I always buy those tubs of quality street/roses etc, but now we are all a bit older we don't enjoy them much.

What sweet treats do you have? I'm getting two boxes of Turkish delight as we had one last year and it was inhaled in an afternoon.

I order from small choclate shops prefer those who try not to use palm oil eg Audrey Brighton

Nicebloomers · 30/08/2024 08:59

I love a florentine.

WonderingWanda · 30/08/2024 09:00

My favourites are:

Marzipan fruits
Turkish delight
Homemade fudge - white choc and cranberry is nice, or baileys flavour.
Those little crunchy flat caramel nut things that I cannot for the life of me remember what they are called?
M&S usually do some lovely wrapped truffles too.

shellyleppard · 30/08/2024 09:00

Terry's chocolate orange or ferrero rocher are my Christmas treats. Give myself a migraine though 🥴

Elbone · 30/08/2024 09:01

How about some really nice fudge in an airtight jar?

You could make your own pretty easily or order it online

I can also recommend these from Marks:

Ooh I like this one.

Sugared almonds in a pretty bowl.
Bendicks (a box of bittermints and a box of mixed)
Turkish delight
Dark chocolate gingers
Amaretto biscuits
Fancy coated nuts (Rosemary honey black pepper cashews and almonds type thing)
Choccy scoffy or similar monty bojangles truffles - v good price and v tasty
Some sort of praline selection - M&S brand do a great box.

ETA also
mini florentines
Lebkuchen German biscuits in pretty shapes.

Elbone · 30/08/2024 09:04

Oh and always do two types of rocket road.
The ordinary kind with marshmallows and fudge in white and milk chocolate marble, then a grown up kind with chopped up pistachios, crushed amaretti biscuits and Turkish delight in dark chocolate.

gardenmusic · 30/08/2024 09:04

Green and blacks mixed box.
Chocolate brazils.
Chocolate liquers
If you have fridge room leonadis chocolates

Well they don't try very hard. I ordered some after seeing many many recommendations on MN and they were really nothing special, had a massive ingredients list full of MN no nos like palm oil and a BBE date of more than a year away, indicating they weren't the lovely fresh handmade chocolates that they present themselves as. And they were extortionately expensive.

To answer the OPs question, I realised long ago that I only really like toffees, caramels and fudges out of those boxes so now I buy bags of these from somewhere like M&S and empty them into a suitable container. I also like Lindt and Ferrero Rochers so might get some of these too.

So I still get a selection of chocolates to choose from but they're the ones I like and no useless plastic tub to deal with afterwards.

Justhereforthechristmasthreads · 30/08/2024 09:31

Had a tin from Hotel Chocolat last Christmas. Very spendy for the amount you got but there was 4 or 5 varieties and were a nice treat (and unlike the cheap chocs you only need one at a time)

YousayPassataISaypeastta · 30/08/2024 09:33

@Bjorkdidit fresh are usually cream. They explained to me that some choc has palm oil but most don't.. Unfortunately this is what I have found with most choclate shops big and small.

I'm really enjoyed my box and I will probably go back again. We tried leondas last year and I prefer Audrey.

Happy to have other smaller non palm oil recs!!

YousayPassataISaypeastta · 30/08/2024 09:34

@Elbone that sounds delicious

Pocketfullofdogtreats · 30/08/2024 09:35

Booja Booja did a Winter Spice mixed flavours box last year that was absolutely divine. I might've bought two boxes :) Sophisticated though - not for kiddies and definitely not for display! To be hidden at the back of the cupboard.

FootInTheMouth · 30/08/2024 09:36

Bendicks mints
Anthon Berg liquor chocolates

But a tin of quality street is an essential, too.

BareBelliedSneetch · 30/08/2024 09:39

After 8s
Bendicks bitter mints
usually some HC as well.

Hedonism · 30/08/2024 09:39

A box of Bendicks bittermints are my Christmas treat. I like the monty bojangles truffles too.

JaninaDuszejko · 30/08/2024 09:45

If we get anything like heros it gets put in the playroom for the kids to eat with their friends. I'm not a fan.

We got a fancy musical tin a few years ago that was filled with biscuits. I now fill it with a variety of Lindt Lindors. We have a lot of visitors over Christmas and it always goes down well.

Floralnomad · 30/08/2024 09:49

We prefer biscuits so get a few nice tins and a box of Belgian chocolates usually from Costco

JC03745 · 30/08/2024 09:57

I make rocky road and rum balls- which last weeks in the fridge

I love florentines- either aldi or lidl do mini ones which are delicious 😋
They also sell lebkucken, German, spiced biscuits which I like with my morning coffee

I also love Raffaello chocs.

Bendicks bittermints, M&S dark chocolate cherry liqueurs and fudge are my Xmas faves. I found a recipe last year for Christmas pudding fudge so think will give thst a go this year.

Milsonophonia · 30/08/2024 10:19

These all sound mouth watering!

I normally concentrate on the main meals, but tbh these delicious treaty things are what Xmas is all about for us because we have very few treats during the year

We're fed up with heroes/roses and quality street too. This year I'm getting a large box of hotel chocolat and nougat.

Milsonophonia · 30/08/2024 10:55

Is hotel chocolate actually nice?
