Treaty chocolates/sweets for Christmas that aren't tubs of Heroes

I always buy those tubs of quality street/roses etc, but now we are all a bit older we don't enjoy them much.

What sweet treats do you have? I'm getting two boxes of Turkish delight as we had one last year and it was inhaled in an afternoon.

Is hotel chocolate actually nice?

Yes but MN hates it for some inexplicable reason.

Meadowwild · 30/08/2024 11:16

My adult DC love Lindor truffles. You can order them pick and mix direct from Lindor so you choose the flavours everyone loves and skip the ones you hate. Or just buy the original red boxes on offer in the run up to Christmas. Some people hate them (I think there is a lot of coconut and palm oil in them) but we love them.

Lidl chocolate marzipans are also very popular here at Christmas. Agree with you @Milsonophonia on Turkish Delight.

DontLookBackInBognor · 30/08/2024 11:25

I used to love Terrys Neapolitans, we only ever had them at Christmas when I was growing up.
Still haven’t got over the fact that they’re not around anymore.☹️

Charbonnel et Walker Marc de Champagne truffles, if you like boozy chocolates

Mozart balls. Lidl does a great dupe. They also do one for Anton Berg boozy marzipan 'cakes' in a box. Yum.

I used to like them but now they seem to have lost all flavour in the actual chocolate for some reason. I suspect more fat/oil is added to their basic chocolate recipe but they definitely don’t seem that nice to me anymore 😭

The M&S champagne or pink champagne truffles are incredibly similar to the charbonnel et walker ones for less than half the price. The charbonnel et walker ones are absolutely lovely if someone else is paying though!

Bendicks mints.

My favourites at hotel chocolat are the packs of six that you get (usually with a discount if you buy in multiples of three of the packs) -the pistachio ones that are squares, raspberry smoothie, chocolate fudge sundae and amaretto truffles.

The £5 odd slab of honey and pistachio chocolate that they do is also amazing.

Me too!

For me, it’s not Christmas without After Eight, but they have got shockingly expensive for what they are.
I like to have sweet bowls and fill them with things like jelly tots, smarties, chocolate peanuts/brazils, jazzies etc. Christmas brings the child out in me.
I also like peanut brittle. I buy a bag of it from Amazon.

Can't go wrong with a nice big box of Lindt choc balls.

These work really well for me because I inexplicably don’t really like them that much - I find them too rich, which is weird because I love loads of other rich chocolates etc. So I get them, everyone else loves them, and I can resist quite easily (and scoff all the pralines and bittermints)

Twinkletwinklelil · 30/08/2024 12:47

Fudge
nuts
i did homemade peppermint brownies a couple years in a row! Went down so well

Milsonophonia · 30/08/2024 13:12

I think I'm going to be buying quite a lot at M and S this year! Truffles, cherry liqueur chocs (sound AMAZING), those roasted and salted pecans plus loads of other stuff!

Neideregger marzipan chocolate for me - only the red ones which are plain marzipan/dark chocolate

DC like Malteaser truffles
Terrys Chocolate Orange segments
After Eights
Cadbury chocolate coins

I bought the M&S Merry Munch ( I think that's the name) a couple of years ago but it was boggingly sweet

Hedgerow2 · 30/08/2024 13:51

I have a nice Christmassy bowl that I put out with a mixture of whatever small wrapped chocolate things I can find like Lindt balls, Lindt reindeer, chocolate coins, Reese's mini Xmas trees etc

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 30/08/2024 13:54

Cocoba chocolate honeycomb in a jar . Nice but £

RosesAndHellebores · 30/08/2024 13:59

Fortnum's truffles where you chose the ones you want at the counter. Turkish delight.

I really like Monty Bojangles the berry ones are really nice, we fight over those in the mixed boxes

BloodyWolves · 30/08/2024 18:15

My Christmas and Birthday treat to myself is fudge from Want that Fudge. Last time I ordered I got a mystery bundle because I couldn’t decide so let fate pick for me!

I’m not a fan of Hotel Chocolat. Their chocolate reminds me of Thorntons which I wasn’t keen on either. I love a Forrero Rocher (or 20) though! Also a gold Lindt reindeer. I’ve been on a diet for most of this year and I cannot to loosen the reigns a bit over Christmas.

AutumnJoys · 30/08/2024 19:00

I make Jane's Patisserie's Christmas rocky road with amaretti biscuits and honestly it's amazing. Everyone, kids to adults, loves it! So so rich, you only need a bit.
