Asda click and collect nightmare

C&C booked weeks ago for 12 noon today. Nothing added from 24 hours before cut off.
Arrived on time despite no confirmation email received.
Dreadful. Lady there with children in the car had been there an hour.
Phones not being answered.
I felt really sorry for the staff there as clearly the buyers and staff planning had got things so horribly wrong and customers waiting were getting very upset.
Customer services told me they didn't have enough staff and to go home until I got the confirmation email.
Email came in at 14.45, got back about 15.00. Tempers even more frayed on our return.
Email showed 13 subs, most of which were unacceptable eg given tartar instead of horseradish. I didn't want any of them.
Totally out of stock and no subs available- cauli, sprouts, green beans, cranberry sauce etc....... No staples available.
Fortunately we had already bought meat from elsewhere, but there was a lady in tears because none of the things she had ordered for Christmas dinner were not available, so the things I mentioned but also all her meat, pigs, stuffing etc.
Or order brought out at about 15.15.
Worker was very polite and apologetic but said because of the queues he couldn't deal with any subs returns and asked me to take everything and apply online. WTF!
4 supermarkets later we managed to buy the veg etc we needed. No cranberry sauce anywhere but bless Lidl, they had fresh cranberries and I've just made my own, a job I didn't really have time to do.
Adding insult to injury, having looked at my groceries I have now found that a few are use by Dec 24th. Unacceptable service
Get your act together! If people pre order this means you know what stocks you need.
Never again and my order was for about £300.

Its not a pre order, why does this come up every year. Doesn't matter when you placed your order, it gets picked the morning of your collection and they can only pick what is in the store

mamma65432 · 23/12/2023 22:25

I had an Asda click and collect order yesterday, they told me that usually they have 25 orders a day picked up and yesterday they had 240.

beststo · 23/12/2023 22:26

Honestly I think people are a bit stupid to use home deliveries and click and collect at this time of year so close to Christmas and not expect issues and lots of stuff missing. Ordering it online doesn't mean that stock is reserved for you, they literally walk around and collect it off the shop floor. If the people in the stores buy it first what are they meant to do.

Neiiighbour234 · 23/12/2023 22:28

I did an Asda C&C yesterday, some genius had plonked two 4kg bags of potatoes on top of my 2 loaves of bread. It was such a stupid thing to do, I actually wondered if they had done it deliberately - like, who does that?!!

Alwayswonderedwhy · 23/12/2023 22:30

Unless you're physically unable to go shopping, c&c just before Christmas is a really bad idea.

TerrysNeapolitan · 23/12/2023 22:31

Can I make a suggestion everyone for next year? It happens like this: you rock up to the supermarket, grab a trolley, go around the store, and take a list with you - that helps, and get everything on the list and put it in the trolley. Then go to what is called a checkout - and you pay for the items - I hasten to add the items are all selected by YOU and pre-approved by YOU - and then you pay and leave with all the purchases that YOU need and are HAPPY with. Then you take it all home. Was very popular in the 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s, 00s,10s............just a suggestion. And less stress......

AboutYouTalk · 23/12/2023 22:32

We order an online shop every week normally but don’t bother for the 2 weeks at Christmas or New Year for this reason. Go in person if you can and you pick up everything. Asda don’t have the items online yet do instore, I used to think online shopping was picked from instore but it clearly isn’t.

1daughterand3sons · 23/12/2023 22:34

I didn't bother ordering this year. Every year I've ordered things are missing and I end up going out anyway so this year I just went to buy everything today and got everything I needed in Aldi and a couple of things in Iceland.
Aldi had lots of stock
Our local Asda is only a small one so I knew there would be no point going there for anything they struggle with stock all year.

How snide.

I don't use click & collect myself, Christmas or otherwise, because I added it up and I was spending more by the time I added in the time to go to the shop for items missed or substituted.

But people are aware how shopping works. For various reasons, they decided to use this service.

No idea why you thought your post was necessary.

Iwant2beJessicaFletcher · 23/12/2023 22:37

I never click and collet or get deliveries anymore as I cant stand the ridiculous subs (I often wonder if kids pick them as they are often nothing at all like what you ordered).

