I've got 221b Baker St for us. Not sure the girls will engage as dd1 eye rolled me yesterday when I mentioned it but I fancied something to do together otherwise it's a bit like 4 moochy Sundays in a row 🤷‍♀️

Herd mentality here and a few others similar that I have wrapped and can't remember ha ha

SugarCookieMonster · 23/12/2023 17:52

I had that last year! DH and I enjoyed it but it takes a lot of attention to detail, note taking and a bit of strategy so maybe something to consider if DC are younger teens.

DS is 5 so I think pop up pirate or snakes and ladders might be our limit! After he goes to bed DH and I will either attempt 221b again or crack open the Trivial Pursuit board.

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 23/12/2023 17:52

We will decide on the day! There will be 10 of us and sometimes there are two different games going on at the same time, depending on who wants to play what.

Favourites are often Azul, Ticket to Ride, Mah Jong, card games, Ingenious, Kingdomino, Articulate. Plus dsis normally brings some others.

Givemestrengthorvodka · 23/12/2023 17:53

Ticket to Ride is a great game, and Codenames

AudiobookListener · 23/12/2023 17:53

We've got the Cities of Splendor expansion set saved for Xmas Day.

imnotwhoyouthinkiam · 23/12/2023 17:54

Probably Secret Hitler because it's our absolute favourite. I have no idea other than that. I probably should check what other people want me to take (I own most of the games but my mum is hosting)

AtLeastThreeDrinks · 23/12/2023 18:04

We’ve bought Cooperate (by the people who make Articulate) and my mum usually does a themed quiz. Last year the winner got a bottle of champagne so it’s definitely worth partaking!

lucysmam · 23/12/2023 18:05

@SugarCookieMonster thanks for that, dd2 is days off being 14 so maybe we'll play as teams instead of singles & see how she goes on.

We have Monster High Uno (🙄) and a deck of cards but not much else - apart from chess...the girls play chess together & confuse me!

Any cheap ones I might be able to pick up tomorrow? (we're off for our annual walk into town even though a lot of it will be shut)

Just me and DH on Christmas Day so maybe Ticket to Ride as we love that, or the new Puzmat (home 'escape room' type thing, we've done another from the same range and loved it)

CwmYoy · 23/12/2023 18:07

Ticket to Ride

sprigatito · 23/12/2023 18:08

I've bought the Christmas version of Articulate, and we will probably play Scrabble, Atmosfear, a couple of different Harry Potter games, Pandemic and The Arkham Horror at some point.

MoreHairyThanScary · 23/12/2023 18:10

We like 221b Baker Street,

We have a murder mystery planned for tomorrow ( I wanted a new tradition, so will see if this works - kids are older teens)

May well go old school with trivial pursuit, we have accumulated lots of games so will see on the day!

JustOneMoreBaileys · 23/12/2023 18:16

Triv.

Always and forever.

FourChimneys · 23/12/2023 18:17

Ticket to Ride, Monopoly and Scrabble are the favourites here. We had 221b years ago, not sure where it is.

House rule for Scrabble is that if played during the 12 days of Christmas you get an extra 5 points for a Christmassy word.

lucysmam · 23/12/2023 18:22

@sprigatito I remember Atmosfear - my dad bought it one year (probably not the same as it is now mind you - it had a video 🤣). We didn't get past the start as it scared my younger sister!

You've totally reminded me of this! We could only play at my friends house in day light

MessyNDepressy · 23/12/2023 18:25

I got my niece Bugs in the Kitchen so we’ll play that and I got DS12 Throw Throw Burrito which looks like good fun.

Itsbeginningtolookalotlike · 23/12/2023 18:25

We like 221b baker Street but we play with two dice because otherwise it does seem to go on a while.
This year we have herd mentality and poetry for neanderthals.

lucysmam · 23/12/2023 18:26

@Beckafett you got further than we did 🤣

I half wish I'd asked earlier now - he may still have it in his loft amongst other artefacts & he could have brought it with him. I'll ask before my birthday next month! I'm sure I could acquire a video player for a short while, from somewhere (a particular colleague springs to mind!).

CormorantStrikesBack · 23/12/2023 18:28

Skyjo. Really love this.

TheChosenTwo · 23/12/2023 18:31

I had Atmosphere with the video too, it used to scare me 😂
OP good luck with your Baker Street game, I bought it for dd2 a couple of christmases ago and we gave it away shortly after, both of us having totally failed to understand it completely!
We have herd mentality for Christmas Day along with the new version of six second scribbles which all my kids (including the adult ones) will be excited about as we loved the first one. Then the family version of cards against humanity which is great fun.

anxiousnanna · 23/12/2023 18:34

we dont play board games... its an adult household and monopoly is banned as too many people in the household cheat!

but we do play uno, exploding kittens and avocado smash! to be fair, we get together every couple of months for a games night.. we have so much fun

RubyWinehouse · 23/12/2023 18:34

Cards against humanity (not a board game, but we'll be playing it)

piano789 · 23/12/2023 18:35

We have who wants to be a millionaire to play. I also remember atmosphere with the video. We did complete it but it was very scary😂

SunsetGirl · 23/12/2023 18:41

I've brought Uno, Exploding Kittens, sushi Go, Zombie Kids, Cora Quest, and Carcassonne for adults+ two 9s and one 13. Kids also all have a pack of Similio under the tree.
