Asda click and collect nightmare

C&C booked weeks ago for 12 noon today. Nothing added from 24 hours before cut off.
Arrived on time despite no confirmation email received.
Dreadful. Lady there with children in the car had been there an hour.
Phones not being answered.
I felt really sorry for the staff there as clearly the buyers and staff planning had got things so horribly wrong and customers waiting were getting very upset.
Customer services told me they didn't have enough staff and to go home until I got the confirmation email.
Email came in at 14.45, got back about 15.00. Tempers even more frayed on our return.
Email showed 13 subs, most of which were unacceptable eg given tartar instead of horseradish. I didn't want any of them.
Totally out of stock and no subs available- cauli, sprouts, green beans, cranberry sauce etc....... No staples available.
Fortunately we had already bought meat from elsewhere, but there was a lady in tears because none of the things she had ordered for Christmas dinner were not available, so the things I mentioned but also all her meat, pigs, stuffing etc.
Or order brought out at about 15.15.
Worker was very polite and apologetic but said because of the queues he couldn't deal with any subs returns and asked me to take everything and apply online. WTF!
4 supermarkets later we managed to buy the veg etc we needed. No cranberry sauce anywhere but bless Lidl, they had fresh cranberries and I've just made my own, a job I didn't really have time to do.
Adding insult to injury, having looked at my groceries I have now found that a few are use by Dec 24th. Unacceptable service
Get your act together! If people pre order this means you know what stocks you need.
Never again and my order was for about £300.

Our Asda delivery was shit too but luckily like you I could go get stuff elsewhere. Why they run out every year of double cream I don't know. Why I forget every year I don't know either. No online shop next year.

YetMoreNewBeginnings · 23/12/2023 21:34

Our asda delivery came at 7pm last night with 16 unavailable items and 10 subs, most of which were useless. DH went to the asda to see what he could get from the shelves as the subs were so random and got everything we were originally looking for bar two things.

TeaKitten · 23/12/2023 21:38

It’s the same every year with click and collects, im not sure why people bother to be honest. Asda refund easily but they are so hard to get hold of to actually complain to and speak to as well. It’s infuriating. I guess they just don’t care though as they no plenty of people will go back.

Thesearmsofmine · 23/12/2023 21:39

We had the exact same situation last Christmas with them on click and collect. We got given £10 voucher but it’s not really compensation for having to wait around over an hour and not having many of the items we ordered.

Blueeyedmale · 23/12/2023 21:41

Went to Asda earlier to get something for tea shelves are looking bare, while Morrisons shelves are fully stacked.lots of complaints on the local FB page too about out of stock and substitute items

mnahmnah · 23/12/2023 21:50

I had some subs this morning that were no good at Asda click and collect. Not a problem, I thought, as I can just find them in the store like usual and get the things they ‘didn’t have’ (if the warehouse doesn’t have them and the shop does, why not replace from there for the order?!). However, the shop itself didn’t have any of them either. The only Christmas desserts were trifle or a frozen roulade. No french sticks.

Reugny · 23/12/2023 21:55

I had that issue like thousands of others last year who did delivery or click "n" collect. They gave me vouchers at some point in January.

I was so pissed that over half my shopping hadn't arrived particularly as I wasn't ordering stuff for Christmas dinner. I drove to the local large Asda and everything I wanted was in stock. Unfortunately the queues took about 2 hours.

The previous year according to the delivery driver they had no meat. However I didn't order any meat from them just veg so I had no complaints and the guy got his tip.

I'm still on their mailing list for delivery and got an email every week from mid-November telling me I could book a Christmas slot, and then that they had reduced the price if their slots. Oddly I wasn't tempted.

MissHoollie · 23/12/2023 21:59

I will think we got lucky with. Tesco.
Only sub was a salad box

peachgreen · 23/12/2023 22:03

My Sainsbury’s delivery was similar – terrible subs and tons of them – but I got the email first thing so went to the supermarket to get the things that were missed off and it wasn’t too hideous. Delivered tonight and I ended up sending all 35 subs back!