To be honest, our big christmas shop (cooking for 12) has gone really well this year. I got all the meat on Tuesday from Aldi at 7am when they opened so got my pick of everything. Went back this morning at 7am again to get the veg. They were completely fully stocked with everything apart from Cauliflower (which I needed 2 of).

I then went to Morrisons who had hardly any veg at all and the shelves were bare in parts, then went to Asda who again had hardly any veg or fresh produce and again had run out of lots of staples through out the store - hardly any alcohol too.

Then headed to Waitrose who luckily did have cauliflower.

I was genuinely shocked at how poor Asda & Morrisons were - so many empty shelves especially compared to Aldi which was full and Waitrose too. Im not sure why they have both struggled so much this christmas - they knew it was coming and still didnt have enough food in. Not surprised that Aldi is now one of the big 4 supermarkets in the UK.

Littleguggi · 23/12/2023 22:37

I don't shop at Asda but that's awful OP! I had 1 missing item from Morrisons and that was mozzarella, I had 1 subbed item and that was sliced tiger bread instead of a tiger bloomer. They gave me a free pringles I didn't order!

PlantsFallLikeDominoes · 23/12/2023 22:41

I've done two click and collects this week with Tesco. My subs yesterday was the normal gammon instead of tesco finest and a short date on a veggie thing that they refunded me for. I was very happy not to be bustling around the shop. I also was very lucky in that I realised I needed a foodshop and there was a slot that day! I was very surprised! Asda last year was dire, I'd never use them again.

That’s awful!

I don’t use C&C anymore, and we’re not hosting this Christmas but I went to Tesco at about 7pm to pick up some bits and the shelves were full. Plenty of veg/turkeys etc.

Zanatdy · 23/12/2023 22:43

I’ve heard a few complaining about Asda. Fortunately I only had 1 sub from Tesco but didn’t risk Xmas dinner stuff as I grabbed it all from Morrisons few days ago when I went for a Turkey

This.
If it isn’t on the shelves and you couldn’t get it in store yourself, you won’t get it on your home delivery or c&c.

Coffeesnob11 · 23/12/2023 22:45

I live in a village so.orderedmy turkey from the butchers weeks ago. I queued, whilst the local church members served free tea and sang carols. I got all my meat. We headed to the farm shop and got all the veg bar Brussels. I haven't had to drive or walk round any supermarkets thankfully. I find it unbelievably stressful at any time of year. Im

SoupDragon · 23/12/2023 22:49

Threads like this are why I would never do a Christmas online order any more. There seem to be stressful issues every year. I think the only supermarket I'd risk it with is Ocado (and have done in the distant past). It seems to get worse every year.

I'm lucky - I can get to the supermarket easily in the week and don't have small children in tow any more.

Standing in a 2 hour queue with a little kid last year wasn't stress free.

This year partly due to when Christmas Day is and that I was able to delegate half the food shopping to DP it has been a lot easier.

Shodan · 23/12/2023 22:51

I did a click and collect for the first time ever this year- with Morrisons. Admittedly not a huge order, but it did include the turkey and pigs in blankets.

I was pleasantly surprised- it all went very smoothly and I only one had one substitution - the trifle I ordered had been replaced with the posher version!

I did have to go into the shop as I needed a few things not on the pre-order and the shelves were full and I got everything I needed.

I don't know if I'd do it again- I usually do the shop in person and this was something of an experiment- but I was happy with the experience.

Russooooo · 23/12/2023 22:52

I had the opposite in Morrisons yesterday.

No queue, only two (sensible) subs, and a random extra bottle of Sancerre that they let me keep with a cheery “Merry Christmas!”

Our Morrisons delivery today was spot. Nipped in to Asda for bits we'd forgotten to order. Empty or messy shelves, long queues. Rubbish. Went over to Morrisons, we'll stocked, got everything we needed and no massive queues at the tills. Won't bother with asda again. Was recently told by an employee that they were cost cutting and just not employing enough staff to do the work, seems true based on experience in store!

HardHeartedHarbingerofHaggis · 23/12/2023 22:58

Spot on!
