christmas magic and joy and reduce the financial stress.

It's a very busy thread, so see the tips below for helping everything run smoothly and avoiding repetitions of Cookiegate etc al. It's a lovely, friendly bunch and I'm so grateful to each and every one of you for building such a warm, fuzzy and generous spot on mn. I know I've save so much over the years and am so grateful to all of you for sharing.

Pull up a sleigh and relax with a mulled wine and mince pie, for Christmas has nearly arrived!

Some of the below is copied and pasted from previous years, so do @ me if the links don't work

@Drawahardline I got my DD some nice gym shaft stuff last year which went down well. They had a really good sale around Black Friday. The leggings & jumpers are lovely. I'm going to get myself some this year

PaddingtonTwinkles · 15/09/2024 12:34

Can anyone advise on the Radio Times deal for £1.00 (I think that was the price)
Does it happen every year?

My Mum loved it last year, and would like to do it again.

I'm off to the Asian supermarket today, any suggestions of things to buy for Christmas/stocking fillers etc?

Sweet tooth:
Bags of sweets, boxes of filled mochi, jelly/pudding mix (in cooking area rather than sweets aisle), tinned soft drinks
Savoury:
Different ramen or tteokbokki (sp?) pots/packets, furikake seasoning to put on rice or eggs, flavoured crisps
Other:
Soju (booze), flavoured hot drinks (eg. sachets of Malaysian kopi, chinese roasted barley teas, Korean citron in jar), or a nice chopsticks and bowls set

I've found UK sellers on ebay selling White Fox hoodies for much less than the website, are these likely to be knockoffs?

JessR26385 · 15/09/2024 13:16

Does anyone's children have the magnetic tiles? I know some are rubbish.

I have found two makes

Magna
Connetix

The conntix have a good deal on, but I am nervous they are crap and fall apart?
Are either any good? Please help 🤣😂

Elpheba · 15/09/2024 13:29

We’re a connetix house- love them, but also hear good things about magnatiles. So you probably can’t go wrong with either.

Connetix are amazing in my experience. Dont buy cheap brands because they can be unsafe with the magnets. Connetix and magna tiles are really well made so don’t have to worry about the magnets coming out round pets and small kids

Just to say, they had that 'reduced' last year too. They are very plasticky and only £16.99 on ebay anyway. They should be done for pretending it's RRP is £80

Calmthefuckdown · 15/09/2024 13:43

Oh really? That's a shame. It looks lovely. 😔

They have similar on Shein, which is where I bought one from and they are good for the money (I paid around £15)

I would imagine so. The best deal on white fox seems to be when they do 40% off so if the prices are less than that I would assume they are fakes.

IggyAce · 15/09/2024 14:17

@FernArable thanks for the tip, bath & bodywork’s is on dd list, I like a good soap so I’ll probably get a few if they are that cheap. I’ve heard that the US candles are better than the ones sold here.

juicyjellybaby · 15/09/2024 14:23

@ApiratesaysYarrr i would say they are fake however saying that my niece got one for like £19 on DHgate obviously fake and it looked like the real one

IlovePond · 15/09/2024 14:24

@ApiratesaysYarrr re: White Fox hoodies - I think that fakes are most likely to be found with the ‘professional’ business sellers, especially those overseas. One good thing about eBay is that buyers are protected in the event of buying fake goods, but it’s obviously better to avoid fakes in the first place!

However, I seem to remember from these threads last year that people buying WF hoodies were having trouble with returns/there were no refunds available - just credit notes. I can quite easily imagine that some people ended up with WF hoodies that were unsuitable for their child/not the preferred article!

Someone selling one WF hoodie privately on eBay or Vinted in the UK, (especially when also selling other items clearly from a family home), is likely to be selling the genuine article.

juicyjellybaby · 15/09/2024 14:36

while we are talking about the white fox hoodies what is the sizing like? I am thinking of getting my 12 year old one but not sure if xs would still be big

IlovePond · 15/09/2024 14:42

Hi @juicyjellybaby - what UK size is your daughter currently?

juicyjellybaby · 15/09/2024 14:46

@IlovePond she still wears 12-13 years in new look, Asda etc so I am not sure I’ll maybe get her to try one of my size small jumpers on to see what it’s like on her

IlovePond · 15/09/2024 14:49

That’s a good idea @juicyjellybaby

If memory serves, most people on last year’s threads went for XS - they are meant to be oversized and your daughter might be due a growth spurt!

PeskyPotato · 15/09/2024 14:49

Have a look as your Asda star rewards today. There are loads of shavers on there with up to £60 cash back. I got two Braun lady shavers and a Braun beard trimmer for £60 with £54 back in my cashpot this morning. The ones in the picture are £22 with £20 back.

Have you tried this shaver before? Or have you just bought as gifts? Wondering whether to try one

VolcanicProtectorMan · 15/09/2024 15:13

@Flubadubba Thanks, that’s a great price and something I don’t think my Frozen obsessed niece would have already!
