Asda click and collect nightmare

C&C booked weeks ago for 12 noon today. Nothing added from 24 hours before cut off.
Arrived on time despite no confirmation email received.
Dreadful. Lady there with children in the car had been there an hour.
Phones not being answered.
I felt really sorry for the staff there as clearly the buyers and staff planning had got things so horribly wrong and customers waiting were getting very upset.
Customer services told me they didn't have enough staff and to go home until I got the confirmation email.
Email came in at 14.45, got back about 15.00. Tempers even more frayed on our return.
Email showed 13 subs, most of which were unacceptable eg given tartar instead of horseradish. I didn't want any of them.
Totally out of stock and no subs available- cauli, sprouts, green beans, cranberry sauce etc....... No staples available.
Fortunately we had already bought meat from elsewhere, but there was a lady in tears because none of the things she had ordered for Christmas dinner were not available, so the things I mentioned but also all her meat, pigs, stuffing etc.
Or order brought out at about 15.15.
Worker was very polite and apologetic but said because of the queues he couldn't deal with any subs returns and asked me to take everything and apply online. WTF!
4 supermarkets later we managed to buy the veg etc we needed. No cranberry sauce anywhere but bless Lidl, they had fresh cranberries and I've just made my own, a job I didn't really have time to do.
Adding insult to injury, having looked at my groceries I have now found that a few are use by Dec 24th. Unacceptable service
Get your act together! If people pre order this means you know what stocks you need.
Never again and my order was for about £300.

Oh my what a horrible stressful experience. Did you manage to get everything you needed today?

We had a Waitrose delivery this morning and only had one sub which I was easily able to replace this afternoon.

grumpycow1 · 24/12/2023 00:04

Tesco delivery yesterday evening - no subs and one thing out of stock (potatoes) as the 15p deal was so popular.

Scarletttulips · 24/12/2023 00:06

Also if no one booked delivery/ click and collect those workers wouldn't have a job. Or the drivers

This three is totally lacking in Christmas spirit. I feel for all those shop workers doing their best to serve you at a busy time of the year.

I walked into my local shop today, got everything I needed even reduced items like turkeys and ham.

I did not feel stressed or pissed off.

We live in an island and rely on the boats to bring food supplies, bad weather means no boat.

Stop and think about that - we are prepared to forgo the cranberry jelly for fresh bread and milk.

mawik · 24/12/2023 00:32

I have to give Asda a big thumbs up for my click and collect today,
39 items, and only 2 subs, one was 12 mini rolls instead of 6 , and Philadelphia cream cheese instead of Asda own brand, so a win for me 😁

We order an online shop every week normally but don’t bother for the 2 weeks at Christmas or New Year for this reason. Go in person if you can and you pick up everything. Asda don’t have the items online yet do instore, I used to think online shopping was picked from instore but it clearly isn’t.

Yes I get a Tesco delivery every week of the yearbut not mid Dec until the new year. Just can't be doing with the stress of things going wrong.

BlairWaldorfOG · 24/12/2023 00:58

Our Asda CC last year was a shambles too, enormous queues, everything out of stock, we queued an hour then the email came through showing it was all out of stock apart from a bottle of lemonade and a bottle of gin (was originally a massive shop) so we sacked it off and I had to go to Aldi.

Had a Sainsbury's delivery this morning, everything was there and decent dates even the enormous turkey I chanced ordering. Arrived on time, receipt emailed a few hours before delivery. Definitely recommend it was great.

HardHeartedHarbingerofHaggis · 24/12/2023 01:33

Quite clear from this thread that Asda is the issue not C&C or home deliveries in general. Been having online shopping delivered with Morrisons for years no problems.

JanglingJack · 24/12/2023 01:52

Thank you @EarringsandLipstick . I would have thought that it wouldn't have been so bad then!

I must remember to go to my local one stop for 7am tomorrow. I popped in about pm and so much ready to be reduced... I'm a yellow sticker fiend.

CrabbiesGingerBeer · 24/12/2023 01:52

The problem is they still let people change their order up to the night before. I think they should cut off changes earlier for slots Christmas week (probably weeks earlier) but guarantee delivery.

Can I make a suggestion everyone for next year? It happens like this: you rock up to the supermarket, grab a trolley, go around the store, and take a list with you - that helps, and get everything on the list and put it in the trolley. Then go to what is called a checkout - and you pay for the items - I hasten to add the items are all selected by YOU and pre-approved by YOU - and then you pay and leave with all the purchases that YOU need and are HAPPY with. Then you take it all home. Was very popular in the 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s, 00s,10s............just a suggestion. And less stress......

