I've got 221b Baker St for us. Not sure the girls will engage as dd1 eye rolled me yesterday when I mentioned it but I fancied something to do together otherwise it's a bit like 4 moochy Sundays in a row 🤷‍♀️

Cranium. Is ticket to ride easy? DD was given it and we haven’t even opened it!

Justhereforthechristmasthreads · 23/12/2023 18:42

I bought cheap versions of hungry hippos and kerplunk for christmas day. All adults. Just simple fun

CuntRYMusicStar · 23/12/2023 18:46

We have Skyjo, a new monopoly version, labyrinth, taco cat goat cheese pizza and up. Also have an Agatha Christie cluedo type game. Can't wait!

Ds is currently setting up jenga.

Africa2go · 23/12/2023 18:55

Ticket to Ride. We have about 6 different versions (Africa, US, Asia, England as well as the original) we love it (18yrs & 14yrs but I think we started playing about 2 years ago - 14yr old regularly wins so @Beginningless it's a bit tricky the first time you play but you soon get the hang of it). Usually takes about an hour which is perfect timing.

Herd mentality!

Marylou62 · 23/12/2023 19:40

Who knows where..
As a family we've covered most of the world (DH & 2DSs were /are in the navy.. I've nannied around the world and DD taught English riding in the USA for a while)
It's a great game if you have good geographic knowledge..
Both DSs are very competitive about the bits of the world they've been too..but DH trumps us all!

And Train Game as my family call it...the fun/rows we've had playing this!

Thanks @Africa2go. Mine are only 5 and 8 - could the 8yr old play? I think I looked at it and relegated it to too complicated instinctively but maybe I’ll get it out for the adults at least!

Yes it is, and fun!

We'll be playing Alhambra and Scythe (DS is 15)

Isthiscorrect · 23/12/2023 20:17

We've got The Train Game, love scrabble (will
Introduce the 5 extra points rule for Christmassy words), Mexican Train and definitely no Monopoly (too much cheating) and no Trivial Pursuit (we have the original questions) as DS (age 28) says they were from before he was born 🤦‍♀️
Loving the sound of some of these games.

SummerSazz · 23/12/2023 20:44

Kids have requested codenames and rummikub.

timtam23 · 23/12/2023 21:33

Aldi have Big Potato board games in their Specialbuys centre aisle at the moment - a few pounds cheaper than the standard price. I picked up Shoot for the Stars yesterday, was hoping for Herd Mentality but it had sold out.
We will also probably play the Pointless board game (instigated by me because I enjoy watching Pointless) and although not strictly a board game I have got Pass the Bomb for the DCs as they had such fun playing it at a relative's house earlier this year

skippy67 · 23/12/2023 22:38

Secret Hitler. Articulate.

The first time we played it we did a few quick practice turns with the instructions on hand, once you get the hang of it though it's easy.

Different versions might be quicker to pick up, ours (Scandinavian version) has tunnels and ferries that have slightly different rules but not sure if others are simpler.

housethatbuiltme · 23/12/2023 23:58

We have a 2, 5 and 15 year old... going with Ker-plunk this year. I think my 2 year old will like pulling the straws.

Jenga was surprisingly successful last year, my 1 year old was quite gentle removing the blocks (but she loves 'fine motor' play like threading beads etc...).

Did pass the parcel one year, think I did frustration and Othello with my oldest before the younger 2 where born... I can't really remember the rest that we have done.

FutureDays · 24/12/2023 00:32

the kids are getting into games which is good, the kids current favourites are happy salmon, triggle, active snap, uno, pop up pirate and the screwball scramble card game so I’m expecting them to be in the mix on Monday

Giggorata · 24/12/2023 00:39

We still have Balderdash, which won't do once the DGC are old enough to play games.

TheMotherSide · 24/12/2023 00:49

Chinese Chequers, Genius Square, Yahtzee, Bird Bingo, Cobra Paw and Code Breaker (like a junior Mastermind). A couple of these don't strictly centre around a board, but are still fun family games.

onwardandupwards · 24/12/2023 01:20

My dizzy dinosaur game I was given over 30 years ago, it comes out every Christmas, my eldest loves playing it with me!

Floralnomad · 24/12/2023 01:24

Disney villain cluedo apparently .

Dorriethelittlewitch · 24/12/2023 02:24

Dc1 has requested Cluedo and both versions of Ghost Castle (1980s and current).
Dc2 wants to play My First Carcassonne and Ghost Train ticket to Ride.
My mum wants to play Orchard's three little pigs because we've played it every year since my dad died.
I want to play Carcassonne or Fog over Carcassonne.

lucysmam · 24/12/2023 11:59

I have just remembered about the Cards Against Humanity that I downloaded during lockdown! I never got round to printing it but think I might today since we're pretty much ready & done.

Usually teams for Trivial but this year my niece has bought The Traitors board game

VivienneDelacroix · 24/12/2023 12:09

Teenager recently got the Taskmaster board game and it is much better than I expected -really good fun. There are 10 episodes in the game, we played one yesterday snd will continue to play one day until we get bored!

GonnaBeYoniThisChristmas · 24/12/2023 12:14

Yahtzee for a quick and simple game when you’re actually concentrating more on the chat and snacks!

221b or Catan when you want to be absorbed in the game.

Trivial Pursuit for any time / age. We have adult and children’s questions so lots of different age groups / knowledge range can play.