BorgQueen · 23/12/2023 22:04

Adsa was bloody awful today. Lots of empty shelves.
No ‘ordinary’ crisps, no cream, no fresh custard or gravy, no cocktail sausages, no pork pies. Dates on stuff like bread were crap yet they’d got tons of cheeses and weird ‘party food’ combos.
Weirdest of all, no mushrooms, which we wanted to have with steak this evening.
I’d have gone elsewhere but we had £30 of vouchers to use.

EarringsandLipstick · 23/12/2023 22:04

God that's awful. I can completely understand people being upset.

How can they get it so wrong? The physical supermarkets are stocked waist-high with the staples. How is it not possible to have them for the online orders?

MrsBungle · 23/12/2023 22:08

Same here. I booked my slot and put order in weeks ago. Half my shop was unavailable or a ridiculous substitute - for example for my chestnuts they gave me peanuts!

gotomomo · 23/12/2023 22:08

Top tip to anyone struggling, lidl wasn't busy at all today, just bought pastries a few minutes ago and they even had more mince pies in (from another store apparently

JanglingJack · 23/12/2023 22:12

Genuine question as I've never used the service over Christmas time.
So... Even if you book a slot weeks early, they can only pack what is available I'm store in the day?
So people going to store at 7am etc and you're due to collect at 2, then you've lost out to the 7am shoppers?:Do they have storage to do it overnight and save?

Anyway - good luck with finding your items and have a lovely Christmas!

onlyoneoftheregimentinstep · 23/12/2023 22:13

We had our Tesco delivery yesterday. The only subs were a couple of different sizes eg 5 smaller packs of cauliflower cheese instead of 3 larger ones and only one minor item not available.
We have a delivery most weeks and there's very rarely a problem.

OldTinHat · 23/12/2023 22:14

Just here to say I booked an Asda delivery on Monday for delivery yesterday. Only sub I had was Brussels pate instead of Brussels pate with garlic.

I am on my own though so no doubt have a tiny order compared to you hosting.

Flanjango · 23/12/2023 22:14

Asda delivery today. 20 subs. Most were chicken based products and all replaced with small chicken poppers. Oh well. They taste good 🤣

Flanjango · 23/12/2023 22:15

Tbh the delivery driver said they had run out of loads and do it every year. Went to Tescos...restocking loads as we were there

DanceMumTaxi · 23/12/2023 22:16

Our Asda shop was a terrible too. Didn’t even have basic stuff like Heinz tomato ketchup. I won’t be using Asda again for the Christmas big shop.

Grimchmas · 23/12/2023 22:18

But this is always the risk with deliveries and C&C so close to Christmas anywhere isn't it. I don't understand why more people don't get things like pigs in blankets and their meat earlier in the month and freeze it. Yes everybody needs fresh stuff but those who leave absolutely everything they need for Christmas Dinner to C&C or delivery last minute - just why?

EarringsandLipstick · 23/12/2023 22:18

It's not necessarily from the store. Where I am it comes from a central warehouse / dispatch, not the specific store that you are collecting from.

Daisylookslost · 23/12/2023 22:20

I just get Ocado. Edit up to the night before. They bring it to my home in a one hr slot. Sorted!
nb I hate going to supermarkets this time of year it’s carnage but DH still likes to brave Aldi and to be fair we got a nice turkey from there..

Oopsididitagaintomorrow · 23/12/2023 22:22

This used to happen to me every year. Last 3 years I've gone shopping a day or two before, very early in the morning, and got everything I needed totally stress free....just couldn't go back to online shopping for Christmas now.
Despite all the rubbish/random substitutes, I hope you all have a lovely Christmas 🎄

Alargeoneplease89 · 23/12/2023 22:23

No idea why people don't go shopping themselves. I get subs on a normal shop so know when the chaos of christmas shopping comes around it's going to be worse.

Obviously not counting disabled people who have no one to help.

mumda · 23/12/2023 22:24

Morrisons only subbed my two packets of party rings for two bags of mini packets. To be fair it has meant they've not all been eaten yet.

Our delivery was a few days ago though which means we paid full price for veg and not the 15p a bag available now.