Wow! Thank god you were here to remind everyone how shops work! I'm sure none of us had considered this as an option. I'll just let my disabled granddad know if he grows his legs back he'll be able to go and buy things HE'S HAPPY with just like he did in the 50's. You know, when he had legs.

MerryMarigold · 24/12/2023 02:07

I've got everything I need, mostly after 7pm when shops are quiet. I got my veg/ cream on Wednesday (after issues one year), it's fine to last to Monday. I froze the sausages for pigs (again from experience, not driving round 5 supermarmets to see who actually has them). Even the cream lasts till 27th.

Spencer0220 · 24/12/2023 02:15

DH and I are disabled and rely on food delivery.

We ordered all the cupboard stuff 3 weeks ago and just got the veg etc yesterday.

Only 2 items not in stock. Both not needed till next year.

Sister bought 1 for me en route to our Christmas get together as I happened to phone her in the Co-op.

It's called planning. We can't get it ourselves, so we organise in advance

christmaspawpaws · 24/12/2023 02:20

I did click and collect because I'm immunocompromised and still wary around covid

Went with Sainsburys and not a single sub. Unfortunately another customer had taken all my fridge items Confused but they sorted it and gave me a gift card so it could have been worse. Was there about 45 mins waiting for the other customer to come back

sleepsuitbag · 24/12/2023 02:46

Local Asda was very busy on Friday evening.

We're wary about Covid too. 🙌🏻

Sainsbury's are brilliant

hoobanoobie · 24/12/2023 04:38

Always hear people complaining about subs. You all know you'll never be subbed an adequate item. Before you complete check out, tick no subs on your entire order. If they don't have what you want in stock then they will refund you.
I booked an online order for general meal bits, a fuckload of cat litter, cat food and essentials to last. Which was delivered on Monday. No subs because that's what I'd stated. Went in person the next day to buy Xmas food. Pretty much empty and got everything we needed.
For most, it's a matter of planning. It's not difficult. Work all of the shit out in advance.
You've no one to blame but yourself.
But you OP were unwise to rely on a pre booked shop. Of course stock will dwindle at Christmas. Pre booking won't save you on the day any more than the swarms shopping last minute.

MrsJamin · 24/12/2023 05:42

This is why online supermarket shopping at stores that are accessible by the public is so rubbish. Only morrisons and ocado have warehouses that aren't shops so when you order something, you'll get it rather than the shopper who took it off the shelves a few hours earlier.

MissBuffyAnneSummers · 24/12/2023 05:52

My Tesco home delivery was complete with a few brand subscriptions that were fine with me.

autienotnaughty · 24/12/2023 06:19

I get my dry food , alcohol and desserts (frozen) a few weeks in advance to avoid this. Meat we get from the butcher. So my big Xmas shop was about £100 and consisted mainly of fridge stuff and veg.

We had 12 substitutions most were fine - one brand of apples for another etc.

I did order chestnuts and got gravy and the bread I ordered was wrong so dh nipped out for last few bits.

From the thread you can see that Asda is the only supermarket that has consistently has problems at this time of year.

They aren't the biggest supermarket in the UK.

Incidentally when I had to go to the shop last year with my DD who can't keep still, three other adults and in particular one older woman helped to keep her entertained in the queue. In fact random people were helping to keep other people's young children entertained.

Oh and my DD doesn't mind a supermarket shop but she can't cope with long queues.

DisforDarkChocolate · 24/12/2023 07:29

This is why I buy things over several shops and then get an early shop for the rest (except some veg). If they pick it from the shelves you will always have this issue if you get a late delivery. It's bloody annoying though, why can't they use the orders so set some things aside?

ofestivetree · 24/12/2023 07:34

I wouldn't have bothered making my own cranberry sauce when ever I've had home made its never been sweet enough

DelilahBucket · 24/12/2023 07:45

We use Ocado. The delivery is from a warehouse and they specifically order in to meet the online orders. Rarely is there a sub, or sometimes it will be neither here nor there. We get a delivery on Christmas eve, it's due soon, so there is time to go and grab anything missing. This year our only subs are one of the party foods has been swapped and bottles of Coke for cans at a cheaper price.
We went to some supermarkets yesterday, Sainsbury's, M&S, Tesco and Aldi, both morning and afternoon. Didn't have to queue anywhere. We couldn't believe how quiet it was.

Willmafrockfit · 24/12/2023 07:48

that is exactly why i dont do click and collect or delivery any more. such a let down

Itsnotallaboutyoulikeyouthink · 24/12/2023 07:51

Tartar sauce? Something you could have added to your shop weeks ago?
