It's a leap year next year, so an extra day to wait!

I've ordered 120 baubles today, as WeRChristmas sent me a 50% code for today only. Annoyingly I could get our new tree way cheaper today! 😭

I'm exhausted now I've finally had time to sit and relax. Tomorrow is a chill day.

Hi @lucysmam welcome.

I have started a things to avoid next year list so will be relying on you all to remind me of this 😂

lucysmam · 28/12/2023 22:15

Thanks @whydoesitalwayshappentome !

What's on your "to avoid" list? Mine's just one loooong ass list atm, as things occur to me 🙈

whydoesitalwayshappentome · 28/12/2023 22:20

@lucysmam currently it is do not buy cheese chilli bites from Morrisons and not to work Christmas Eve, whether the second one is possible I don't know.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 29/12/2023 00:46

362.

I don't do a What To Avoid list but I do have a notebook to write anything which occurs to me (Christmas related , obvs Xmas Grin ) all year .

Then the ramblings get turned into a Proper List .

I cannot think of much "avoid" except I'm not going to buy the ratbags any Chocolate Advents Calendars . I thought I nailed it this year (Cadburys with a bar of chocolate at 25 -the one with the white/milk chocolate tree pattern)
They didn't like Hotel Chocolat last year or the tall Cadbury one before that .

They did like the Cadbury Money Box tin.

I was at work Wed/Thur to keep myself in a routine over Christmas .

Now off to bed , as I have to take my DD out to buy shoes .
Vegan shoes that she doesn;t think are hideous .
Wish me luck Xmas Grin

Babla · 29/12/2023 01:16

🤦‍♀️

NoWordForFluffy · 29/12/2023 07:35

Good luck, 70! Sounds like you'll need the patience of a saint! 😬

Are you lost, @Babla?

I am also not going to get a Waitrose turkey crown on the bone, as it was all bone and hardly any turkey which was a bit disappointing.

I ordered a few presents from the Boots sale last night, it is really good if anyone wants a nose.

WreckTangled · 29/12/2023 08:43

The Lush gift sets are half price too. I got some for nieces and nephews we haven’t seen yet 😅

I’ve just got back from the gym and popped into Sainsburys to get some new scissors as ours broke. Got a new frying pan as Dh always moans about ours and every time he uses it says we need a new one.

lucysmam · 29/12/2023 08:53

I popped into our local Lush yesterday for one of the house tins but there were none left 😢 I only didn't pick it up on Weds because then I'd have had to take it to an appointment & they had loads left when I walked past.

WreckTangled · 29/12/2023 09:16

Oh no! The one I went to yesterday had shelves full of them

MrsDilligaf · 29/12/2023 10:03

I'm taking the tinsel down off the staircase today. DD will be disappointed but I've spent 3 weeks hoovering the stairs on a daily basis and I'm done with it.

That is going on my list of things to avoid next year!

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 29/12/2023 11:23

Are you lost, ?

Xmas Grin Always 0ne ain't there ? Or in the case of The Christmas Threads , several !
lucysmam · 29/12/2023 11:40

Clearly I need to go further afield...cba with that though!

NoCheesesForUsMeeces · 29/12/2023 12:12

Welcome Lucysmam. I recognise you from your 'what are you up to today' posts Xmas Smile

We're home now so today will be washing and a quick shop in Sainsburys (mostly because I'm hoping for a bargain Christmas tree or plant and DH is hoping for a frozen turkey). Then we're generally putting the house straight (ish).

My list for next year is not to go away (but I said that last year too) and not to buy any wrapping paper, cards or magazines as we've got enough to keep us going for at least the next 2 years!
Also, if there are crafty things I want to do/gift, for the love of god I need to remember to start them in July and not October this year!

Things that worked were putting the decorations up early and booking nice things to do throughout December.

Thanks for this thread.

I went past a branch of Lush @lucysmam but didn't go in (my DD was gettng a bit tired'n'narky by this time)
I did spare her the "delights" of John Lewis and M&S though TBH I wasn't in the mood to plough through them . I got what I wanted to buy and thought I don't want to look just for the sake of it and I know sales shopping can be an utter waste of time

My DS likes the Lush Kalamazoo (beard wash) but I got him a big pot before Christmas and it's not something they reduce .
I bought DD some perfume . She tried on shoes and we're going to order online .

lucysmam · 30/12/2023 09:25

I thought it'd be nice to keep my bath bombs in 🤷‍♀️ couldn't even find it online.

Today is straighten the house up a bit and get the decoration boxes out of the loft day. The girls' dad will take down the ceiling decs for me & I'll slowly do the rest with the tree being last, late next week, before I go back to work. Need to order a storage box for my pretty glass baubles though.

I'll start transferring my lists and notes too.

whydoesitalwayshappentome · 30/12/2023 10:02

I am cleaning today and taking down the Christmas cards and my birthday cards. The tree will stay up till Monday though as I do love it so much. My husband always packs it away before he goes back to work.

NoWordForFluffy · 30/12/2023 10:06

I am cleaning our old house today. I cleaned this house yesterday, though I still need to do the kitchen, which is a tomorrow job.

Our tree will stay up until next weekend. We'd usually take it down before new year but as we were late putting it up because of moving, it can stay up a bit longer.

Is there a bargains for next year thread? Please.

Is there a bargains for next year thread? Please.

I think chips said she would start one around New Year's Day.

NoCheesesForUsMeeces · 30/12/2023 11:43

Cleaning here today too as I didn't get anywhere near my to do list done yesterday.

Decs are staying up until Monday but the kitchen and big bathroom need to be cleaned, floors all need to be hoovered and I have yet more washing to do.

DH had plans to go for a hike today which has been cancelled due to the weather so he's also mithering me to go for a walk with him which I don't want to do but may give in because I'm sure it'll make me feel better in the long run 🙄

I also made a start on a New Cross stitch kit yesterday and want to bin it off already.
Has anyone done a Panna kit? The threads have a key chart rather than being labelled with the symbols and they feel a bit cheap and rubbish.

WreckTangled · 30/12/2023 16:13

I hope you went for the walk meeces as I think you’re right that it’ll make you feel better.

We’ve just got back from our final family Christmas Day. It was exhausting 🥴 our tree will come down tomorrow I think but I’m a bit sad as I love it so much!

NoWordForFluffy · 30/12/2023 16:40

I'm knackered. I didn't get the whole house done, but I did vacuum the lounge (it was fully cleaned the day we moved, other than this); cleaned the woodwork and windows plus vacuumed all 3 bedrooms; cleaned the bathroom and left the tiles with bleach on them overnight; scrubbed the bathroom floor with bleach; vacuumed the landing and stairs; cleaned the hall / stairs / landing / porch woodwork; vacuumed the kitchen; put the oven racks in a clean bag with cleaning liquid and rubbed more in the oven; and put grass seed down.

I go back tomorrow for another round. 😭😭

Meeces, I've never done a Panna kit. Sounds irritating. Ditch it early if you hate it. Don't struggle on.
